Benefits of Using Pay per Click Search Engines
Digital marketing is essential to bring your
website in front of your targeted audience.
When you understand what Pay per Click Search
Engines are and what the advantage is of using the
right ones for you and using them wisely, you’ll see
why they are now a crucial part of any successful
digital marketing plan.
As a business owner, you want more business.
Digital marketing has a number of different
categories, each with their own strategies, and
they all work together to meet similar goals.
Regarding people using the search engines to find
products and services, what is most important to
you is that the right type of potential customers,
and lots of them, see the link to your website and
want to click on it.
You want a targeted, focused customer base, who
spot your link easily, click on it quickly, and stay on
your web pages for a long time.
Fast
Every business needs to make pay per click part of their digital marketing campaign.
The more you are in a hurry to skyrocket your business on the fast track as soon as possible, the more
you need to look at pay per click options. Why?
It takes time, at least a few months, before most major search engines can index a new site and then
you can move up in the search engine rankings for major keyword terms in your field. (Of course the
more you use search engine optimization techniques the quicker this will happen but there are many
factors involved.)
In the meantime, pay per click search engines have multiple benefits including that they can jump
start you right way, attracting searches to your new website before it’s fully indexed and optimized
completed for the major web search engines.
Take me to the top, Baby
In this day and age, when nobody looks past the first pages and often people only look at the first six
or seven listings, every listing you go up can mean more customers, and more reoccurring dollars in
your pocket.
So you need to do everything in your power to take your listing up to the top. Pay per click strategies
will help you do well in the organic searches as well when used as part of a well thought out, strategic
marketing plan. This is why it is an essential part of your “see you at the top” goal.
Besides the fact that pays per click search engines are fast, easy, and help you rise in the search
engines, some other benefits are that:
1. You only pay when someone clicks your site
2. They are extremely cost-effective because you can decide on the rate that you are
www.Seocustomer.com Page 10/89
willing to pay for each click for the keywords that you chose. Some rates can be as
low as a penny per word.
3. You are going to get a huge return on investment. You will be able to visibly track
your progress and see your returns.
Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, MSN/BING PPC, and Facebook PPC are the
biggest Pay Per Click Search Engines.
They are going to be more costly but worth the expense. Less well-known pay per click
search engines generally offers a much lower cost.

Mobile Marketing for Local Business
One of the mayor trends in marketing 2012 is
mobile marketing. According to the research
company ComScore there are over 100 million
Smartphone subscribers in the US (January
2012).
So the question is – how can your local business
use mobile marketing to make more sales. I will
show you 3 easy ways to get in contact with theses
100 million people.
To make a great mobile marketing strategy we have
to know how people are using their Smartphones.
 Text Messaging 92%
 Taking Photos 92%
 Internet Browsing 84%
 Emailing 76%
 Downloading Apps 69%
 Gaming 64%
 Social Networking 60%
 Navigating 55%
 Watching Video 54%
 Tweeting 15%
 Checking-In 12%
Social Media Mobile
59 percent of all users of Smartphones use it
for their social media like Facebook. 15
percent use it to tweeting. So your business
has to get a business page on Facebook and
make some tweets on twitter.
Most of the social networks are offering ads connected to the geographical location. So you
can promote your hairdresser salon to the people in a specific zip code. You can also target
all females from 20 – 30 years old, in a specific zip code. So be sure who your audience is.
This could be a great idea for local shops or restaurant.
You can also make a Friday special with half price.
Are you in the food industry you may have to sell your products before the expiration date.
Then use mobile marketing to get rid of your stock.
Make a Facebook update about your sale to get more sale on your website. Use the mobile
ad for Geo targeting your audience. This will help you to drive more traffic to your physical
shop.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 12/89
Use Coupons
A very simple but effective way using
mobile marking is to create mobile
coupons.
In a survey from 2012, the
Smartphone owners were asked, how they
were receiving different types of mobile
advertising. The results were very
interesting for local businesses. The
Smartphone owners were most interested
in receiving grocery coupons (36%), 29%
would like scanable barcode, 26% would
like offers to save and pursue at leisure,
26% movie theater offers and finally 21%
would like ads via SMS from a retailer with
a promotion or coupon (published
by Compete.com).
Yes you read correct! 21% would like to
get an SMS from a retailer with a
promotion/coupon. That’s 1 in 5
Smartphone owners. Amazing. So it’s not
really surprising that retail-oriented
mobile marketing technologies like
coupons and barcodes are the first
technologies to reach the consumer.
Use your social networks like Facebook
and Twitter to drive your audience to your
mobile landing page, where they can get a
mobile coupon. An old fashion SMS can
drive people to your mobile site too.
Let them show you the coupon in your
physical shop.
Do You Have a Mobile Site?
When more and more people using their
Smartphones to access the internet, you
might have to consider creating a specific
mobile site. IDC reports show that the
Smartphone market in the 4th quarter of
2012 – up 87% from the year before –
was beating the PC sales for the first
time. People can do business with your
from their Smartphones.
Most of the “normal” websites are very
difficult to use with a Smartphone. Some
websites will not even upload correct on a
Smartphone. You will have to make the
mobile browsing a good experience for
your potential customers. Because the
screen on a Smartphone is much smaller
www.Seocustomer.com Page 13/89
than on your laptop – you will have to create a special mobile site. So go and check out your
website – how does it look on a mobile browser?
Check out this Infographic from Hybris about Mobile Marketing Commerce to get more ideas
about the trends – and get more ideas.
Conclusion
Mobile marketing is growing fast these days. So you better start to think about how you can
use this in your marketing strategy.
And even small local shops or business can use mobile marketing.

What Users Expect from Your Facebook Fanpage
Design?
Visitors have a lot of expectations from
Facebook Fanpage design. Businesses can
pamper fans with more interactive features,
great deals, special offers, and mini sites on
the page.
A Facebook Fanpage can be created by a designer
having knowledge of web technologies. Then, have
you ever pondered what it has to offer to its fans?
And what are their expectations from it? These are
the questions that you should ask before creating a
Facebook Fanpage design. It should be not be
designed for the sake of it. There should be a
purpose.
In this article, we will have a look at the expectations of users from your Fanpage. Let’s have a read…
More Interactive Features
You have designed it for attracting the attention of your visitors, and therefore it should not be passive.
It is great to look at a big welcome message, but modern users want some activity. They are keener
on doing something interesting when they land up on your business Fanpage.
It is all about sharing content intelligently. Consider yourself as an online toy seller. You can make use
of a splash image having the link to your photo album page where users can upload pictures of their
kid’s favorite toys. Also provide a link on the splash image that directs visitors to your products page.
This is a smart marketing campaign that allows fans to do some activity, as well as make them
acquainted with your products, i.e. the toys.
Offer Interesting Deals !
The success of it depends on how smartly you can push engaging content. Yes, fans like viewing
content that rouses their interest. This is one reason many businesses as part of their Facebook page
customization strategy keep users informed by offering lucrative deals or discounts. You might be
asking how they go about it. Through their status updates!
Fans also like to be pampered with new visuals and engaging content. The best way to do it is by
offering unique offers on your custom-made tab. It is not that difficult as you perceive it to be. You can
include an appropriate splash image that will boast of your exclusive offers. This form of promotion
should be included in your updates.
You simply have to tweak the photo on the fan page so that visitor’s attention is diverted towards your
products or services. Every time a user lands on your page, he will get to know of your products or
offers. In other words, it will make the page look new if regularly updated with new and exciting deals.
Mini Sites in Fan Pages
Yes, there are some companies that walk the extra mile as far as Fanpage design is concerned. An
ideal way to attract more user attention is by including mini-sites into your Fanpage. This point can be
explained with an example. You can add rich multimedia related content under a tab ‘Fan’s Zone’. It
can allure visitors with videos, photos or events related to your company.
You can make use of Flash to make such mini-sites more interactive. However, make sure that you
www.Seocustomer.com Page 15/89
adhere to Facebook guidelines. How effective your Fanpage will be depends on the ability of the
developer offering customized web development services.

