How can a thermostat enable Permanent Load Shifting?
• Some thermostats can learn:
– Thermal properties of the house (i.e. how long it holds a temp)
– A/C under sized / over sized (i.e. how long it takes to cool a
room)
• With this knowledge a thermostat could provide PLS (Pre-
cooling) when it is a good fit for the building shell
How can a phone become a thermostat sensor?
• The phone’s app use the GPS to determine that the
person has left the house
• A geo-fence indicates that the owner is on their way home
