2. Background
COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the world at an alarming rate, taking lives
of the most vulnerable and wreaking havoc on global economy. As of March 25, 2020, a
cumulative total of 375,498 confirmed cases and 16,362 confirmed deaths were reported in
196 countries. Although much remains unknown about the novel strain of coronavirus,
SARS-CoV-2, spread is believed generally to occur from person to person via respiratory
droplets from close contact with a person infected with the virus. Fever, among many other
symptoms, is a key epidemiological feature of infections by this novel virus.
The breakneck rate of disease spread, coupled with the fact that there are currently no
COVID-19 vaccines and no recognized treatments, has caused response efforts to the
coronavirus to transition from containment to mitigation strategies to reduce the public’s risk
of contracting the virus, including mandatory self-quarantine in hotspot clusters, state-wide
lockdowns and encouraging shelter-in-place and working from home.

Compared with the traditional hand-held thermometer, Rokid T1 glasses allows for
measuring from a distance at about 3.3 feet away. There is never a risk of cross infection
using T1 as it does not make any physical contact with the person.