SEO the Beatles Way
We all know there are two kinds of people
right? Those who love the Beatles and those
who are lying.
But The Beatles is much more than great music,
culture and old history. The Beatles is also SEO.
Let me take you down memory lane and show you
how The Beatles can help your search engine
optimization.
So here it is – SEO The Beatles way.
T – Stands for Trust
Trust are one of the most important elements in
the Google Ranking Algorithm. So you will have to
build trust to your site.
The domain age is an important factor which is
difficult to do anything about. But you can do a lot
of other things.
Registration information – in general there is more trust to a public registration than a private
registration. So a .Gov or .Org name will have more trust than a .Biz or .Com.
Physical address. Write your physical address on your site – this will also help your trust by your
viewers.
Privacy policy. If you have any web form where you are collecting data you should have a well written
privacy policy and use some secure data transfer (like SSL Certificate) and tell your viewers that you
are using it. If you see my web form – you will see that it says “We respect your email privacy” and
you can read more.
FAQ page. A FAQ page will also help you increase the trust of your site.
Who links to you and who do you link to? If a spammy site links to you, you will lose some trust. But
it’s also true the other way around. If you link to a spammy site – the search engines will mark your
site as less important in the search rankings.
Read more about how to build trust to your site here.
H – Stands for HTML
You will have to optimize your site thinking of your
HTML. This is an on page optimization. So be sure
you have the right title for your page. Remember
to use your keyword in the title.
Make a description for your page – again your
keyword is important. You will find your description
here.
<head> <meta name=”description” content=”This
is an example of a meta description. This will often
show up in search results.”> </head>
Meta descriptions can be very lengthy – but the
search engines generally don’t show more than 160 characters. So keep it between 150 and 160
characters.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 17/89
It’s no more a ranking factor but it will show up on the result page. So you will have to make the
browser so curious so the person will have to click on your link.
The Beatles can show you much more. Are you ready for more?
E – Stands for Elements on your homepage
You will have to be careful about the elements on
your page.
Especially if you are thinking of doing a redesign of
your home page.
You might consider how you can make a redesign
of your homepage so you can generate more leads
than you do now. There are a lot of critical
elements you need to incorporate into your
homepage.
You need to tell your customers about their
benefits from buying your product. But most of the
people on the internet will only spend up to 10
second on a homepage before going to another
page. So you will have to be very clear about your
design.
You might say that this is not a ranking factor – but
it is. A very simple example is the bounce rate. The
bounce rate is a ranking factor – and with the
elements on your site you can lower your bounce
rate. If you put a search bar on your homepage – a
lot of people will search – and will see another
page then the landing page and that will
automatically lower your bounce rate. Amazing right?
Get a lot of other great tips and tricks here about elements on your homepage.
B – Stands for Backlinks
Getting somebody to link to your site is the single most important ranking factor for search engines
like Google or Bing. It’s all about getting some link juice to your site – to show the search engines that
your site is a great site.
Here you have some ideas for building backlinks.
There have been a lot of talk about the differences and benefits of dofollow links and nofollow links for
search engine optimization.
Of course it’s good with dofollow because you will get the link juice from one site to the other site.
But what about nofollow links. The nofollow links were created by Google. The idea was that Google
would not follow the link to crawl its content. So all this means that you will not get any link juice if a
website makes a nofollow link to your site right? But you will still get attention and some traffic from
the link. And to make your backlinks look natural you got to have both kinds of backlinks.
Building backlinks can be a very time consuming process. You will have to search for relevant tropic,
contact the sit site owner, maybe do some guest blogging, article marketing or do some commenting
on blogs.
Here you can read more about how to get high quality backlinks to your site.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 18/89
E – Stands for Error check
This might be one of the most overlooks SEO techniques.
You can submit your site, sitemap and RSS feed to the Google Webmaster Tools. After you have
submitted it – Google will find any errors or other issues your site might have. And you will have to
correct the mistakes.
Well that was it. It’s really that simple.
A – Stands for Architecture
The architecture of your site is important too. Is it
possible for the search engines to crawl your site? If
it’s not possible to crawl – the rest of all your SEO
doesn’t really matter.
How fast is your site? If it’s too slow your visitors
will leave your site before it is finished loading.
And remember to check your URL structure. Check
both the structure and the names. Do you have
some logical categories? And remember to use your
keywords in the URL names.
Start at the bottom of the SEO pyramid and work
your way up.
Read more about the SEO pyramid here.
T – Stands for Time
In the old marketing days people were saying that the customer was king. Now people are saying
content is king. Maybe they are both right. But with the SEO I will say Time is king.
SEO is not working today or tomorrow. It’s a slow process. You might get some results in 3 or 4 weeks
or maybe 2 or 3 months from now. So it’s important that you give it time to work.
It’s just like building a brand. It takes time.
How can people trust your product if they don’t know your name. How can the search engines trust
and like your site if they don’t know it. If you are working with backlinks you will know that it takes
time too.
It’s an ongoing process.
L – Stands for Links
So you will say – hey Henrik you have told us about backlinks already – why do you keep on talking
about links?
Well it’s because links are so important.
And remember to work with your internal links too. Build some links with your keywords in the anchor
text. This is an on page optimization – so this will be easier than the off page optimization.
Here I will give you some more tips and tricks about link building.
E- Stands for Education
SEO is constantly changing. Every year Google changes its search algorithm up to 500-600 times. So
it’s important to keep up to date with SEO. Read all about the Google changes here.
Read the news, blogs, and magazines.
(And remember to stay in touch with www.SeoCustomer.com).
www.Seocustomer.com Page 19/89
Right now you can join our brand new group on LinkedIn. You can find us here on LinkedIn.
S – Stands for Social
Social media is becoming more and more important these days.
Ranking is the search engines way to compare your websites to your competitor’s website for a specific
keyword right? But living in the age of the social and personalize web. Google and other search
engines will know you more and more. And it will give you a very personalize and local result for you.
If you are searching for coffee – Google already knows you have a good friend who you talk with on
the net 4 times a week and his best friend has a coffee shop half a mile from you. So of course Google
will show you that shop at the top of the ranking.
So if you think of the SEO as a stand-alone industry – you have to redefine your thinking. The baby
Social Media is here to stay – or at least for a very long time.
Here are my top 10 social media tips:
1. Go for platforms with the most users – like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+
2. Look into your competitors’ activities
3. Identify your objectives
4. Create content
5. Allow social sharing
6. Refrain from making it all about YOU
7. Participate actively
8. Use headlines – create eye/catching and interesting titles
9. Publish events
10. Create a network
Read more about social networks here.
Conclusion
So didn’t I tell you? The Beatles is much more than just great music and culture. And by the way I
hope you did hear some Beatles music while you were reading this article.
So a big thanks to Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Are Your Targeted Keywords Still Working?
Keep the traffic coming to your website with fresh keywords.
Do you know this situation – you are writing great content for your website or blog, you are
posting new articles every week and you have optimized your website for your keywords and
do social media sharing – your traffic is going down and your traffic doesn’t stay a long time
on your site.
At least once a year you have to check out your targeted keywords. This is a way to really
blast your targeted traffic with fresh keywords.
The Internet and the way people are searching keep changing all the time.
So remember to stay on your toes.
So how should you check it and fix your target keywords?
Check out your keywords
The success of your keywords is depending on
your own website, how people are searching
on the internet and the competition for the
word.
So let’s check it out.
Your website
What do you want to be found on?
What kind of product do you offer and what
are your values? This is not so easy as it
sounds. When you know your values and
products try to read your copy.
Do you communicate your values and product
offers?
You will never get found on your targeted
keywords if your website doesn’t have original great content about you’re your main subject.
So be sure your keywords are relevant for your business.
Searching on the Internet
Next step is to check if people are searching for the keywords you are picking.
Let’s say your main keyword phrase is “high quality cars”. (Yes a wired example but it’s the
best I could find).
Go to Google Keyword Tool and check out the traffic for your local or global market.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 23/89
I just found that there were only 5.400 searches for this phrase every month.
But if you pick “quality cars” you will have 60.500 searches. So you can get in touch with
many more potential customers using this keyword phrase.
Competition for the keyword
Okay you might have the perfect keyword for your website and a lot of potential traffic – but
what about the competition?
If all the pages showing on page 1 on Google or the other search engines are difficult to beat
you still have a problem getting the traffic your great content deserve.
There is a lot of great software around where you can check the competition. Google
Keyword Tool. It’s a great tool. With Google Keyword Tool you can see if a competition is
high, medium or low – but it’s not the competition for the PPC and not the SEO words (I just
learned that ).
But you can check it out using software like “Market Samurai”. It’s not a free program, but it
can help you save a lot of time. (They have a 12 day free trial program – and some of the
features are still working after the 12 days).
In general the programs help you to check out these elements.
• PageRank
• Age of the domain in years
• Number of backlinks of the page
• Number of backlinks of the entire domain/site
• Number of backlinks coming from .edu and .gov domains
• If listed in DMOZ
• If listed in the Yahoo Directory
• If a keyword is included on the Title page
• If the keyword is mentioned on the site/page description
• If the H1 tag on the page contains the keyword
• Age in days of Google’s cached version of the page
• Number of sites linking to domain from country (TLD) of the initial search
Conclusion
Remember to check out your keywords at least once a year. Maybe it’s time to rethink them
and the some fresh keywords for your site. Remember that the traffic is constantly changing
www.Seocustomer.com Page 24/89
on the Internet.
Keywords that were good last year might not work anymore.

How small businesses can use mobile marketing
Mobile marketing is all the rage these days,
and there are an infinite number of ways a
small business can capitalize on it.
Mobile marketing has many meanings and
variations, but the most common these days
is marketing via a mobile device like a cell
phone or iPad device.
The point of mobile marketing is to advertise
your small business through the use of
applications, text messages, and any other
combination of digital sounds, texts and
images in order to reach a potential customer
wherever they may be.
These days, advertising is a whole different ballgame, and the traditional forms of
advertising- while still effective- are becoming obsolete, as the internet and mobile
technology have made it easier for small businesses to control all of their marketing on their
own, without the use of a middleman (like a print newspaper, flyers, billboards, radio and
television.)
Not only is marketing cheaper with the advent of mobile marketing in the digital age, but in
many ways it is also cheaper and more efficient. With mobile marketing, it is also easier to
track how effective the marketing campaign actually is, because you can receive real time
data as it becomes available.
Now, you can know how many people have seen the marketing advertisements, and how
many have actually followed through with the call to action in the marketing campaign.
1. SMS Marketing
SMS marketing is probably the most efficient and effective way to harness the power of
mobile marketing for a small business.
Essentially how SMS marketing works, is that a customer will sign-up for a sort of newsletter,
which then will be sent to their phone via text messaging.
At the very least, SMS marketing can resemble cold calling, except that the customer has to
opt in first and provide their cell phone number in order for it to work, and, it’s the very
most, SMS marketing is a great way to stay in touch with past and present customers, and
may be effective in attracting new ones to your small business.
Studies have shown that more than 90% of SMS marketing messages are opened up and
viewed within the first 5 minutes of sending them, so if done correctly, this can be a huge
asset for any small business owner.
2. Google it up
Google is one of the greatest resources for any small business. The best way to utilize
Google is to take advantage of the Google Places app, to make sure your business is high-up
in Google search inquiries and to use their advertising model in order to offer customers
deals, coupons and other special perks via Google.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 26/89
3. QR Codes
With the dissemination of Smartphones, having a QR code can be very beneficial. These will
allow a customer to scan a barcode-like object with their Smartphone, which can access
special deals and coupons relating to your business- or guide them to your business’ web
page.

