LinkedIn News Editor Visits Martin Luther King Library
SAN JOSE, CA- On October 1, 2015, Room 225 on the 2nd
floor of the Martin Luther King
Library welcomed Maya Pope-Chappell to give advice to students on how to improve their
LinkedIn profile by showcasing their work to employers. She was hosting the event and
instructed the students on the materiel that they should write and the tips on how to stand out on
social media if they want to be on the correct path to success.
Maya Pope-Chappell writes news articles to help undergraduates and college graduates
with advice on how to boost their chances in the professional world. A tip that she told everyone
in the room is that whenever an individual writes a post that has between 500 and 2,000 words, it
would work well in the eyes of many employers who are searching for new interns or employees.
Students should also include their personal perspective on certain topics so that the employers
will be impressed on the applicants’ knowledge or intelligence.
Pope-Chappell also stated that having a social media presence, Twitter, Facebook, etc.,
will lead an individual to have a greater chance of getting hired by a higher-rated company.
Adding in material that one has completed at work or school (such as news article or a research
paper) can also be another way to boost job prospects. The event was very inspiring and
informative to a lot of students and there might be another LinkedIn event planned for the future.
