2. Why meditation?
I’ve been a part-time meditation practitioner for
the last few years. I don’t regularly go to a temple,
or follow the middle-way all the time, or stay
focused and grounded. I know meditation works
because I’ve tried it. It just never seemed to
become part of my daily routine.
3. Why 30-days?
It takes me approximately 30 days to really get used to
any major undertaking I’ve ever tried to do in the past.
•It took about 30 days to quit smoking
•It took 30 days or so for me to get used to regular
exercise
•It usually takes about 30 days for me to get used to a
new job
I know myself. After 30-days, I know meditation will be
deeply ingrained into my psyche. It will be one of my
daily habits by then.
4. What do I hope to
accomplish?
• I want to make meditation a regular part of my daily
routine
•I want to explode forward on my pathway of personal
growth
•I want to be able to channel my mind and behaviors
into activities that will enrich my life
•But, mainly, I just want to see what will happen
5. I’m a Beginner……Kinda
•I’m starting out as a novice that has established a “seat”
and can meditate between 15 and 30 minutes at a time.
•I have been to a temple to meditate, but not regularly
•I have never had a teacher or guru
•I’ve mainly just read books and used them as guidelines
7. Here’s the Plan
1. WEEK 1: FOSTERING A CALM, FOCUSED MIND- I’ll use the books
I’ve read to help get used to regular meditation. I will meditate at
different times of the day to see what works best for me. I’ll also
look for a local meditation group or teacher.
2. WEEK 2: KUNDALINDI AWAKENING- I plan on using exercises I
already know to evaluate, open up, and awaken my chakras. This
will increase my energy and concentration
3. WEEK 3: FOSTERING PEACE AND COMPASSION- With my mind
opened and body energized, I’ll focus on cultivating compassion in
my heart and spreading peace throughout my life
4. WEEK 4: CREATIVE VISUALIZATION- From this place of energized
peace and compassion, I will focus on visualizing the place I’d like
to be at. I want to accentuate the good things I have in my life and
figure out a pathway that I can use to achieve my own personal
goals while helping the most people
8. Here’s the Plan
I will use techniques outlined in several excellent
meditation books:
Week 1: Breath by Breath: The Liberating Practice of Insight
Meditation by Larry Rosenberg
Week 2: Meditation as Medicine: Activate the Power of Your
Natural Healing Force by Dharma Singh Kalsa, M.D. and Cameron
Stauth
Week 3: Creating True Peace: Ending Violence in Yourself, Your
Family, Your Community, and the World by Thich Nhat Hanh
Week 4: Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain
I have already read all four of these books and highly endorse them.
They have all contributed greatly to the way I view myself and the
world.
9. Here’s the Plan
I will also:
• Write about my experiences each week on the Jobs in Ayurveda
website
• Create weekly video diary entries each week and a final one at the
end of the project
• Use different books from different schools of meditation to guide
my weekly focus
• Actively search for a meditation group, school, teacher, or guru in
Tucson (my hometown)
10. This project is dedicated
to help anyone out there
that wants to start
meditating but hasn’t yet.
11. Let me be your guinea pig
See what happens to me after 30 days of
meditation:
