Digital data is represented as variations in the amplitude of a carrier wave in amplitude-shift keying (ASK), a type of modulation.
In an ASK system, a symbol, representing one or more bits, is sent by transmitting a fixed-amplitude carrier wave at a fixed frequency for a specific time duration.
A simple form of ASK modulation is considered that amplitude modulates a carrier based on a direct mapping of the source data bits to the waveform symbol. The most rudimentary form of ASK is given the special name On–Off Keying (OOK) modulation.

INTRODUCTION •Amplitude-shift keying (ASK) is a form of modulation that represents digital data as variations in the amplitude of a carrier wave. •The amplitude of an analog carrier signal varies in accordance with the bit stream (modulating signal), keeping frequency and phase constant. •The level of amplitude can be used to represent binary logic 0s and 1s.
  4. 4. MODULATION • Generate carrier signal. • Start FOR loop • Generate binary data, message signal(on-off form) • Generate ASK modulated signal. • Plot message signal and ASK modulated signal. • End FOR loop. • Plot the binary data and carrier.
  5. 5. DEMODULATION • Perform correlation of ASK signal with carrier to get decision variable. • Make decision to get demodulated binary data. If x>0, choose ‘1’ else choose ‘0’ • Plot the demodulated binary data. • Some sort of decision-making circuitry to get the bit stream back.

ADVANTAGES • It can be used to transmit digital data over optical fiber. • The receiver and transmitter have a simple design which also makes it comparatively inexpensive. • It uses lesser bandwidth as compared to FSK thus it offers high bandwidth efficiency. • The wave generated is quite simple to detect and generate
