2. Observations and Personal Reflections

This message is the last I shall be writing in this forum as President
of ICF-CO. I am filled with many emotions,and thoughts. One thing I
know is that our chapter is in good hands in 2019 with Jacquie Fedo
in the lead, and with the board she has gathered with your approval.
Knowing that makes leaving this post easier. Still, I am sad to go. It has truly been my great
honor to serve the profession of coaching, to serve each of you individually, and to establish
and make real a vision for what our organization can be. I personally have grown
enormously in the process right alongside our organization.
I’d like to share a mixture of observations and personal reflections.
When I was first presented with the invitation to be President Elect, I had already served on
the board for nearly a year as Education Director. My experience of the board was that it
functioned just fine, and our chapter was fine. I agreed to take the President Elect role
because someone jokingly prodded me with the remark, "You can’t be a leadership coach if
you don’t lead the chapter." So, I said yes. The truth is that when the opportunity was there,
something inside me said, "Do this!" What do you call that when you have inner guidance
like that? Is it inner wisdom? That internal God-Wink? I call it all of those things. I got the
wink and took the plunge.
I had no idea what I was stepping into.
I really had no clue what I saying yes to, but I knew I was a yes for this assignment. By the
time I really took the reins, there was so much more to do, so much more to address, and
so much more required of me than I had ever imagined when I said yes. Yet, I had
committed, so there was nothing else to do but be present to what was needed and start
figuring it out.
I was guided to make a great many more inner wisdom decisions. Assembling a stellar
team, establishing principles that we all could agree to (many hands, commitment, good
will, creativity, enthusiasm). I am grateful that those winks guided me, and that all I had to
do was stay the course. I have grown enormously every step of the way.
Now that we are three years from that day when I said yes, I am stunned at the changes I

3. see in all of us: you as members, us as an organization, me personally. We have set the
stage for a thriving and growing organization. We can handle any size membership now. We
have a solid financial foundation and excellent systems in place for both tracking and sharing
information, so that our decisions are well informed. Our presence is growing. Our coaches
are growing. We have professionalized every aspect of the board – the serving on it, the way
we interact, the way we execute, and the way we keep track of things. Thus, we lead with
confidence.
All of that is truly wonderful and critical. However, what I am most awed by is what I’ve seen
in our profession, and the expression of our profession in Colorado.
The profession of coaching provides humanity with a critical resource for its evolution. Our
work is only as important as the thriving of the entire planet. That’s how I see it. Because
our work is so critical and requires us to be so intimately trusted in the most vulnerable of
places (in the presence of an adult willing to grow), it is absolutely imperative that we treat
our work with the highest integrity and professionalism. Since that is what coaching is,
doesn’t it make sense that our professional organization support us in our professionalism at
every step of the way? I believe so.
My experience leading our organization has helped me crystallize even more just how
fundamental our own personal growing is to our performance as coaches. I am grateful for
the shaping of me that your trust in me has wrought. Thank you so much for that.
There are more people seeking the help, support and growth that professionally excellent
coaches can support than there are coaches of that high caliber. We are needed. Our
organization is needed.
I have been honored to serve you. I have been enriched in the experience. I love you, what
we all do, and this organization. I am so glad I said yes.

4. A Holiday Gift
What we do for our clients is hold a sacred space where they can vulnerably and
profoundly experience lasting shifts. Things that once done, cannot be undone. Years ago,
a coach friend of mine took me through an exercise where I created that transformative
shift creating more joy, peace, love and connection in the midst of the holiday hustle.
I offer her gift to you.
Create your own quiet moment of reflection and put yourself into the future. Pretend you
have a coffee date with yourself to look back over the holiday season, and you notice that it
has been one of the better ones. Consider who you spent your time with, and how you
were present. Notice what filled you up and rejuvenated your soul. Embrace those feelings
and set your intentions to the choices that will earn your YES and have more freedom to
the ones that won’t.
May you be filled with blessings and abundance available to each of us.

THE IGNITE PRO BONO PROJECT HAS LAUNCHED!
On November 9, ICF-CO in partnership with the Posner Center for International
Development, launched a pro bono coaching project under the ICF Global Ignite Initiative.
8 coaches and 8 clients representing 7 different non-profit organizations were matched for
coaching. As per the Ignite requirements, each coach is credentialed with the ICF, and
each client organization’s work relates to the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goal #4
Education.

