PERSONAL BRANDING RESEARCH PROJECT
OVERVIEW
1. Project Background and Description
There is a lack of literature about the use of a strength focused personal branding approach (SOAR) with military
veterans in transition.
2. Project Scope
The purpose of this study is to expand the knowledge base on practical application of SOAR for OD practitioners.
This study will contribute to the OD knowledge base because there is no research about SOAR coaching with
transitioning veterans. Specifically, I want to find out if a military veteran participating in SOAR coaching as a
branding tool during the transition process will increase their psychological capital. I want to study this because this
will help to show how personal branding has an effect on job transition and enhance the reintegration of the veteran
into the workforce and maximize employment opportunities for this population of the workforce. I anticipate using
quantitative quasi experimental method for this research project. Veterans that are in the process of a job transition
will be part of my research for the quantitative portion.
3. Research Question
Will using personal branding during the transition process increase psychological capital for the military veteran which
can help them find the right job for them?
4. Deliverables
I plan on using two groups a control group and a experimental group, both groups will take the psycap assessment
pre and post intervention, the experimental group will receive the personal branding coaching session in conjunction
to completing the Pathway Planner™ which is an in-depth planning and personal assessment which is used as an
educational and career planning tool to discover which career possibilities best suit the candidate.
5. Implementation Plan
I will use online surveys to measure psycap on two populations: population 1 (Experimental Group)-veterans using
SOAR branding tool as part of job search and population 2 (Control Group)-veterans using normal job search
mechanisms as part of job search.
Experimental group: I will then provide a coaching session utilizing a personal branding workbook and job transition
assessment in order to develop a personal brand for the veteran that focuses on the SOAR framework. I will also
provide the pathway planner which will give the veteran a list of occupations that they are a fit for and provide a link to
onet which the veteran can use in order to provide the verbage to create a job specific personal brand. I will then
measure the veteran’s psycap after they have completed three interviews for jobs that they have used the personal
branding tool.
Control group: These veterans will go through the normal transition process. Once they have completed three
interviews I will measure their psycap.
