Since 1992, more than 1.9 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight from EAA’s network of volunteer pilots. For many, it was the start of their journey to becoming a pilot, aircraft mechanic, air traffic controller, or many other career possibilities. Join EAA Chapter 846, on June 13, 2015 for Young Eagles Day.
2. Young Eagles
a program of the
Experimental Aircraft Association
An international aviation membership organization
founded in 1953 and headquartered in Oshkosh, WI
1,000 Chapters and 180,000 members worldwide
Members are aviation enthusiasts of every age group
Primary emphasis is Sport Aviation
Homebuilt aircraft, antiques, warbirds, aerobatic aircraft,
ultralights, helicopters and contemporary manufactured
aircraft
3. Why the Young Eagles Program?
The pilot population has been decreasing since
1980
1980 = 827,000 pilots
2013 = 617,000 pilots
While the U.S. population has been increasing
1980 = 227 Million
2013 = 320 Million
And the cost to fly has continued to increase.
Fewer young people get a chance to experience
flight.
4. EAA Young Eagles Program
Developed in 1992 to welcome
young people into aviation
Allows participants to actually
experience flight in a hands-
on setting
Shows the excitement of
aviation
Teaches that aviation is vital
to our nation’s future
5. EAA Young Eagles Program
