to manipulate symbols. Its principal characteristics
are:
 It responds to a specific set of instructions in a
well-defined manner.
 t can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a
program).
 It can quickly store and retrieve large amounts
of data.

4.  A computer is an electronic machine that
accepts information (DATA), processes it
according to specific instructions, and
provides the results as a new information.

with a central processing unit
(CPU) as a microprocessor.
Designed for individual use, a
microcomputer is smaller than a
mainframe or a minicomputer.

smaller in physical size.

portability. Laptops are usually less

pounds and can be powered by a
battery. It is generally more
expensive than desktops and
netbooks.

A tablet is a wireless touch
screen personal computer
(PC) that is smaller than a
notebook but larger than a
smartphone.
Modern tablets are built with wireless Internet or local area
networks (LAN) and a variety of software applications.

to perform tasks.
 Hardware – a physical devices that make up a
computer system.
