1. PRECIS OF SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Lana has developed a very busy consultancy business following twenty five years experience in the
community services sector in a variety of roles with Federal, State and Local Government. Her areas
of expertise include child protection, parenting services, foster care and adoption, alcohol and drug
use, services for women, regional and community development as well as youth and recreation
services.
A qualified secondary teacher, Lana has substantial project and staff management experience as
well as teaching/training expertise and event management skills.
Examples of project research:
Surveyed all Australian and New Zealand paediatric palliative care services to gather
information on their service delivery models and achieved a 100% response rate
Examples of project management expertise:
Developed Geraldton Lotteries House over a period of three years which included on-going
liaison with a 12 not-for-profit agencies, oversight of building refurbishment and establishment
of governance systems
Developed a Regional Women’s Health service with Federal Government funding awarded on
the basis of a research project undertaken in partnership with the Nursing Practice Research
Unit of Curtin University
Examples of event management skills:
Organised a public launch for a ten minute promotional video on the Midwest region that
attracted over 1000 people to Queen’s Park Theatre in Geraldton
Planned, promoted and co-ordinated the delivery of two one-day forums in Perth on Family
Group Conferencing that featured a team of international guest speakers and attracted
approximately 500 participants
Conceptualised and organised the inaugural “Lost Children’s Services” across six sites at
Perth’s Skyshow

Managed the community consultation processes of a formative study with the Town of Victoria
Park that included the facilitation of focus groups and the development and collation of an on-
line survey
Managed a region-wide consultation process in the Midwest of WA focusing on women’s health
issues that included an extensive postal survey in collaboration with the Nursing Practice
Research Unit of Curtin University
Managed a project on behalf of the Australian Red Cross focused on the needs of children and
young people with life limiting illnesses that involved expert interviews, on-line surveys and
facilitated focus groups

Strategies to develop the framework include expert

2012 Kalparrin Exploration of $10K project awarded on the basis of a quote
outreach Funding from the Princess Margaret Hospital
services to the Foundation enabled Kalparrin to explore the
Goldfields development of a model for the provision or
region regional services. This project involved community
engagement by utilising the media and local
service providers, expert interviews, focus groups
and on-line surveys. The resulting report included
draft budgets, data analysis and recommendations.

3. 2012 West Community $40K project awarded on the basis of an
Australian Outreach and interview and quote.
Symphony Engagement Orchestras around the world are exploring their
Orchestra Project relevance to communities and as a consequence
are engaging in an exciting array of community-
based activities. This project involved the detailed
exploration of a number of community-engagement
initiatives and included extensive desk-top research
and expert interviews with both the Arts and non-
Arts sectors.
2011 University of Community-use $30K project awarded on the basis of a quote.
WA feasibility study The study was focused on determining community
(current) interest and potential engagement with the New
Fortune Theatre at UWA. This outdoor
Shakespearean theatre was in need of
considerable refurbishment. Consultations were
undertaken with existing and emerging theatre,
music, dance and other performance groups to
determine strategies to increase interest and
utilisation of the theatre.
2011 Department for Service Review $50K project won through competitive tender
Child process
Protection A review of DCP’s Parent Support Program was
undertaken in collaboration with two other
consultants and involved the development,
distribution and analysis of extensive electronic
surveys, desk-top case reviews and focus group
consultations either face-to-face or by
teleconference. A comprehensive report with
considerations for future direction was presented at
the conclusion of the review.
2011 Health Service Review $25K project awarded on the basis of a quote.
Department of Undertook a review of the Paediatric Palliative Care
WA (PPC) service within Princess Margaret Hospital
which involved consultation (via survey) with
children and families, medical specialists and
community-based service providers. The review
also involved consultation (via survey) with the
service heads of interstate and international PPC
service providers.
2010/11 Australian Red Research and $50K project awarded on the basis of a quote.
Cross Consultation Developed a model for the provision of respite and
other support services to families of children with
life-threatening illnesses. This project involved
consultations with community-based agency CEOs,
medical specialists, Director Generals and other
senior public servants. It also involved the
organisation of a well attended sector forum.
Consultations were undertaken with families via
surveys and focus groups. The project concluded
with the development of a service delivery model
that was written up in a comprehensive final report.

Family Centre Procedure Updated and further developed an existing policy
Manual and procedure manual ensuring legislative
compliance and user friendly format. This involved
detailed consultation with Board Members and staff
and writing tasks with a focus on accurate detail.

WA Training Developed five parenting modules for a volunteer
Sessions training program complete with workbook, power
point presentations and presenters notes. This
involved desktop research and face-to face
consultation with key stakeholders followed up by
detailed writing and program development.

Developed both site and management models with
a focus on community use of a five hectare site that
included three historic buildings. Consultation
strategies included facilitated focus groups, an on-
line survey, and desk-top research.