Design to Sell – 5 Tips for Your Design
When you design your website you will have
to be creative. But a good looking website
alone will not help you to sell your products or
service. You will have to convert your visitors
to buyers. Let me show you 5 great tips for
better conversion.
I love everything about SEO – but if I get a lot
of visitors to my site – and they don’t buy
anything it really doesn’t matter. I need to
convert visitors to buyers.
No matter if you want your visitors to sign up for your newsletter, download a PDF or to buy
a product.
So I let introduce you to some marketing techniques you can use when you are designing
your website.
Prevent Choice Paralysis
This phenomenon is very useful to know about.
Don’t give your audience too many choices to
choose between. To give a choice is great. But
don’t overuse it. You will confuse the buyer. If
you confuse the buyer they might just leave
you right away.
Make it easy to be a visitor on your site. If you
want your visitors to sign up for a newsletter
(I want that on my site here) be sure you
have a visible call to action.
If you are writing about a product tell which
one of the choices you like the most. With
your design you can make your suggestion
product picture bigger than the other ones.
Make it with another background picture.
There is no doubt that SEOmoz wants you to buy the PRO version of its program right. They
are telling you want to do. Just by using different colors. And you only get 3 choices.
Subliminal Suggestion
Have you heard of this before? It was a big hit
in marketing a few years back. But you can
still use some of the elements.
Newer research shows that it really didn’t help
that much anyway and most of the sneak
messages were eliminated.
A very famous example that everybody is still
talking about is about a hidden ad picture in a
movie, and suddenly everybody in the cinema
wanted to buy that product. Well this wasn’t
www.Seocustomer.com Page 28/89
true I have heard.
But you know – the advertising industry is still using some subliminal messaging, and you
can use it for your website design too. Today, you can meet subliminal messaging for
personal development, when trying to stop smoking and a lot of weight loss aids. You can
still buy theses CDs and DVDs commercially.
When you are choosing your pictures for your
website, you must think about what kind of
messages the pictures are sending. Choose
pictures that embody your message or feeling.
Don’t just use the first picture you find – think
carefully about your use of pictures. No stock
photos (please).
You get 2 different feelings here right with the
bikes. One picture is selling adventure the
other picture is just selling a bike.
What kind of messages do you want to send to
your visitors?
Show the Product
Out in the real world (yes you can still sell
products in the real world I am told) you can
see and touch the products. Sometimes you
can smell it too.
In fact I am sitting right now eating
strawberries – I can taste them, smell them (I
tell you they are awesome). But how do you
want to sell strawberries on the internet.
Well show your product. We can’t make smell (well I have read about a way to do that on
the internet too – but that’s another post) so we will have to show the product. Maybe make
a video. What about a 360 degree photo.
A lot of companies selling software forget to show the product or the screen dumps. Show it
– show lots of pictures.
Often people are making their judgments based on how the product looks like. Appearance
is important – it’s an indicator of a product’s usability. This is also known as the aesthetic-
usability effect.
This product is Rank Tracker. But the company has shown it in a kind of physical box. A great
way to show a virtual product right?
www.Seocustomer.com Page 29/89
Design and let People Try It
It is becoming more and more popular to let people try the product. Maybe try it for free 30 days or a
limited version of the product.
People will get used to the product and after the trial period they just need to have it right? If you
want the full version you will have to buy it.
This is really a great way for software products to sell.
I know – this is not a design element. But you can still get a lot of conversions. And get your sale.
Aweber which is newsletter software (I use this software – awesome) has a sign up for just 1 dollars
and the first month free. Then you will get your first sign ups with this program – so why change after
1 month?

Design by the Gutenberg Rule
I love this rule. The Gutenberg rule. Johannes Gutenberg was a German blacksmith, printer, publisher
who introduced printing in Europe. His invention of mechanical movable type printing started the
Printing Revolution (Wikipedia). If you haven’t heard of him – go and check him out.
The theory is that a reader uses his mental path when he is viewing a design. This is called reading
gravity. Here in the western world we read from left to right and top to bottom. So with this knowledge
we can make the Gutenberg diagram.
So we read a page or design from “Primary Optical Focus” and end up in the “Terminal Area”. This is
why it’s good to have a call to action in the bottom right instead of the bottom left. Let me show you
an example here.
Market Samurai (great program about finding the right keywords) has a free trial for download.
Remember now we are talking about elements. Of course you can use colors and pictures to control
your readers’ eyes too.

The Good, the Bad and the Average – PPC
Strategy
“The average tyrannies“ have you ever heard
of that?
Let's say that we have 5 men who all are 2 meter
tall – and 5 men who are 1.80 meter tall. Then you
will tell say that the average height is 1.90 meter –
right? The problem is that nobody is really 1.90
meters tall in this group of men.
“The tyranny of averages is a phrase used in
applied statistics to describe the often overlooked
fact that the mean does not provide any
information about the distribution of a data set or
skewness, and that decision or analysis based on
this value—as opposed to the median and standard
deviation—may be faulty” (from Wikipedia).
The average PPC
In PPC you will have an average of – let’s say – 10
dollars per conversion in 2011. But you will have
some months doing much better and month doing
lots worse.
Maybe your product is a product that is only really interested in the summertime – even though people
might click on your ads all year around. So maybe your conversion rate in the summertime is only 1
dollar.
Most of the time your conversion rate is not average – it’s always better or worse than the average.
My PPC campaigns are bad…?
But with a conversion rate of 10 dollars you are losing money – so your boss or your client tells you to
stop advertising on Google Adwords or other PPC search engines.
Big Mistake!
You should stop advertising from October to May – and spend the entire budget in the summertime
instead.
The lesson to learn here is to dig deeper than the average number. The average number is for the
executive summary. So of course you need average numbers – but you will make a big mistake if you
only focus on the averages.
Check out the worst and best performing keywords and ads – Why are they performing bad/well? Is
there some kind of characteristics about them? Remember to check out the hour performance, is the
weekend better, seasoning etc.
You average might look fine for some of your campaigns – but they still might be doing a bad job half
of the time.
So take your time to dig deeper.
An example of the average tyrannies is this one. I had an ad that was doing average.
I was checking it once a week. The next week it was really going down. The problem was that the
client had deleted the landing page. So I was sending thousands of people to an non exciting page
every day.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 32/89
If I had been more careful and not trusted the average I would have discovered that Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday were great. And after that 0 conversion. Instead the next Monday I could see – that it
was still average.

What Elvis Can Learn Us about SEO
The other day I had an article about SEO the
Beatles Way. - So I was thinking, if The
Beatles could learn us something – what about
Elvis – the king himself.
So put on some music from the king while
reading this article – deal?
Elvis wasn’t the best singer or musician in the
50s. He wasn’t the best dancer.
I think what made him great was his passion.
He was maybe the most passionate one that
has ever lived. He didn’t just stand still singing
his music; he was jumping around, moving his
hips.
His body language was huge. He shows facial
expression. His passion was so huge that
50.000.000 people couldn’t be wrong in 1959.
So ask yourself – what passion are you
bringing to your website? How do you write about your product or service – plain and boring?
With passion? Don’t write like a robot – remember you are writing to people.
Even if you are writing in the B2B market – you are still writing to people. What makes your
product different? Why is it the best product in the world? Why should people buy it from
you? Do you think that writing with passion will help the sale?
Well I think so.
Bring passion to your website.
The 10.000 hour rule is king
Another rule we can learn from Elvis (and also
The Beatles) is the 10.000 hour rule – have
you heard of this rule?
Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book in 2008 called
“Outliers: The Story of Success”. Caldwell
examines which factors that contributes to a
high level of success.
He was checking out ice hockey players who
were born in the first months of the calendar
year (they would play more than the people
born later in a year), Bill Gates and The
Beatles.
The Beatles were playing songs in Liverpool
and Hamburg for years before getting famous
– yes they had 10.000 hours of practical training before make it in 1963. And so did Elvis –
he was singing, learning the guitar years before getting famous too.
And after making his first records he went out playing lots and lots of concert – and he was
getting better all the time.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 35/89
Conclusion
So the lesson is – be patient when you are doing SEO. It will take a long time to be good
doing SEO. Have passion and be patient.
It will also take a long time from changing some elements on your website until you can see
the result in the search ranking position.

How You Get the Easiest and Highest Quality
Backlinks Fast
We all know it’s not easy getting our high
quality backlinks.
The high quality backlinks are do-follow
backlinks from pages which have content
almost like ours.
You can get backlinks from a lot of social sites
– like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – but
most of them are no-follow.
There are 2 groups that I advise all B2B
companies to start getting backlinks from –
Customers and suppliers. If you are a B2C
company you can still get backlinks from
suppliers’ websites.
So how do you get these backlinks?
Don’t just write them an e-mail asking them for a backlink – most of the time this will not
work.
1. Start building your list of likely linkers – remember both groups
 Ask a department head to help you with your list depending on the size of your
company
 Who are your happiest customers?
 Where do you buy most of your parts for your product?
 Do you have a testimonials page or case studies on your website
 If you have an email club – give a shout for testimonials or case studies. A lot of
customers would like to help you. This will help you get contact information to
relevant persons/companies
 Check also your companies customer database/CRM
2. Make the priority list
 Check out the customer, supplies or vendors’ websites – who has the highest
authority?
 Use an SEO program to help you – like Market Samurai – find out more contact
information (remember also the social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn),
how many Inbound and Outbound links, PageRank, MozRank, Domain Age.
 You can also use a plugin for your browser to find this information
3. Ask for the link
www.Seocustomer.com Page 39/89
 Give them a good reason to link to you – don’t say please – give them an offer they
cannot refuse
 Where on their site do you want them to link to your site?
 Do they have a testimonial or case list?
 Do they have a blog or guest blog?
 Offer them, that they can have an interview with somebody from your company
 You can also ask for an interview with somebody from their company for your own
website – it will show them as expert – and you could ask them to link to that page –
maybe from their news section.
 Most companies have a partner page – so ask to be mentioned on this page
4. Anchor text
 When asking for a link – remember to suggest an anchor text. This way you will have
your main keywords mention in their anchor text.
Conclusion
Start your link building with your customer and supplies. You have a chance to get relevant,
high quality, do-follow backlinks.

