Rural Operational Delivery Manager Cambridge 2004-2014
Main Responsibilities
Managed a £4.2m budget, with a team of 185 employees in a busy and highly
unionised working environment.
Overseeing all key areas of the business scorecard, including; budget, duty
coverage, health and safety and recruitment and training.
Overall responsibility for a fleet of 30 vehicles, including legal compliance.
Analysis of budget data to ensure cost effective and robust planning of duties.
Ensuring capacity and capability are continually planned, particularly during peak
times.
Quality of Service KPIs. Effective management of all premium products against
business target, ensuring customer expectations were met.
World Class Mail – involved in introduction of standards of performance using a
range of approaches.
Overseeing mail despatch to schedule to meet Service Level Agreement between
functions.
Encouraging, identifying and developing best practice strategy.
Working closely with the Financial manager, Quality of Service team, Health and
Safety Lead and HR.
Key Achievements
Over achieved budget target (£4.2m budget), including 5% stretch target
Key player in the successful implementation of a new HR system (People System
Portal) the largest migration to a HR programme in Europe. This included Initiating
and delivering both group training and 1-1 coaching sessions.
2. Recognised gap in driver training. Initiated and introduced new driver training
modules, which included the legalities of driving, required vehicle safety checks and
security processes.
Planned and implemented training for all staff in the use of new hand held digital
devices within a very tight timescale and limited budget to undertake the task.
Implemented cost reduction plan ahead of National agreement with the trade union.
Resulting in structured duty change, resulting in a 400 hours per week saving
(£312k).