5. Each participating coachee is receiving up to 10 session hours of coaching over a six-
month period. At the kickoff meeting at the Posner Center on November 9, coaches and
coachees that attended got to meet each other in person and learn the context for this
project. There was so much gratitude and excitement in the room!
ICF Colorado is tremendously appreciative of the volunteer coaches: Walt Hastings,
Jacquie Fedo, Catherine Saar, Joan Eden, Sara Boaz, Tracy Burke, Jim Tedford, and Patti
Risch.

Best Year Yet & Accountability
This Education Group will not be mee$ng in December 2018.
Jacquie Fedo will be leading a Best Year Yet© Plan Development and
Accountability SIG. Best Year Yet© is a proven success process of
creative self inquiry, reflection and planning. If you shy away from
strategic planning, this process is truly simple and you can do this. If
you're experienced in business planning and notice that your plans
mainly focus on business results, this process brings YOU back into
the strategic plan as the main recipient incorporating the whole you, your family, personal
health and wellness goals. This education group will require several investments:
Initial 6 hours of group facilitation to create your 1-page BYY Plan.
2-3 dates will be offered for in-person instruction or may be completed online
individually.
Current dates: February 10th in Centennial, CO & February 24th in CO Springs.

Continuous Coaching Development
This Education Group will meet in December 2018.
We are calling the next sessions of the Continuous Coaching
Development Education Group, "Working on the Core" -- those things
at the heart of what makes us grow. You’ll gain 2.5 CCE Units towards
your ICF certification, and .5 Resources credit.
Here's the agenda:
6.00 – 6.10pm:
Meet and Greet
6.10 – 6.30pm:
An icebreaker/warm up to get us in the frame and perceptually ready
6.30 – 6.55pm:
Brief Introduction to a model or thought process which might help you as you work with
your clients, and then a chance for you to select one of the ICF Core Competencies to work
on.
6.55 – 8.30pm:
Small Group Triads or Quads. This is a process of “close in coaching” where one person acts
as the coach, someone else the client, and then either one or two observers, depending
upon attendance. Our aim is that everyone has the opportunity to practice some “how to’s”
on a competency or indicator of a competency they select. For instance, deepening our
listening, or designing actions, etc. These will all start from establishing a “coaching
agreement” for the first 5- 10 minutes of their practice session. Then, each coach will have
10 minutes to coach the client, with observer(s) collecting evidence of how the coach did in
practicing their chosen skill area. There will be a “time-out” of 10 minutes during the
practice period for either the client, coach or observer(s) to spot the coach doing something
well, ask for help, or simply make an observation. So 30 minutes total, then swap roles until
all have completed. Quads will have to work faster, but will get more learning!
8.30 to 9.00pm:
Review, summarize, and commit, plus share any announcements.
Come get yourself ready for a set of fantastic evenings of exploring why coaching is the best
way of leading and learning there is on the planet.
These workshops are highly interactive "live coaching" practice of all the ICF core
competencies. This offering is designed for seasoned coaches to keep their skills sharp
through practicing their contracting, listening, partnering, questioning, designing actions,
etc., and getting feedback from other coaches on how well they did on their chosen area of
practice. Also designed for those new to coaching to see how they might incorporate the

13. coach's toolkit in how they lead others.

go back in your records to find CCEs from
programs you attended, mentor coaching
hours, and hours of coaching client
sessions. So go ahead and create a
spreadsheet or other document, and
update it at the end of every month. You’ll
be glad you did!
And ALWAYS request CCEs for program
you attend, even if you’re not working
toward a credential right now.
Our Colorado ICF Chapter encourages all
members to be credentialed with the ICF
and to continue to improve their coaching
skills by striving to achieve the next level
of credentialing. Many coaches find that
the choice to pursue credentialing is often
driven less by any external requirement
and more by the desire to up-level the skill
and range of our coaching and attain
greater mastery, thus enabling us to
deliver more value to current and future
clients.
To qualify for a credential, a certain
number of coach-specific training hours
are required. To renew a credential, 40
CCE’s (Continuing Coach Education)
hours are required. Our Chapter can
supply some of these hours for you
through attendance at monthly meetings or
participation in special events, such as
webinars, workshops, and the ICF-CO
Conference. If you anticipate needing
CCEs, you can register to receive them
when you sign up on our website to attend
any of our events for which CCE's are
being offered.
Even if you’re not currently pursuing
credentialing (or advanced credentialing),
we suggest that you request the CCE
certificate whenever the option is offered,
and keep it on file for later use, as
needed. You can also ask our Virtual
