2. Poverty
Poverty has always been a major problem, even in our society
today. Millions of people around the world live in poverty
everyday. These people have no means of obtaining basic
necessities, namely, food, potable water and a shelter over
their heads. Several poverty stricken countries include
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Africa, Ethiopia and Cambodia.
3. Welfare Organisations
Today, there are many organisations which seek to aid these
poverty-stricken countries in whatever way possible. An example
of such an organisation is CARE Australia, an Australian charity
and international humanitarian aid organisation fighting
global poverty seeking a world of hope, tolerance and social
justice, and serve individuals and families in the poorest
communities in the world.
4. Aims and ways social entrepreneurs aid
people
A social entrepreneur recognises a social problem throughout
the world and puts together a team to make changes to society
achieve a social change. In terms of poverty, social
Entrepreneurs appeal to the public for financial grants. They put
These funds into reaching out to poverty-stricken countries and
Providing families with basic daily necessities. Social
entrepreneurs show the world how harsh life is for these people
and do their best to help them.
5. Dangers of poverty
• Hunger: Many children in these countries die of malnutrition everyday. As people
do not have the money to purchase food, the children are left to starve.
• Housing: Since the country is in poverty, resources are not focused on maintaining
a good housing system. Therefore, there is poor hygiene in the slums, waste not
properly disposed of, inviting disease-carrying organisms.
• Health: When the dwellings of the people are not maintained properly, diseases
are definitely a major danger. Also, poor governments do not have the funds to
improve healthcare services throughout the country.
6. What normal people can do to
contribute
• Normal people can lend a helping hand by contributing
donations to poverty charities.
• Encourage others to donate to charity
• Join missionary groups to travel to poverty-stricken countries
and provide them with basic necessities.
• Organise fundraising events to raise funds for these countries.
