Nov/Dec 2015AgeSong University Launches
ReFIT Program
The key to health and recovery is found in the
complete restoration of the person.
In September 2015, AgeSong University
launched the ReFIT program, comprised of
physical, intellectual and spiritual exercises that
are designed to further develop each person.
This program begins each day with a physical
exercise, followed by an intellectual activity.
Because the mind and body are directly linked,
stimulation of the body via exercise leads to
stimulation and increased receptivity in the
mind.
The human soul is the means by which all parts
of a person are unified. The development of
mind and body allow for the strengthening of
the soul. Where a strong soul resides, so does a
good life.
ReFIT is here to equip individuals with the
means to establish a good life for themselves
and their loved ones.
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning
through November 2015, the public is invited
to participate in the ReFIT program with
members of the community.

Beverly, Med Technician
and Lead Care Partner
by Yukio Tomonaga
If you want to know anything
about AgeSong University,
Beverly is the person to ask.
Her job is to oversee community
members, support staff and
volunteers.
The most important part of her
job is to observe what is taking
place on the floor and always be
ready to jump in.
Beverly knows all the
community members and their
stories.
“The great thing about AgeSong
University is how we build this
community together,” Beverly
affirmed.
She continued, “This is my
family! At the end of the day, I
am always thankful for being in
a field where I can give smiles to
the people around me.”

3. AgeSong Elders
Experience Special Kind
of Dance
Sonsheree and Dwayne created a
dance piece around a chair.
While Dwayne sat, Sonsheree
moved over and around him,
until they changed places and he
moved around her. Dwayne has
no use of his legs; he navigates
around in a wheelchair. After the
performance, he and Sonsheree
facilitated a participatory
experience with the audience.
The dance was part of a 5-week
celebration of individuals who
have turned their disability into
a special ability through the
visual and performing arts.

Featured Artist: Jean
by Kathy Barrows
Jean calls herself a “full-time
hippie.” Born in San Jose, she
moved to San Francisco in “the
hippie days” and never left. “I
like the music, everything about
it.” Jean attended concerts of all
the major bands—the Doors,
the Who, Jefferson Airplane
and War.
Jean has another love—art. Her
favorite pastime is to create
abstract art, using watercolors
and markers. “I love art,” she
says, “because it’s fun.” Jean
works fast. She once produced
25 works in a single day. In Art
With Elders (AWE), class, as
soon as she sits down at the
table, she’s ready to go. She also
enjoys talking to other students,
especially to her art buddy,
Danny.
The artwork of Jean, Danny and
our other AgeSong artists was
featured at the 23rd Art with
Elders Show & Celebration,
Sunday, Oct. 18, at Laguna
Honda Hospital’s historic
Gerald Simon Theater.
