4. HISTORY
The Bicol Region is located in the southernmost tip of Luzon
Island, the largest Island in the Philippine Archipelago.
*Bicol region was known as “ Ibalon” various interpreted to
derive from
 “ ibalio” means “to bring to the other side” and
“ ibalon” means “people from the other side or people who
are hospitable and give visitors gift to bring home”
The people are called“ Bicolanos and their language is “
Bikolano”
1569 Gibal-ong a sitio of Maggallanes, Sorsogon where the
spaniards first landed.
The region was also called “Los Camarines” after the huts
found by the Spaniards

2. Holy Cross Parish in Nabua Camarines Sur
- instituted by the Holy order of the Franciscans of the oldest
diocese in the Philippines the Archdiocese of Caceres.

10. Pinagmulan ng salitang Albay:
• Ibal –sentro ng kalakalan / bilihan
• Baybay- tabing dagat
• Alhay- patuyuin ang nilabhan
• Antabay- sandigan para suporta, dahil ang
Albay ay suport ng Luzon. Ang pinakamalaking
bahagi ng lalawigan ay nakasandig sa maalamat
na Bulkang Mayon na kinuha ang pangalan sa
salitang “Magayon” ang ibig sabihin ay
Maganda

11. • Sawagnan- ang unang pangalan ng Albay.
Tinawag itong Albaybay ng gawing isang
bayan noong 1616. Di naglaon itoy naging
Albay. Hinati ito sa dalawang
lalawigan,Albay at Sorsogon.

Main Industries: Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining
Product: Pineapple, jewelry craft, coconut industry

15. • On the northernmost part of the region is the
province of Camarines Norte, holds the distinction
of being the town to erect the first monument of the
county’s national hero, Jose Rizal.
• Camarines Norte derives its name from the Spanish
word
“camarine” means “ rice granary or warehouse”
• Daet Camarines Norte is the Queen of Formosa.

18. Camarines Sur
• Camarines Sur is the largest province in area and
population occupying 5,481.6 km.
• The province derived from “camaronchones” or
“camarines” a Spanish word for “kamalig” mean small
nipa or bamboo made huts.
• Camarines Sur is the home of smallest fish in the world
the dwarf gobby (Pandaka pygmea) measures 1.2 cm
or less than half inch disvovered by American Itchyologist
Albert Herre.

Gimenez first explored the province in 1569.

23. • The province of Catanduanes boast of white
beaches and resort is an Island paradise in
Pacific.
• Catanduanes came from the word “tandu” a
native dick beetle that was abundant
throughout the Island
• “Katanduan” then was the reference made
of his Island
• When the Spaniards came , it was corrupted
from “katanduan to Catanduanes”

24. • Another legends says that the
name actually originated from
the word “ samdong” a tree
that once abounded in the Island
• People consiquently called “
Kasamdong” meaning a place
of many “samdong”

25. • Because of the difficulty of the
Spaniards in pronouncing
words ending in “ng” from “
kasamdongan” it became
“katandungan” wich
gradually metamorphosed to
“ catanduanes”

“Sosogon” meaning “trace the river by
going upstream” . It is the southern
most province in Luzon.
• Sorsogon was discovered in 1569 by a
group Spanish missionaries named