How to Use the Google Display Results Instead
of the Rank Results
There is a huge difference between Google
Ranked Results and the Google Display
Results.
Ranking is much more than just ranking these
days. Let me show you this example.
Lots of view options
I was typing in the keyword “Fitness”. And look
at these results. I have a lot of options to the
left. I can choose to see the web, images,
maps, videos, news, shopping, blogs or books.
So using video on YouTube or other sites for
video sharing will improve your ranking in this
category.
When uploading a video to YouTube you will therefore not only get a higher ranking in the
general search results but also for the search results in the video category.
Time frame option and more…
I can also choose a time frame – so I only see the absolute new pages – the standard is
anytime but I can also pick out past hour, past week, past month, past year or use a custom
range. These options are one of the reasons why it’s a great idea to have your customer
comment on your pages – not in a special blog – but directly on your page. This will keep
the page fresh.
And the next options are sites with images, related searches, visited pages, not yet visited
pages, dictionary, reading level, personal nearby, custom location.
You get my point – when we think SEO we have to think much more than just the old
fashion ranking.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 41/89
Local Searches
Searching for the keyword “Fitness” and with my location in New York City I get the map
from the local search and a lot of local search results. So SEO is also to get you listed in the
local searches right?
If you have a fitness center in New York City it’s not even enough to list your business in the
local searches you will also have to make SEO for the local searches. Check it out here.
Google Adwords
And yes – Google Adwords. Google Adwords can be a great tool to generate traffic to your
site. But remember to check out the rentability with your Adwords.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 42/89
I am a big fan of Google Adwords because you only pay when people click on your link. But
remember to check out your conversion rates. You can read a lot more about Google
Adwords here at www.SeoCustomer.com.
Getting social with Google+
We all know that there is a connection between Social Media and SEO right.
The social media have an increasing influence on the Google Algorithm.
Google is giving a much greater emphasis to the personalized results, at the expense of the
more traditional results. The social content, such as Google+ postings and blog posts now
appear much more prominently in the search ranking results. The idea is this – if you or
your friend Bob – has recommended or liked a page it will get a high ranking in your
personalized results.
Google uses social signals as an authority measure. The logic is simple. If you page get
more “likes” than your competitors’ page then your page is more trusted by Google and it
will then get a higher ranking (all other things equal).
It’s not sure whether Google uses like from all social sites – and which ones that has the
most impact on the Google Algorithm. But Google has all data from its Google+ network so
Google+ is one of the main players.
Conclusion
Remember there is a huge difference between Ranked Results and Display Results in Google.
When we do SEO we will have to think of both the ranked results but also the displayed
results. With the displayed personalized and localized results you can now much easier bring
your page to the top of the Google ranking.

How to Use External Links for Your Own Benefit
When SEO people are talking about links –
most of the time they will talk about backlinks.
But you can also use your external links to
improve your site.
So what are external links? Its links from your
website that links outside your own domain to
other websites on the internet.
Some people are afraid of using them.
They think “if people click away from my
website I will never see them again – so I
better not link to an outside domain”.
Other people are thinking “what if the website
I am linking to is a spammy or bad website –
then I might be punished by the search
engines”.
And you will also find people that have the
idea that “I should never link to a website that
has a lower PageRank than mine”.
With external links you will provide your readers with in-depth information about the topic
you are writing about. You can also write your own unique commentary on existing
resources.
But if I Use External Linking I will Never See the Reader Again
Well you will have to rethink if you are among these people. When you are using external
links you will provide your readers with a lot of information and references and this will show
to the reader that your site has credible information.
And we all know that a credible website is a website that the readers will return to in the
future to get more information – right?
What is the alternative for the reader?
Well if the reader doesn’t find the information he or she needs on your website – the person
will just go on Google, Bing or Yahoo and find the wanted information elsewhere. So when
not help your reader with credible information.
You don’t have to link to your competitors – even though the reader might find them anyway.
You can start by linking to great technical people, scientists’ people, bibliographies,
Wikipedia, white papers, journal entries.
When you link to websites like these it will show that you know your product or business.
And that you know what you are talking about on your webpage. Yes credible information.
Will search engine penalize me for my external links?
No – good external links are great for your website – and the search engines will reward you
for doing so. But you are taking a risk. If you like to spammy sites or link farms or paid links
they will penalize you.
This is the reason you will have to be sure you are linking to the right places, the specialist,
www.Seocustomer.com Page 44/89
the technical people, and the white papers and so on.
If you have a website where people can comment on your pages (and yes it’s a great idea –
to keep the page fresh) then you should be very careful which websites the comments
are linked to.
The best way is often to moderate the comments and take away the URL in the comments –
and also to make all comment a no-follow link. Also undisclosed paid advertising outbound
links can reduce your website’s credibility.
Another issue is too many links on one page – this might confuses visitors. Google advises
webmasters to have no more than 100 links per page.
One of my readers here reminded me about the landing page for a convert to sale page. This
has to be clear and clean. No need to confuse the potential buyer in the last phase of a
buying. And he is absolutely right.
And Google don’t really love exchanging any types of links – so stay away from that too …
So what about if I link to a low PageRank website?
Don’t worry about this.
But you are right – if you are linking to a website that has a lower PageRank than yours –
you will lend them some credibility (link juice). And if the website you are linking to has a
higher PageRank than yours you will not.
Google writes this on their own blog – “If you’re linking to content you believe your users
will enjoy, and then please don’t worry about the site’s perceived PageRank. As a webmaster,
the things to be wary of regarding outbound links are listed above, such as losing credibility
by linking to spammy sites. Otherwise, consider outbound links as a common sense way to
provide more value to your users, not a complicated formula.”
I better make an external link here. So read more about external linking of Google’s own blog
Conclusion
Yes, yes, yes – use external links on your website and comments. Just remember to
moderate your comments and make the comments no-follow links.
With external links you will get a higher credibility and you will see your readers again.
Remember to grab the 3 free eBooks here at SeoCustomer with tips and tricks about SEO,
SEM, Social Media Traffic and Link Building.

All the best to you.

Spin the Traffic Generating Wheel
Have you ever heard about the traffic generating wheel?
It’s a wheel you will have to start spinning and you can use it for a new website or for a
website that is already up and running.
To get a traffic coming to your website you need to work with all these elements – a
combination of the elements.
So are you ready to take a spin with me?
Goals
Do you have a goal for your website? Is it sale? Or a download? Or a sign up for a newsletter?
Or something else?
Most of the website I have seen doesn’t really have a visible goal. If you ask the webmaster
he or she will say well I want the customer to call our sales people – that is our goal.
But then I just asked why I can only find the phone number in a contact us page and not on
all the product pages.
I will say to find your goals are the most important step of the wheel. And I would write it
down on a piece of paper and tape it to the computer.
Never forget what your goals are for your website.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 46/89
Analytic
Now you have your goal ready – it’s time to set up your analytic.
You need this analytic on your website. You need to know – Which pages are your visitors
reading? Where do they come from? How long time do they spend on your site.
And you need to set up your goal in the analytic too. If your goal is to have a sign up for a
newsletter – you will need to have this goal implemented on your goals set up.
With this goal you will learn where the people who sign up for the newsletter are coming
from. Are they all coming from mentioning on Twitter and
Facebook but not from Google+. Or are they all from Google+ and never from Facebook?
Maybe you have no signups from social networks but from your ad on Google Adwords?
You will also need to find your keywords. First of all which keywords will be relevant to your
site? Write them down. Then go and check out the competition for these keywords – is it
very difficult to get on top of the ranking for these keywords?
Maybe you should use a combination – so instead of “cars” you could rank high for the word
phrase “blue cars” or “used cars” or even “used blue cars”.
Now you will have to check out the searches for these keywords – how many people are
searching for “used blue cars” or “blue cars”. No reason to rank high if there is no traffic
right?
Well you get my point – never work on a website that has no analytic.
Content
Content is king – so I have been told. This is why you want the customer to come to your
site right?
Write great content. Something useful for your readers. People should think you give
credible information.
You are a specialist in your field. So tell your audience what they need to know about your
product.
Your viewers will return if you are providing great information. This will not bring you a lot of
traffic next week or next month – but with great content you audience will grow and grow
over time.
When you write your content remember that each page has a main keyword. So before
writing your content check out the keyword you want to be found for.
Another use of your content is article marketing. Use your articles to get backlinks to your
website.
Yes content is king (and Elvis Presley of course).
Design
So you will ask me – Henrik how can design bring me traffic?
It can help you in many ways. Let me just mention a few of them here.
Navigation – most of your viewers will only spend around 10 seconds on your website (check
it out in your analytic – it’s true) so your navigation has to be very clear and clean. If people
can’t find the information he or she is looking for – they are gone before you know it.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 47/89
Bounce rate – Google uses the bounce rate in its search algorithm. So if you can lower your
sites bounce rate you will get higher in Google searches. (By the way when I write Google I
should write search engines right?). If people look at more than one page on your website it
will lower your bounce rate. If they only look at one page it will raise your bounce rate. With
your design you can make it easier to lower your bounce rate – a simple element as a search
bar will lower your bounce rate.
Here you can read about some tips about how to lower your bounce rate.
Comments – we are now in the time of web 2.0 – so let your viewer makes a comment on
your web pages. This will raise the engagement of your potential customers.
Other great elements could be something interactive on your pages. If you are selling
products for saving energy – let people write their energy consumption – before using your
product – and let them see how much they will save.
This will also bring some valuable information to your viewers and some of them will link to
your page. And backlinks are great for your traffic (but more about this later).
Social
Wow – just a few years ago – this element wasn’t in the traffic generating wheel. But the
last couple of years the social element’s importance has just grown and grown.
Most of the social media are not helping you to do-follow backlinks to your website. But in
the end backlinks are not the goal for our site right?
More and more people are using the social networks. The last number I have seen about the
Facebook accounts was that 12 percent of all people in the world (!!!) Have a Facebook
account. And then we have Twitter, Google+ and a lot of other social networks.
If you are serious about your website you will need to engage people on the social networks.
You will have to join the conversation. It doesn’t matter if you are in the B2B or B2C
business.
Take a look at this Infographic about traffic and social media.
Link
Backlinks, backlinks, and backlinks – all SEO people are dreaming about backlinks every
night. So if you wake up an SEO guy in the middle of the night he or she will not tell you
that the dream was about a wonderful trip to a sunny place – no the dream is about
backlinks.
In the old days (read about 2 years back) the do-follow backlinks counted for around 50
percent of a ranking. But Google is constantly changing its algorithm, so it might not be 50
percent anymore – because the social media have a growing importance too. But even if
backlinks importance are 40 percent or 30 percent or 25 percent – its still an important
factor.
So make a plan about how to get yours backlinks. Get some tips and tricks about getting
backlinks here. I have many articles here on Seocustomer.com to give you inspiration about
getting backlinks – it’s not always an easy job I know.
It’s also important that you have both do-follow and no-follow links – Google wants your link
structure to look natural or else they will punish you.
When we are talking links – we also talk external links and internal links on your website.
They are all part of the SEO work.

