Why we’re doing this
process?
• Working with local communities will lead to
services that better meet people's needs
• community engagement in itself can lead to
improved self-confidence, self-esteem, social
networks and social support.
5. www.kingston.gov.uk
Good practice
• Ensure communities, voluntary sector &
statutory services work together to plan,
design, develop, deliver and evaluate
initiatives
• Building relationships takes time
• Reflect the diversity of the community
• Make it as easy as possible for people to get
involved
• Feed back the results to the local communities

Why we’re doing this
process?
• The 5 year forward view for mental health.
February 2016 suggests that local communities
develop Mental Health Prevention plans based
on local need, and that there is co-production
to ensure services are accessible and
appropriate for people of all backgrounds

What might the strategy
cover?
• The 5 year forward view for mental health.
February 2016:
“Over 20,000 people told the taskforce about
changes they wanted to see .... their priorities
were:
1)Prevention 2) Access 3) Integration of physical
and mental health 4) Quality and 5) A positive
experience of care.”

How can you support
this process?
1. What are the needs of the people who use
your services?
2. How can you help the people who use your
services to get involved in the co-production
process? 3. And the planning, design,
development, delivery and evaluation of
Kingston’s mental health strategy?
Hinweis der Redaktion
Best practice recommends that best services are designed together with all the
communities that might use them.
There have been some events so far but not everyone can attend these so we are
trying to attend different community groups at different venues, places and times
more convenient for them.
3. NICE. 1.2 p7-8 – we are trying to follow the best practice recommended in NICE.
4. One of these is to take on asset-based approach which we have done.
5. We have learnt – need to repeat the process to explain. Lots of people expect visit
to go straight into writing the strategy. Too long for …………….
6. So if you want to get involved it is not too late.
We haven’t written anything yet but we are taking a broad view. An indication of the sorts of things we are likely to include is in the 5 year forward view for mental health. February 2016.
