Intermediate -Design is Everywhere- Lesson w- RationaleAnna Murray
This lesson plan aims to teach intermediate English learners about design through examining flags. It begins with warming students up to the topic of design and having them describe well and poorly designed objects. Students then read about what design is and practice describing designs. They learn adjectives to describe flags and are introduced to flags from around the world. Students then listen to a TED Talk about flag design and identify the speaker's main points. Finally, they work in groups to design a flag for New York City using the principles discussed and present it to the class. For homework, students write a paragraph analyzing an existing flag.
In attempting to provide optimal labor analgesia, it is important to weigh the risks against benefits of any particular technique.
This must take in to consideration factors such as the timing of intervention and the place of practice.
Cost, accessibility, and human resources are other considerations.
It inadvisable to use an expensive or complicated technique in rural areas where there is limited medical access.
A properly performed ILA is a very cost effective technique for a pain relief in labour that can be recommneded as an alternative to CSE or epidural analgesia in areas where access to medical care is limited
This document discusses the importance of empathy in design. It recommends designers think like customers by using their own products, being a customer support representative, and testing assumptions to understand pain points and broken user flows. Designing with empathy means considering people's needs and perspectives rather than ignoring them.

This document summarizes a UX design presentation for startups. The presentation discusses a "minimum delightful product" approach to UX design, compared to fast food or minimum viable products. It presents a UX recipe pyramid with user delight and function at the top. The presentation warns against prioritizing technology over people or business needs. It then outlines a recipe for UX design including workshops to understand users, ideation, prototyping, validation, backlogs, and quality assurance. The goal is to satisfy users like a home-cooked meal rather than just getting the job done.
Anaesthesia for patient with anticoagulantAnaestHSNZ
This document discusses guidelines for managing patients on anticoagulant therapy who require surgery. It is important to balance the risk of thromboembolic events from stopping anticoagulants against the risk of bleeding from continued anticoagulation. Factors like the urgency and type of surgery, the indication for anticoagulation and the patient's risk profile are considered. Bridging with low molecular weight heparin may be used when anticoagulants need to be stopped temporarily to reduce thromboembolic risk. Regional anesthesia can be used cautiously in anticoagulated patients when benefits outweigh bleeding risks.

Dr. Birgit Lutzer 1
Dr. Vladimir Purghart hat sich kürzlich in
Teufen AR unter dem Firmennamen «Pur-
ghart Analytics» selbstständig gemacht.
Für die Bestimmung der Bestandteile von
Materialien nutzt er neben dem Einsatz
instrumenteller Kunststoffanalyseverfah-
ren bei bestimmten Aufträgen einen klei-
nen, komplett ausgestatteten Laborkoffer.
Das Equipment lässt sich mit wenigen
Handgriffen aus- und einpacken. Purg-
hart: «Damit ich Analysen unabhängig
von den Gegebenheiten vor Ort sofort
durchführen kann, habe ich mir den Ro-
minger-Laborkoffer zugelegt.» Er fügt hin-
zu, apparative Analysen böten zwar ge-
nauere Ergebnisse, aber wenn es schnell
gehen müsse, sei der Laborkoffer mit
maximal 12 Minuten pro Analyse un-
schlagbar. «Ausserdem reicht vielen Kun-
anschliessend sofort Massnahmen etwa
für die Verbesserung eines Produktes er-
greifen. «Oft werden Analysen auch
durchgeführt, um zu erfahren, was genau
hinter oder in Konkurrenzerzeugnissen
steckt», schliesst Purghart.
Auch zum Lehren
und Lernen geeignet
Neben «Industriedetektiven» wie Purghart
setzen Schulen, Universitäten und Fir-
men den Koffer zu Ausbildungszwecken
ein. Speziell im Fach «Chemie» werden
hochkomplexe Inhalte oft auf abstrakter
Ebene vermittelt. Der Laborkoffer eignet
sich deshalb gut, den Lernenden einen
anderen Zugang zur Materie zu verschaf-
fen.
Das Prinzip, sich anspruchsvolle Inhalte
durch aktives Umsetzen anzueignen, ent-
spricht neuen erziehungswissenschaftli-
chen Ansätzen wie der Ermöglichungsdi-
daktik sowie aktuellen Erkenntnissen der
Kognitionsforschung. Auch Dr. Johannes
Hoffner, Fachvorstand Abteilung Chemie
vom Schweizer Gymnasium Liestal wen-
det den Laborkoffer in seinem Unterricht
an. Er berichtet: «Die hohe Unterschei-
dungsfähigkeit ohne Zuhilfenahme von
instrumenteller Analytik bringt den Schü-
lern die Chemie der Kunststoffe näher. Er
fügt hinzu: »Sie finden dieses Praktikum
spannend, da es für sie eine unmittelbar
einsichtige Bedeutung hat.»
Der Koffer im Arbeitsalltag
Die Semadeni Plastics Group mit Sitz in
Ostermundigen (CH) setzt den Laborkof-
fer überwiegend in der täglichen Produkti-
on ein. Das Unternehmen hat sich auf die
Entwicklung, Fertigung und den Vertrieb
von Produkten aus Kunststoff speziali-
siert. Hinzu kommen kunststoffbezoge-
ne Dienstleistungen. Geschäftsführer
Patrick Semadeni verrät: «Sowohl Berufs-
einsteiger als auch erfahrene Mitarbeiter
verschiedener Unternehmenssparten sind
von dem Laborkoffer begeistert.» Martin
Bollmann, Leiter Qualitätssicherung
Spritzwerk, ergänzt: «Der Koffer wird bei
uns von der Qualitätssicherung für die
gesamte Abteilung Spritzwerk verwendet.
Hauptsächlich werden Kunststoffteile
möglicher neuer Projekte beurteilt, um
diese dann einer Kunststofffamilie mög-
lichst genau zuzuordnen.» Der Laborkof-
fer komme aber auch zur Anwendung bei
der Materialbestimmung im Alltag. Er
schildert ein Praxisbeispiel: «Es ging um
PP-Granulat, welches in der Herstellung
bei einem Granulatproduzenten mit PE
vermischt wurde.» Es sei keine genaue
Materialbestimmung mehr möglich ge-
wesen, was den Schluss zuliess, «dass
das angelieferte Lot für uns nicht verar-
beitbar ist.»