Conclusion
The wheel is a never stopping process.
You constantly need to review your goals – is a sign up for your newsletter still your goal? Or
maybe you have started to sell on your website? Is it still the same keywords or do you need
new ones?
Get back to your analytic – what is working for you? Should you stop your PPC or maybe
increase your PPC? Your content needs to be kept fresh all the time. Could you help your
viewers with more valuable information?
Is your design out of date? The world of the internet is changing so fast – so even if your
design is only 2 years old it might look old and out of date all ready. It’s time to use the
social networks now – it’s a growing factor in all marketing these days. Backlinks are also a
never ending process – use at least one hour every week to get backlinks your site.
Yes guys – let’s get the traffic generator wheel spinning.
Have a great day out there

Your Ultimate Hashtag Guide
You properly all know what a #hashtag is
right? But do you really know how to work
with #hashtag? What are the best practices?
Let me take you on a rough ride to the
hashtag heaven.
(By the way I am listening to Paul McCartney:
Rough Ride – while writing this article – watch
it on YouTube here)
What is this #hashtag?
The Twitter universe is so huge that it can be
difficult to navigate. But the solution for many
people is hashtags. With hashtags you can get
receive – what you think are – the most
important tweets in an efficient way.
Anybody can make a hashtag – write # in
front of a word in your tweet and you have
made your hashtag. So if I write #SeoCustomer in a tweet I have made a hashtag – easy
right?
Other people on Twitter can use the same hashtag in their own tweets – and this will just
add to the larger conversation about your topic.
A study showed that only around one-third of all tweets is worth reading. There are 340
million tweets every day on Twitter. So this is showing that 266 million tweets shouldn’t have
been tweeted right?
So how do you stand out from the crowd? You will need to find your Twitter voice. Hashtags
are a way to get noticed – but using too many hashtags in one tweet, can also make your
tweet look messy, spammy and nonsensical.
Hashtags is becoming increasingly popular and
you can now even find them in Google+
sphere.
Other sites that support hashtags are:
Diaspora software and social network, All
Gawker Media websites, Orkut, Tumblr, Twitter,
YouTube (2009–2011), Instagram, FriendFeed
(since 2009), Pinterest, Fluidinfo, Catch.com
(as well as mobile apps).
With these hashtags you can connect with
more people and therefor grow your number
of followers and engage more people with your
tweets.
Grab a cup of coffee and read more here…
www.Seocustomer.com Page 50/89
Navigation with hashtags
When you write a hashtag it will appear in red, blue or gray type color. The rest of the tweet
will appear in black.
When people are clicking on a hashtag, it will
send them to the page for that hashtag.
So clicking on a hashtag will not send your
audience to your homepage (if you have a URL
in your tweets), but it’s a way to be found in
the huge Twitter universe (It will send you to a
page with the tweets using that hashtag).
In your “Trends” sidebar, you can see which
hashtags that are the most popular on twitter.
You can also write “#SomethingNice” in the
search bar at the top of the Twitter page, then you will find all the tweets containing this
“#SomethingNice” hashtag.
A lot of people use a program like TweetDeck (1. photo). Here you can set up the screen to
show you difference colonel with a specific hashtag.
Other programs are Monitter (2. photo) and
TwitterFall (3. photo).
How to find the hashtags to use
So which hashtags should you use? There are
many ways to find your perfect hashtags. Let
me tell you about some of them here…
1. Scroll though the twitter feeds from the
people you follow. Here you can get some
great ideas. If they are interested in those hashtags maybe you should be too.
2. Search for hashtags. Go to your search engine and search for “great twitter hashtags” or
“awesome twitter hashtags” or “interesting twitter hashtags” or “cool twitter hashtags” to
get ideas.
3. Go to site that aggregate and share hashtags. These sites can really give you some cool
ideas.
Tools to find your hashtags
Let me show you a couple of great sites where
you can get ideas for hashtags.
But you have to remember, that if a hashtag is
getting trendy it can be even more difficult to
parse though the information stream.
Twubs: Twubs aggregates tweet and it imports
pictures and illuminate the topics that are
being discussed.
Here in the picture I have checked out the
#cafe hashtag.
You can also check out the trends on Twubs. If
www.Seocustomer.com Page 51/89
you have this trend hashtag you know that somebody out there is interested in your topic.
Hashtags.org is really a great tool. It will show you the use over time and the recent tweets.
Here in the picture I was trying to find the use of the hashtag #cafe. I love this.
So what are the best practices with hashtags?
Let me tell you some great tips and tricks about
how to use hashtags most properly.
 Short hashtags please. If you make a hashtag like this:
#SeoCustomerIsTheBestSEOBlogInTheWorld it will not work. It’s much too long and
complicated. So rule number one – it has to be user-friendly for the eye.
 People really don’t like symbols – people like words – so be sure you only use hashtags
sparingly (I will have to check my tweets after I finish with this guide – I think I am using too
many hashtags).
 Relevant hashtags - You hashtags should be relevant to your tweet. If your tweet is
about dogs – don’t make a #cat hashtag.
Ready for more?
 Don’t spam your tweets with hashtags. When I make a tweet about an SEO article I
can use the #SEO hashtag, but also #marketing, #online #business. But in the end it
would leave me with 3, 4 or 5 #hashtags and it will make the tweet look
confusing. Think quality not quantity.
 Promote your hashtags. If you are using your tweets for events or brand you should
promote your hashtag. Let’s say you have a cafe and you always use this hashtag:
#BestCafe. Then promote it everywhere you can. On your homepage, ads, signs. In
your café make some signs telling people to follow your tweets with this hashtag.
This could also engage people to use this take. I should make a #SeoCustomer
hashtag.
 Be persistent. It will take time to build up an audience for your own hashtag. So be
patient and persistent please.
 Make it readable for the eye. Don’t write #bestcafe – instead write #BestCafe.

Well enough about hashtags
I need to redo my own hashtags here. I will make much fewer hashtag in my tweets.

The War On Free Clicks – PPC vs. SEO
How Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads are taking over
Google’s search engine results.
Give us something to think about right?
(See it larger on SeoCustomer.com)
www.Seocustomer.com Page 55/89
How much is a top ranking position worth – PPC
and SEO
We all know that a high position is better
than a low position – both for PPC ads and in
the organic search ranking. But how much
better is a 1st ranking compared to an above
the fold ranking?
Let me show you some of the results of the
correlation between positions and click-
through-rates (CTR).
It can be very difficult to compare the statistic
for a ranking position and for an ad position. I
have found some different studies to show
you the correlation between position and CTR.
The studies are from Optify, Slingshot,
Enquiro, First Rate and AccuraCast.
Organic Position and CTR
Let me show you 3 different studies from 2007, 2011 and 2012. In the latest study from
Optify – you can see that the 1st rank position gets 36 percent of the clicks. While the 2nd
ranking gets only 13 percent and 3rd rank gets 10 percent.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 56/89
This means that you should never stop optimizing your website. It’s no longer enough to be
on the first page if you really want to boost your traffic.
The average CTR rate between being on the 2nd page compare to the 1st page is a factor 6.
So fight for your 1st page ranking position. The first page gets 8.90 percent in CTR while the
2nd page only gets 1.50 percent in average CTR. But check this out – if you are above the
fold you will over double as high CTR (19.50 percent) than just being on the first page
(average of 8.9 percent).
Try to stay on the top with all the new SEO best practices and updates.
PPC Positions and CTR
When you are doing Google Adwords or other PPC ads your position also matters a lot.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 57/89
The imagine shows 2 different studies – one from 2010 and one for 2009. The 2010 study
from First Rate really tells you to stay in the top 2 – if you want to boost your CTR.
So you will have to choose your target keywords carefully, so you can make it to a top 2.
Remember also that the CTR has an impact on the Quality Score – and therefore also on the
click price for your ads on Google.
Head Term or Long Tail Term and CTR
In the study from Optify – they have defined Head Term as “… Keywords with over 1,000
monthly searches (Google US)” and Long Tail Terms as “… Keywords with less than 100
monthly searches (Google US)”.
The graph shows that a Head Terms get higher CTR for the position one than a Long Tail
Term. But it also shows that if you are optimizing for a Head Term you will not see your
benefits until you are getting into the top 5 positions.
If – on the other hand – you are optimizing for a Long Tail Term you will see some great CTR
on every position on page one. The average CTR (on page one) for a Head Term is 4.6
percent CTR while an average CTR for the Long Tail Term is 9 percent.
So the impact for you if you are optimizing for a long tail term is to get your page to page
one in the search engine. Don’t worry too much about getting to the top 2. And – all other
things equal – it should be easier for you to get work with a Long Tail Term and therefor
more valuable for you.
So what is your strategy – Head Term or Long Tail Term?

