PCNs are not
just GPs
GPs are PCN
core members
BUT
3. Š 2020 PCC
1) Core GP member practices to engage with each other
2) Core members to engage with other network partners
3) ALL PCN members to agree a clinical strategy to identify
services to deliver to network patients
4) Creation of PCN estates strategy, supported by the clinical
strategy. Requires understanding of ALL current estate usage,
identification of what will be required to deliver the clinical
strategy and what available estate exists within the PCN
5) Applications for additional space where evidence
supports lack of available space within PCN
PCN development steps
4. Š 2020 PCC
What PCNs need to do
1) Fully understand ALL their existing estate and available
capacity. (Not just GP estate)
2) Consider the impact of potential technological solutions
3) Determine the most appropriate setting for each service
identified by the clinical strategy
4) Identify space free up by digitising patient records
5) Promote flexible / home working for MDT staff
6) Ensure better utilisation of clinical rooms over lunch
and at weekends
5. Š 2020 PCC
We can help PCNs to understand their role in the
development of their estates strategies.

Itâs worth just understanding the steps that practices need to take to create a mature PCN
1 â To develop trust between practices and create the base for a good working relationship between them
2 â via the PCN clinical director, to forge good open relationships with other PCN members
3 â By working jointly with the best interests of the patients at the heart of the decision making process
4 â Agreed by ALL PCN members
5 â From an individual practice on behalf of the PCN. Clear documentation needs to identify PCM core members liability
Assessing current estate, workforce and service provision
Digital solutions and fewer face to face appointments
Based on the service model and care pathway being offered
Consider sharing conference and meeting room facilities to free up space
