8. MARKET REPORT
CAPESIZE
Atlantic rates remained strong especially for transatlantic round
voyages and then talk of Vale fixing 2 to 3 cargoes from Brazil to
China and a sharply higher rate for front haul timecharter
reported.
However, trading in the east remained slow with just Rio Tinto
and a couple of operators in the market for West Australia/China
cargoes and a smattering of coal business fixed.
There were rumours of stronger timecharter rates agreed earlier but the detail was in short supply.
Paper values were very strong fuelled by higher physical fixing and in turn lending support to the
market.
Koch Shipping was again active allegedly taking the CS Serenity 180,364-dwt 2014-built from Rizhao
19-21 March for about 12 months trading at $15,000 daily but some put the rate $500 daily higher.
ATLANTIC
Winning has the RWE relet KSL Santiago 181,000-dwt 2014-built in subjects for 16 March delivery
Amsterdam for a trip to the east at $27,000 daily.
Vale was linked with three ships for cargoes from Tubarao to Qingdao with the 180,181-dwt 2004-
built Pantagruel reported at $15.55 for March dates and rumours of an Oldendorff ship and a third
unnamed.
K-Line Tokyo was reported to have fixed on subjects the CIC Paola 2014-built 179,300-dwt open
Dunkirk 25 March for a trip from Ponta Da Madeira to the Continent or Mediterranean at a firm
$16,250 daily although the ship reportedly described well.
Cargill earlier fixed privately the 180,960-dwt 2014-builtt CIC relet KSL Sapporo for a 1-10 April cargo
from Punta Da Madeira to Rotterdam but a rate was not reported. The charterer also took the 2015-
built RWE relet KSL Stockholm 181,000-dwt from Wilhelmshaven for a transatlantic round at
$16,250 daily. Oldendorff earlier fixed the CCL relet Navios Pollux from for a similar run for 1-13 April
at $6.80.
Phaethon secured the Erdemir tender with the Vogerunner to move a 5-15 April 150,000-tonne !0%
cargo from Narvik to Erdemir at $5.85 basis total 1.25% commission.
ASIA
A touch more uncertainty here as Rio Tinto booked two ships the 2007-built relet Alpha Prudence
and the Angel II 2012-built each to move 28-30 March cargoes from Dampier to Qingdao at a touch
easier $6.55. The charterer was linked with the Mount Dampier for similar business Monday but the
rate was not confirmed. K-Line was Friday rumoured to have fixed a ship to make 15-25 March West
Australia for the run to the east at $17,000 daily.
9. RWE booked Hyundai Glovis tonnage to move a 5-15 April cargo from Newcastle to Kemen at $9,45,
Korea Line fixed a ship to move a 130,000-tonne 10% cargo from Gladstone to south China but a rate
was not reported.
PANAMAX
An easier market with a slow start undermining sentiment and
limited new business particularly in the north Atlantic prompting
owners to drop rates to fix. South America remained the measure
for the market and trading has slowed here with easier dop rates
reported.
In the east, rates were softer but still at reasonable levels but
there was uncertainty about the next move.
Period business included the Aeolian Breeze 74,254-dwt 2001-built spot Singapore fixing for 3 to 5
months trading but further details were not disclosed.
The Bravery 76,606-dwt 2004-built reportedly went to United for 4 to 8 months trading with delivery
aps Richards Bay for 4 to 8 months at $10,200 daily plus a bonus likely around $250,000 with the
first leg into Jorf Lasfar. The Baltia 75,776-dwt 2005-built ready 25-26 March Moneypoint clean fixed
for a short period but details were not reported.
Sources said the Great Rich 75,524-dwt 2012-built open Fangcheng 15 March was in subjets for
about a year at $10,350 daily but the charterer was not reported.
The 76,225-dwt 2005-bilt Melia open China allegedly went on subjects for around 12 months trading
at under $10,000 daily.
ATLANTIC
Cargill reportedly fixed the 2016-built Kamsarmax Super Luna, an Ausca relet, for 15 March delivery
San Ciprian for a trip via north coast South America to Spain at $9,250 daily. The 79,440-dwt 2012-
built Wei He prompt Gibraltar was also linked to Cargill for a trip via Trombetas to Aughinish at
$8,100 daily.