3 images strategies to boost your traffic
Do you use imagines in an active way on your
website? With images you have the
opportunity to really drive people to your site.
But are you optimizing your images for the
search engines right now?
Images are a way to get attention from the
eye. We all look at images before we start
reading the text. So when somebody clicks on
a link to your website – the first thing that the
visitor will see is an image. So the question is
– are you using this in an optimal way?
Our computers and internet are getting faster
and faster so it is getting easier to load the
imagines too. Some years back a visitor might
have to wait a looooooong time before the
page was loaded. Still we have to make sure
we are not using a 20 MB image right? So
remember to compress your images to the
precise size.
So are you ready for an image journey? Do you have hot coffee in your cup?
1 – Optimize your images for people not search engines
I really hate to say this – because I love everything about SEO – but SEO is never a goal for
a website. The goal is to sell a product, maybe a sign up for a newsletter or maybe a
download. The goal is never SEO.
So when we are optimizing an image remember there are people out there looking at it. Let
me present some good rules of thumbs:
 Keep them relevant – the images must be relevant to the headline and text
 Big is beautiful – an image helps the reader, it will show what the text is about and it
will break up the text to make it more readable.
 Choose high quality images where people can see a clear image with details
 Optimize for the RSS feed – when somebody is using RSS feeds from your site – it
gives them an opportunity to quickly scan through the content. An image will help
you to create attention for a text.
 Images make us remembering a page on a website.
 Faces – when we look people we look at the faces first – this is an eye fixation. So
remember that faces will get attention in an image.
 Get more ideas from heat maps here from Business Insider (You will see some
differences between men and women).
2 – Optimize your pictures for search engines
Yes – I know I just said you have to optimize your images for people – but you still have to
optimize your images for the search engines.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 62/89
So here are some rules of thumbs you can use:
 Not too many images on a page – choose a few relevant images for a text per page.
The number of images depends on the length of the text and the content.
 Use your keywords – remember to tag the image with your keyword for the page.
You can use the keywords in the ALT text, in the filename of the image (no spaces in
your filename but use dashes between words) in the text just around the image and
page title
 Descriptions – write a long description for your image. This way when people are
searching for something very specific your picture will show up as a very relevant
image.
 Image freshness – many SEO gurus suggest re-uploading your images to keep them
fresh. Nobody wants to look at 5 years old pictures – and the search engines think
the same way.
3 – Optimize for social media
Images are the most shared content in the social media network. So this gives you an
opportunity to really boost your traffic.
 Amazing images – if the image is something special people will share it. But the
question is what makes an image something special? You can get inspired here – the
45 most powerful photos of 2011
 Think – evoke emotions, tickle the funny bone, surprise and make people curious. You
can read more about it here and get more ideas.
 Use standard formats – the most used formats in social media are JPG, GIF and PNG.
No reason to use other formats – preferring JPG.
 Publish your images on social networks – yes (of course) you have to publish your
images on the social networks, so you can make it easy for people to share them
there too. So go to your Google+, Facebook and Twitter accounts and publish your
picture. Yes you can publish images on Twitter too.
 Use photo sites – you can use photos sharing sites like Flickr (Flickr is reported to
help in Yahoo! Image optimization), Pinterest (I love this one), Picassa, Instagram,
TwitPic (for Twitter), Photobucket. This way you will make it easy for people to share
the image.
 If you want a Digg thumb nailed submission you will have to use (or make sure it can
be resized to) 160×120 or 160×160 pixels.
 Did you notice I am using a Pinterest plugin for this website? When you put your
mouse on a picture you can right away pin it on Pinterest.
Well now I have to choose some relevant pictures for this article hmm. I hope you like the
picture – it is relevant.

YouTube Ranking Factors
We are always talking about Google when we
are talking about search engines right?
But do you know that YouTube is the second
largest search engine?
And do you know which ranking factors
YouTube is using?
YouTube Statistic 2012
This statistic is from the official YouTube statistic:
 Over 800 million unique users visit YouTube each month
 Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube
 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US
 YouTube is localized in 43 countries and across 60 languages
 In 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every
person on Earth
 Amazing right?
YouTube Ranking Factors
Here are some of the ranking factors. Sometimes a picture is better than many words.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 66/89
www.Seocustomer.com Page 67/89
Action from users
 The number of views is of course important
 Audience retention but the absolute (which depend on the length of your video) and
the relative (compared to other videos with the same length as yours).
 The reactions from your user – do you get any comments on your video and how
many? What are the reactions (good or bad), how many numbers of thumbs up or
down do you get? How many favorites and video responses do you get? And how
many people are adding your video to a playlist? This is all telling YouTube about
reactions from your users.
 Social Sharing – social sharing is also an important factor – how many shares do you
get from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and others.
 How many people will embed your video – both the number and Page Ranks of the
sites that embed your video?
 You can also have a website that links to your video without the embed codes.
YouTube Channel
 Authority – you can build authority with the channel title, the channel keywords and
description. Also link to your homepage, channels that are related to yours and make
a playlist including title, keywords and description.
 Trust – Make your visitors trust your channel. The age of your channel is important,
the number of subscribers, the number of channel views and the views of all your
uploaded video. You can also connect your YouTube channel to your Google+ profile
(YouTube is owned by Google)
 Frequency – this is about activity. How active are you? How often do you log into
your account? Do some ratings and comments on other videos than just your own,
answer questions and comments, how often do you upload a new video? Remember
to be active on your YouTube channel.
On the video upload
 Keywords – remember to tag your video with your main keywords and description,
don’t be afraid to use outgoing links to relevant sites too, use the annotation and
video transcript.
 Quality and Freshness – keep your video fresh. Well you could upload your video
again after 1 year to keep it fresh and if it’s still relevant to your viewers. Quality is a
key factor for your audience and maybe not for the ranking – but we all love quality
right?
 Thumbnail – this is more important than you might think because it will influence
your click rates in YouTube search results (the results to the right of a YouTube video
page). Usually you really can’t influence that but be sure to choose the best version)

Negative SEO Awareness
To become an SEO you need to learn how to
optimize a website the right way.
There’s no quick and easy way in SEO and those
who practice negative SEO don’t realize the essence
of SEO.
I routinely receive emails from various people for
link advertisement and know that those links will
not help me as irrelevant links from spammy
looking sites are useless in today’s SEO game.
Most newbie SEOs will fall for those useless and
probably harmful links and unknowingly fall to the
dark side. Here’s the email the I received (see
below).
Negative SEO spammers sell their spammy services
to people with little SEO knowledge, who generally
know enough to be dangerous.
I’ve seen two different types of spammers or
negative SEO – spammers that sell their services and spammers that break your website
with spammy, unrelated links pointing to it.
My objective in writing this article is to give the SEO community an awareness of malicious
and spammy SEO.
.edu links
Ever say, “I’m going to get tons of .edu backlinks from this cheap, online service to make
sure that my website will rank number 1 in Google”? Check with the Penguin about that.
Even now there are still people who are practicing these . I found this ad on fiverr:
www.Seocustomer.com Page 69/89
If it were that easy to get .edu backlinks, then they wouldn’t carry any value and wouldn’t
help with increasing rank. Within weeks they drop away so even if they do get indexed, then
won’t last long. That ad is more a joke and waste of money than positive SEO.
Here’s an article about how spammers tend to populate his comment section. He figured out
that his blog is number one for the search command [seo site:.edu inurl:blog "post a
comment"] and most of his traffic are spammers. This is an example of a .edu blog article
that has been spammed for backlinks.
Here’s another one, I think they have an auto approve blog comment system which allows
spammers to comment then drops off a link. Here’s the blog post:
I really hate to see irrelevant comments on my blog but after reading a couple of comments
from this post I realized how stupid spammers are and also the webmaster of this site. Here
I’ll share some irrelevant blog comments from this blog:
www.Seocustomer.com Page 70/89
What’s up with that name? What’s up with that stupid comment? As you can see the
comments are not related to the blog post. Most webmasters would tend to trash your
comments if you put keywords in your name instead of your actual name. So while blog
commenting, it’s better to put a name rather than your keywords to avoid being seen as
spam.
So be aware of negative SEO and avoid doing those negative practices. Go for organically
made links and contextual links when link building. That would keep you from getting
penalized by search engines and increase your rankings the right way.

