4. Mattupetty Another place of interest, located about 13 km from Munnar Town, is Mattupetty. Lying at a height of 1700 m above sea level, Mattupetty is known for its storage masonry dam and the beautiful lake, which offers pleasurable boat rides, enabling one to enjoy the surrounding hills and landscape. Situated at a height of 1700 MtsMattupetty is famous for its highly specialised dairy farm, the Indo-swiss live stock project. Over 100 varietes of high yielding cattle are reared here.
5. The Mattupetty lake and dam , just a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful picnic spot. The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are other attractions in the vicinity. DTPC Idukki provides boating facilities on the Mattupetty Dam. 6. Devikulam This tranquil hill destination is located just 7 km from Munnar, almost at a level of 1800 meters from the sea. The most famous spot of Devikulam, the Sita Devi Lake is a worth a visit. It is believed that the lake at Devikulam is the same place where Lord Rama and Goddess Sita had took bath in the waters of the lake, thus consecrating the waters with curative powers. 8. Rajamala A wildlife safari into Rajamala is a great opportunity to come up close with the timorous Tahrs and observe their habits and habitats. It is estimated that the total population of the rare NilgiriTahrs to be over 1300. Since Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary happens to be a chunk of Eravikulam National Park, the visitors are not permitted to explore the entire park. Rajamala is 2695 Mts above sea level. Half the world's population of the rare mountain goat or tahr which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here.TheNiligiritahr in Rajamala are now to be found in small herds found in Eravikulam-Rajamala region.