Sources said the Oldendorff relet Q Arion 82,188-dwt 2011-built open La Coruna 17-19 March was
reported on subjects for 2 to 3 laden legs but a rate and charterer were not disclosed. Oldendorff
also relet the Panagiotis 80,717-dwt 2010-built from Ghent 21-23 Mach for a round voyage with
grain but little else emerged.
The Inspiration 80,700-dwt 2010-built spot Cristobal has gone but details were not reported. It
emerged today that Caravel did take the 81,425-dwt 2013-built Panorea open Rotterdam spot-
prompt was said to have fixed a grain cargo from the Continent to the Persian Gulf at $15,750 daily
and not at $16,000 daily or above as some reports suggested.
South America trading has been slow but the MBA Future 82,100-dwt 2009-built open Paradip 15-16
March was said on subjects for an east coast South American round at $11,000 daily.
10. ASIA
The Gleamstar 75,491-dwt 2011-built open Kandla 16-17 March was reported fixed but sources said
this was possibly for a Richards Bay/China run, but details were not reported.
NS United reportedly took the 95,719-dwt 2013-built Honest Sky open Kinuura 17 March for a round
voyage, but a rate was not disclosed.
Cargill was rumoured taking the Darya Kirthi 80,545-dwt 2012-built open Dalian 18 March for a
NoPac round at $10,500 daily.
The 75,906-dwt 2013-built Huayang Dream open Zhangzhou 16-17 March went to Grandway
Success for a trip via Indonesia to China at $11,500 daily having failed at the end of last week for
similar business in the low $12,000s daily.
Hyundai Glovis fixed tonnage for a trip from east coast South America to east coast India in the high
$9,000s daily but little else emerged.
ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
A positional market today with brokers reporting less activity from
the US Gulf but some indicating that the Continent and east
Mediterranean was showing a tightening of tonnage.
Subdued trading in Asia with very few prompt cargoes in the market
and most quoted were forward cargoes with end March laycan but
as yet not ready to move. More nickel ore cargoes appeared on the
market in the east.
There was talk that a 63,000-tonner open in Navlakhi was rumoured booked for 4 to 6 months
trading in the low $11,000s daily.
ATLANTIC
>From last week a 56,822-dwt 2011-built was rumoured fixed from the east Mediterranean to West
Africa with the rate said to be close to $11,000 daily. The Navios La Paix 61,485-dwt 2014-built open
Continent was fixed on subjects but little else surfaced.
A 58,000-dwt open Mediterranean was rumoured on subjects for a short period minimum 3 months
redelivery worldwide at $12,250 daily.
ASIA
A Supramax was reported fixed delivery China for a trip via Indonesia to China at around $10,000
daily. From the Indian Ocean, the Aurora SB 56,119-dwt 2009-built was reported fixed basis delivery
in the Persian Gulf for a trip redelivery east coast India-Bangladesh range at $14,450 daily.
The Golden Glint 61,297-dwt 2015-built open Hong Kong was failed on subjects for a nickel ore run.
A 58,000-dwt was failed basis delivery Indonesia trip via the Philippines to China with nickel ore in
the mid $12,000s.
11. HANDYSIZE
Brokers suggested stronger rates from east coast South America but little was reported. Routes
Unlike their larger sisters, the Handy routes all remained in positive territory.
ATLANTIC
A quiet day from here today with some brokers reporting a standoff between owners and
charterers. Unsubstantiated rumours continued to circulate that a 34,000-dwt was fixed from
Recalada to the Continent at $13,750.
The Chamchuri Naree 33,733-dwt 2005-built open Aliaga mid-March was fixed with Ultrabulk for a
trip to the US Gulf-east coast central America range in the mid $6,000s for about 45 to 50 days. The
Elar Trader 37,782 built 2010 built open UK-Continent was fixed but little else emerged.
ASIA
A 35,000-dwt fixed delivery CJK for a short period of 3 to 5 months $8,250 daily. A 28,000-dwt was
rumoured fixed in the low $7,000s for a trip from east coast India to China.
Otherwise brokers reported a steady undertone in the market.