How to Use Instagram as a Marketing Tool and
to Boost Your Social Presence
There are new social sites coming up every few
months, Instagram is one of the newest ones and it
has just received its 80 millionth member.
It is also one of the social sites that are quickly
becoming popular with companies or public figures
who are looking to connect with their fans.
It operates on the same basis as Twitter where
people are able to follow any person they are
interested in.
Instagram is a marketing method that many
individuals and companies are adopting to help
create awareness. Here are some tips on what you
need to do to increase the number of followers you
have.
1. Post newsworthy and interesting content
This is probably obvious to most of the users of Instagram. The truth of the matter is that
only interesting content should be posted for viewership. Anything less than that will be a
disservice to yourself and your followers.
The aim of being on Instagram is to get noticed and if this is what you are after, then post
things that are of interest to other people. Something that will generate a buzz so to speak.
Always think about your audience before you post.
Unless you are someone famous who will get hits and comments regardless of what you put
up. An approach that works is that one of putting yourself in the shoes of your follower.
Think of yourself as one of your followers and see the picture you are about to post from
their point of view. If you saw it and would not like it and quickly skip it to view the next one,
that is probably a good enough reason for you not to post your content to begin with.
It is better to put one picture that makes a huge impression that posting a million of them
that make no impact.
2. Geo-tag photos and content that you put up
The application allows individuals to put up details of where the picture or pictures were
taken. If you want to get more followers in Instagram, ensure that you always post a picture
accompanied by details about where the picture was taken.
When you include the location of where the picture was taken, it will grouped together with
every other photo available that was taken in that same location and that means other
people who uploaded their geo mapped photos will be able to view yours as well.
There is a high chance that they will follow you since you visit the same places they do. If
you have not been doing this already, then start now. It is never too late to start.
www.Seocustomer.com Page 72/89
3. Like and Comment
You can’t expect to get noticed if you yourself do not notice the work of others. If you want
to increase the number of your followers on Instagram, ensure that you like other people’s
photos.
Do this especially for pictures that are most popular with the rest of the users. Narrow down
your liking to pictures that are relevant to you though. Liking every picture that is posted will
give people the impression that you are a serial liker so to speak. You don’t want to seem
that way.
That’s the reason why you should like and comment with caution. Pick the ones that
resonate with you and your interests. Much as liking every picture you see will lead to some
people following you, be careful and pick followers that rank high on the Instagram platform.
If you like such posts, you are likely to get followed by serious individuals.
4. Use Hash Tags
Just like the Twitter platform, you can attach hash tags to every picture that you put up.
Many people who are prowling the Instagram platform often search for content they are
looking for by looking for a particular hash tag. Kind of like how people type in particular
keywords on a search engine to find what they are looking for.
It may seem like a tedious affair attaching tags to every post you put but it is well worth the
effort when all is said and done. It is by far the most effective tool for getting noticed on
Instagram.
More so when you are not very familiar with how Instagram works. Ensure that every hash
tag you use has a relation to what the image on the picture is trying to portray. It doesn’t
hurt to be creative when using this very effective tool.
If you set a trend then you are obviously going to get more followers.
5. Promote Yourself On All Platforms
Use other social network platforms to market yourself. If you already have a large following
there, let them know that you are now using Instagram and urge or coerce them to follow
you there. Make yourself known by putting yourself out there.
Steve writes for Buy Instagram Followers – a website designed to help boost your Instagram likes and
Instagram profile artificially.

You want a targeted, focused customer base, who spot your link easily, click on it quickly, and stay on your web pages for a long time. Fast Every business needs to make pay per click part of their digital marketing campaign. The more you are in a hurry to skyrocket your business on the fast track as soon as possible, the more you need to look at pay per click options. Why? It takes time, at least a few months, before most major search engines can index a new site and then you can move up in the search engine rankings for major keyword terms in your field. (Of course the more you use search engine optimization techniques the quicker this will happen but there are many factors involved.) In the meantime, pay per click search engines have multiple benefits including that they can jump start you right way, attracting searches to your new website before it’s fully indexed and optimized completed for the major web search engines. Take me to the top, Baby In this day and age, when nobody looks past the first pages and often people only look at the first six or seven listings, every listing you go up can mean more customers, and more reoccurring dollars in your pocket. They are extremely cost-effective because you can decide on the rate that you are
  • 10. www.Seocustomer.com Page 10/89 willing to pay for each click for the keywords that you chose. Some rates can be as low as a penny per word. 3. You are going to get a huge return on investment. You will be able to visibly track your progress and see your returns. Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, MSN/BING PPC, and Facebook PPC are the biggest Pay Per Click Search Engines. They are going to be more costly but worth the expense. • 11. www.Seocustomer.com Page 11/89 Mobile Marketing for Local Business One of the mayor trends in marketing 2012 is mobile marketing. According to the research company ComScore there are over 100 million Smartphone subscribers in the US (January 2012). So the question is – how can your local business use mobile marketing to make more sales. I will show you 3 easy ways to get in contact with theses 100 million people. To make a great mobile marketing strategy we have to know how people are using their Smartphones.  Text Messaging 92%  Taking Photos 92%  Internet Browsing 84%  Emailing 76%  Downloading Apps 69%  Gaming 64%  Social Networking 60%  Navigating 55%  Watching Video 54%  Tweeting 15%  Checking-In 12% Social Media Mobile 59 percent of all users of Smartphones use it for their social media like Facebook. 15 percent use it to tweeting. So your business has to get a business page on Facebook and make some tweets on twitter. Most of the social networks are offering ads connected to the geographical location. So you can promote your hairdresser salon to the people in a specific zip code. You can also target all females from 20 – 30 years old, in a specific zip code. Use the mobile ad for Geo targeting your audience. This will help you to drive more traffic to your physical shop.
  • 12. www.Seocustomer.com Page 12/89 Use Coupons A very simple but effective way using mobile marking is to create mobile coupons. In a survey from 2012, the Smartphone owners were asked, how they were receiving different types of mobile advertising. The results were very interesting for local businesses. The Smartphone owners were most interested in receiving grocery coupons (36%), 29% would like scanable barcode, 26% would like offers to save and pursue at leisure, 26% movie theater offers and finally 21% would like ads via SMS from a retailer with a promotion or coupon (published by Compete.com). Yes you read correct! 21% would like to get an SMS from a retailer with a promotion/coupon. That’s 1 in 5 Smartphone owners. Amazing. So it’s not really surprising that retail-oriented mobile marketing technologies like coupons and barcodes are the first technologies to reach the consumer. Use your social networks like Facebook and Twitter to drive your audience to your mobile landing page, where they can get a mobile coupon. An old fashion SMS can drive people to your mobile site too. Let them show you the coupon in your physical shop. Do You Have a Mobile Site? When more and more people using their Smartphones to access the internet, you might have to consider creating a specific mobile site. IDC reports show that the Smartphone market in the 4th quarter of 2012 – up 87% from the year before – was beating the PC sales for the first time. People can do business with your from their Smartphones. Most of the “normal” websites are very difficult to use with a Smartphone. Some websites will not even upload correct on a Smartphone. You will have to make the mobile browsing a good experience for your potential customers. Because the screen on a Smartphone is much smaller

  • 14. www.Seocustomer.com Page 14/89 What Users Expect from Your Facebook Fanpage Design? Visitors have a lot of expectations from Facebook Fanpage design. Businesses can pamper fans with more interactive features, great deals, special offers, and mini sites on the page. A Facebook Fanpage can be created by a designer having knowledge of web technologies. Then, have you ever pondered what it has to offer to its fans? And what are their expectations from it? These are the questions that you should ask before creating a Facebook Fanpage design. It should be not be designed for the sake of it. There should be a purpose. In this article, we will have a look at the expectations of users from your Fanpage. Let’s have a read… More Interactive Features You have designed it for attracting the attention of your visitors, and therefore it should not be passive. It is great to look at a big welcome message, but modern users want some activity. They are keener on doing something interesting when they land up on your business Fanpage. It is all about sharing content intelligently. Consider yourself as an online toy seller. You can make use of a splash image having the link to your photo album page where users can upload pictures of their kid’s favorite toys. Also provide a link on the splash image that directs visitors to your products page. This is a smart marketing campaign that allows fans to do some activity, as well as make them acquainted with your products, i.e. the toys. Offer Interesting Deals ! The success of it depends on how smartly you can push engaging content. Yes, fans like viewing content that rouses their interest. This is one reason many businesses as part of their Facebook page customization strategy keep users informed by offering lucrative deals or discounts. You might be asking how they go about it. Through their status updates! Fans also like to be pampered with new visuals and engaging content. The best way to do it is by offering unique offers on your custom-made tab. It is not that difficult as you perceive it to be. You can include an appropriate splash image that will boast of your exclusive offers. This form of promotion should be included in your updates. You simply have to tweak the photo on the fan page so that visitor’s attention is diverted towards your products or services. Every time a user lands on your page, he will get to know of your products or offers. In other words, it will make the page look new if regularly updated with new and exciting deals. Mini Sites in Fan Pages Yes, there are some companies that walk the extra mile as far as Fanpage design is concerned. An ideal way to attract more user attention is by including mini-sites into your Fanpage. This point can be explained with an example. You can add rich multimedia related content under a tab ‘Fan’s Zone’. It can allure visitors with videos, photos or events related to your company. You can make use of Flash to make such mini-sites more interactive. However, make sure that you

