 We will discuss the work of the Holy Spirit in the Old
Testament times.
 Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
 The promise of the Father to send His Holy Spirit.
 The promise of Jesus of sending the Holy Spirit for us
believers.

 Exodus 4:21
 Good News Translation (GNT)
 21 Again the LORD said to Moses, “Now that you are
going back to Egypt, be sure to perform before the king
all the miracles which I have given you the power to
do. But I will make the king stubborn, and he will not
let the people go.

Numbers 11:16-17 (NKJV)
 The Seventy Elders
 16 So the LORD said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy
men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the
elders of the people and officers over them; bring them
to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there
with you. 17 Then I will come down and talk with you
there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and
will put the same upon them; and they shall bear
the burden of the people with you, that you may not
bear it yourself alone.

 Isaiah 59:21

Othniel the first Judge of Israel

you, that the Spirit of the LORD will carry you to a

The promise of Jesus
 John 14:17
 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot
receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will
be in you.

The double promise.
 Acts 2:38-39
 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of
you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to
your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as
the Lord our God will call.”

The doings of the Holy Spirit
 John 14:26
 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in My name, He will teach you all things, and
bring to your remembrance all things that I said to
you.

 John 16:13
 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He
will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak
on His own authority, but whatever He hears He
will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

 Romans 8:9
 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed
the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does
not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Jesus promise to send
the Father’s promise.

 John 15:26
 The Coming Rejection
 26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to
you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds
from the Father, He will testify of Me.

Why we need the Holy Spirit?
 Jesus promised to send another advocate, one like
Him, a comforter.
 He teaches us and reveals treasures of
Scripture, He direct us the way to go.
 He assures us that we belong to God (Seal of HS).
 He works in us so we become more Christ-like.
 He equips us for service, gives us His gifts and
empower us.
 Jesus needed Him, so we do.

 Ephesians 4:30
 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom
you were sealed for the day of redemption.

 Luke 1:35
 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy
Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the
Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that
Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of
God.

 1 Corinthians 2:10
 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.
For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep
things of God.

 1 Corinthians 12:11
 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things,
distributing to each one individually as He wills.

 John 20:21-23
 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the
Father has sent Me, I also send you.”22 And when He
had said this, He breathed on them, and said to
them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the

 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you
another Helper, that He may abide with you

 2 Peter 1:21
 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy
men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy
Spirit.

baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from

 2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were

sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues,

were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to

 The Macedonian Call
 6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the
region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy
Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

 Titus 3:5
 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to His mercy He saved us, through the
washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy
Spirit,

 Ephesians 5:18
 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is
dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

 Acts 6:8
 Stephen Accused of Blasphemy
 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great
wonders and signs among the people.

 Acts 7:55-56
 55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven
and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the
right hand of God, 56 and said, “Look! I see the
heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the
right hand of God!”

 59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling
on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my
spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud
voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And
when he had said this, he fell asleep.

 Do you believe the Holy Spirit is in you?
 Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit?
 Do you feel when he comes upon you?
 Are you aware of the abilities, talents, gifting and skills
that the Holy Spirit has put in you?
 What do you thing is your strength with the Holy
Spirit?
 Where do you Think you need more of his power?
 Are you hungry for him?

 Next week we won’t meet, but I strongly encourage you
to come at least for an evening to our Conference.

different from the one we have in our Sunday Services.
