- At the start of DIPECHO work in Vietnam the DRM approach was very much top-down with no much experience on bottom up approaches. One of the man achievement of DIPECHO support is the contribution to the creation of good working models of CBDRM together with providing quality Human Resources for implementing the models (ex: a large trainers base nationwide by DIPECHO projects) . Models were supported by advocacy at national level through JANI .JANI group (and project) contributed also strongly to a better sharing of models, learning from each other, a larger voice, better visibility etc. resulting in nationwide application of good working models and government support for community based work. (ex: National CBDRM program) The DIPECHO partners contributed significantly to the emergence and development of the National CBDRM program. All together, we are now in the process of supporting the rolling out of this ambitious program that aim to implement the CBDRM approach in 6,000 communes by 2020.
- -Training package on advocacy on DRR -Celebration of National & International DRR days (in supporting various UNISDR themes along the years) -Support to the implementation of the AADMER agreement through the DIPECHO-funded project of the APG (ASEAN Partnership Group) - More recently JANI supported the development of a Joint advocacy strategy between the JANI members, DMWG and CCWG. A consolidated joint action plan is currently being put together.
- Below a stories book about the importance of recognizing women and girls in reducing disaster risks. This is an interesting and innovative advocacy tool that was co developed between the UNs, the WU and the DIPECHO partners during the last International DRR day in October 2012.
- -The CBDRM TWG set up in 2011 has been used as an avenue to consolidate and standardized the many good materials that were developed under DIPECHO projects over the past years. -Capacity building of GoV agencies and local actors (such as VNRC, the WU or the DMC) at central and provincial level (for example DIPECHO contributed to support an extensive network of VCA facilitators and CBDRM Trainers that are now the main National trainer of the Nat CBDRM program.
- JANI supported several study tours for the media and various networks to raise the importance of a stronger CB approaches of DRM in Vietnam. The project is supporting the dissemination of information through various websites that it contributed to develop.
- In April 2012, one of the key achievement of the joint work of JANI has been that the MOET approved for the first time a DRR and CCA extra curriculum training package that was co funded by ECHO and AUSAID. The package has involved many JANI members and went through a formal review committee composed of staff from various department of the MOET. The material is now being disseminated and use in few provinces involving at least 5 JANI members.
- JANI produced a whole range of key materials. The CBDRM framework and best practices were used as the main reference materials by DMC to design the national guideline for the implementation of the National CBDRM program. Several IEC materials were developed along the years and are now being used and replicated by every actors of the DRM sector. The JANI network has also been connected to the global network of civil society organizations for DRR through the organization of regular ‘’ view from the front line surveys’’ that have highlighted important issues in CBDRM such as for example the lack of sufficient funding and focus at local level for those living on the forefront of the Natural hazards.
- An interesting production of the JANI network is the atlas of housing vulnerability & safe house. The atlas assessed the housing vulnerabilities, link the risks in local housing to the appropriate measures to be adapted locally to achieve safer houses and propose technical models to strengthened safe house in various region of Vietnam.