  • 16. www.Seocustomer.com Page 16/89 SEO the Beatles Way We all know there are two kinds of people right? Those who love the Beatles and those who are lying. But The Beatles is much more than great music, culture and old history. The Beatles is also SEO. Let me take you down memory lane and show you how The Beatles can help your search engine optimization. So here it is – SEO The Beatles way. T – Stands for Trust Trust are one of the most important elements in the Google Ranking Algorithm. So you will have to build trust to your site. The domain age is an important factor which is difficult to do anything about. But you can do a lot of other things. Registration information – in general there is more trust to a public registration than a private registration. So a .Gov or .Org name will have more trust than a .Biz or .Com. Physical address. Write your physical address on your site – this will also help your trust by your viewers. Privacy policy. If you have any web form where you are collecting data you should have a well written privacy policy and use some secure data transfer (like SSL Certificate) and tell your viewers that you are using it. If you see my web form – you will see that it says “We respect your email privacy” and you can read more. FAQ page. A FAQ page will also help you increase the trust of your site. Who links to you and who do you link to? If a spammy site links to you, you will lose some trust. But it’s also true the other way around. If you link to a spammy site – the search engines will mark your site as less important in the search rankings. Read more about how to build trust to your site here. H – Stands for HTML You will have to optimize your site thinking of your HTML. This is an on page optimization. So be sure you have the right title for your page. Remember to use your keyword in the title. Make a description for your page – again your keyword is important. You will find your description here. <head> <meta name=”description” content=”This is an example of a meta description. This will often show up in search results.”> </head> Meta descriptions can be very lengthy – but the search engines generally don’t show more than 160 characters. So keep it between 150 and 160 characters.
  • 17. www.Seocustomer.com Page 17/89 It’s no more a ranking factor but it will show up on the result page. So you will have to make the browser so curious so the person will have to click on your link. The Beatles can show you much more. Are you ready for more? E – Stands for Elements on your homepage You will have to be careful about the elements on your page. Especially if you are thinking of doing a redesign of your home page. You might consider how you can make a redesign of your homepage so you can generate more leads than you do now. There are a lot of critical elements you need to incorporate into your homepage. You need to tell your customers about their benefits from buying your product. But most of the people on the internet will only spend up to 10 second on a homepage before going to another page. So you will have to be very clear about your design. You might say that this is not a ranking factor – but it is. A very simple example is the bounce rate. The bounce rate is a ranking factor – and with the elements on your site you can lower your bounce rate. If you put a search bar on your homepage – a lot of people will search – and will see another page then the landing page and that will automatically lower your bounce rate. Amazing right? Get a lot of other great tips and tricks here about elements on your homepage. B – Stands for Backlinks Getting somebody to link to your site is the single most important ranking factor for search engines like Google or Bing. It’s all about getting some link juice to your site – to show the search engines that your site is a great site. Here you have some ideas for building backlinks. There have been a lot of talk about the differences and benefits of dofollow links and nofollow links for search engine optimization. Of course it’s good with dofollow because you will get the link juice from one site to the other site. But what about nofollow links. The nofollow links were created by Google. The idea was that Google would not follow the link to crawl its content. So all this means that you will not get any link juice if a website makes a nofollow link to your site right? But you will still get attention and some traffic from the link. And to make your backlinks look natural you got to have both kinds of backlinks. Building backlinks can be a very time consuming process. You will have to search for relevant tropic, contact the sit site owner, maybe do some guest blogging, article marketing or do some commenting on blogs. Here you can read more about how to get high quality backlinks to your site.
  • 18. www.Seocustomer.com Page 18/89 E – Stands for Error check This might be one of the most overlooks SEO techniques. You can submit your site, sitemap and RSS feed to the Google Webmaster Tools. After you have submitted it – Google will find any errors or other issues your site might have. And you will have to correct the mistakes. Well that was it. It’s really that simple. A – Stands for Architecture The architecture of your site is important too. Is it possible for the search engines to crawl your site? If it’s not possible to crawl – the rest of all your SEO doesn’t really matter. How fast is your site? If it’s too slow your visitors will leave your site before it is finished loading. And remember to check your URL structure. Check both the structure and the names. Do you have some logical categories? And remember to use your keywords in the URL names. Start at the bottom of the SEO pyramid and work your way up. Read more about the SEO pyramid here. T – Stands for Time In the old marketing days people were saying that the customer was king. Now people are saying content is king. Maybe they are both right. But with the SEO I will say Time is king. SEO is not working today or tomorrow. It’s a slow process. You might get some results in 3 or 4 weeks or maybe 2 or 3 months from now. So it’s important that you give it time to work. It’s just like building a brand. It takes time. How can people trust your product if they don’t know your name. How can the search engines trust and like your site if they don’t know it. If you are working with backlinks you will know that it takes time too. It’s an ongoing process. L – Stands for Links So you will say – hey Henrik you have told us about backlinks already – why do you keep on talking about links? Well it’s because links are so important. And remember to work with your internal links too. Build some links with your keywords in the anchor text. This is an on page optimization – so this will be easier than the off page optimization. Here I will give you some more tips and tricks about link building. E- Stands for Education SEO is constantly changing. Every year Google changes its search algorithm up to 500-600 times. So it’s important to keep up to date with SEO. Read all about the Google changes here. Read the news, blogs, and magazines. (And remember to stay in touch with www.SeoCustomer.com).
  • 19. www.Seocustomer.com Page 19/89 Right now you can join our brand new group on LinkedIn. You can find us here on LinkedIn. S – Stands for Social Social media is becoming more and more important these days. Ranking is the search engines way to compare your websites to your competitor’s website for a specific keyword right? But living in the age of the social and personalize web. Google and other search engines will know you more and more. And it will give you a very personalize and local result for you. If you are searching for coffee – Google already knows you have a good friend who you talk with on the net 4 times a week and his best friend has a coffee shop half a mile from you. So of course Google will show you that shop at the top of the ranking. So if you think of the SEO as a stand-alone industry – you have to redefine your thinking. The baby Social Media is here to stay – or at least for a very long time. Here are my top 10 social media tips: 1. Go for platforms with the most users – like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ 2. Look into your competitors’ activities 3. Identify your objectives 4. Create content 5. Allow social sharing 6. Refrain from making it all about YOU 7. Participate actively 8. Use headlines – create eye/catching and interesting titles 9. Publish events 10. Create a network Read more about social networks here. Conclusion So didn’t I tell you? The Beatles is much more than just great music and culture. And by the way I hope you did hear some Beatles music while you were reading this article. So a big thanks to Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. “You say goodbye and I say hello….” Have a great day out there. Best regards, Henrik

  • 22. www.Seocustomer.com Page 22/89 Are Your Targeted Keywords Still Working? Keep the traffic coming to your website with fresh keywords. Do you know this situation – you are writing great content for your website or blog, you are posting new articles every week and you have optimized your website for your keywords and do social media sharing – your traffic is going down and your traffic doesn’t stay a long time on your site. At least once a year you have to check out your targeted keywords. This is a way to really blast your targeted traffic with fresh keywords. The Internet and the way people are searching keep changing all the time. So remember to stay on your toes. So how should you check it and fix your target keywords? Check out your keywords The success of your keywords is depending on your own website, how people are searching on the internet and the competition for the word. So let’s check it out. Your website What do you want to be found on? What kind of product do you offer and what are your values? This is not so easy as it sounds. When you know your values and products try to read your copy. Do you communicate your values and product offers? You will never get found on your targeted keywords if your website doesn’t have original great content about you’re your main subject. So be sure your keywords are relevant for your business. Searching on the Internet Next step is to check if people are searching for the keywords you are picking. Let’s say your main keyword phrase is “high quality cars”. (Yes a wired example but it’s the best I could find). Go to Google Keyword Tool and check out the traffic for your local or global market.
  • 23. www.Seocustomer.com Page 23/89 I just found that there were only 5.400 searches for this phrase every month. But if you pick “quality cars” you will have 60.500 searches. So you can get in touch with many more potential customers using this keyword phrase. Competition for the keyword Okay you might have the perfect keyword for your website and a lot of potential traffic – but what about the competition? If all the pages showing on page 1 on Google or the other search engines are difficult to beat you still have a problem getting the traffic your great content deserve. There is a lot of great software around where you can check the competition. Google Keyword Tool. It’s a great tool. With Google Keyword Tool you can see if a competition is high, medium or low – but it’s not the competition for the PPC and not the SEO words (I just learned that ). But you can check it out using software like “Market Samurai”. It’s not a free program, but it can help you save a lot of time. (They have a 12 day free trial program – and some of the features are still working after the 12 days). In general the programs help you to check out these elements. • PageRank • Age of the domain in years • Number of backlinks of the page • Number of backlinks of the entire domain/site • Number of backlinks coming from .edu and .gov domains • If listed in DMOZ • If listed in the Yahoo Directory • If a keyword is included on the Title page • If the keyword is mentioned on the site/page description • If the H1 tag on the page contains the keyword • Age in days of Google’s cached version of the page • Number of sites linking to domain from country (TLD) of the initial search Conclusion Remember to check out your keywords at least once a year. Maybe it’s time to rethink them and the some fresh keywords for your site. Remember that the traffic is constantly changing

  • 25. www.Seocustomer.com Page 25/89 How small businesses can use mobile marketing Mobile marketing is all the rage these days, and there are an infinite number of ways a small business can capitalize on it. Mobile marketing has many meanings and variations, but the most common these days is marketing via a mobile device like a cell phone or iPad device. The point of mobile marketing is to advertise your small business through the use of applications, text messages, and any other combination of digital sounds, texts and images in order to reach a potential customer wherever they may be. These days, advertising is a whole different ballgame, and the traditional forms of advertising- while still effective- are becoming obsolete, as the internet and mobile technology have made it easier for small businesses to control all of their marketing on their own, without the use of a middleman (like a print newspaper, flyers, billboards, radio and television.) Not only is marketing cheaper with the advent of mobile marketing in the digital age, but in many ways it is also cheaper and more efficient. With mobile marketing, it is also easier to track how effective the marketing campaign actually is, because you can receive real time data as it becomes available. Now, you can know how many people have seen the marketing advertisements, and how many have actually followed through with the call to action in the marketing campaign. 1. SMS Marketing SMS marketing is probably the most efficient and effective way to harness the power of mobile marketing for a small business. Essentially how SMS marketing works, is that a customer will sign-up for a sort of newsletter, which then will be sent to their phone via text messaging. At the very least, SMS marketing can resemble cold calling, except that the customer has to opt in first and provide their cell phone number in order for it to work, and, it’s the very most, SMS marketing is a great way to stay in touch with past and present customers, and may be effective in attracting new ones to your small business. Studies have shown that more than 90% of SMS marketing messages are opened up and viewed within the first 5 minutes of sending them, so if done correctly, this can be a huge asset for any small business owner. 2. Google it up Google is one of the greatest resources for any small business. The best way to utilize Google is to take advantage of the Google Places app, to make sure your business is high-up in Google search inquiries and to use their advertising model in order to offer customers deals, coupons and other special perks via Google.
  • 26. www.Seocustomer.com Page 26/89 3. QR Codes With the dissemination of Smartphones, having a QR code can be very beneficial. These will allow a customer to scan a barcode-like object with their Smartphone, which can access special deals and coupons relating to your business- or guide them to your business’ web page. • 27. www.Seocustomer.com Page 27/89 Design to Sell – 5 Tips for Your Design When you design your website you will have to be creative. But a good looking website alone will not help you to sell your products or service. You will have to convert your visitors to buyers. Let me show you 5 great tips for better conversion. I love everything about SEO – but if I get a lot of visitors to my site – and they don’t buy anything it really doesn’t matter. I need to convert visitors to buyers. No matter if you want your visitors to sign up for your newsletter, download a PDF or to buy a product. So I let introduce you to some marketing techniques you can use when you are designing your website. Prevent Choice Paralysis This phenomenon is very useful to know about. Don’t give your audience too many choices to choose between. To give a choice is great. But don’t overuse it. You will confuse the buyer. If you confuse the buyer they might just leave you right away. Make it easy to be a visitor on your site. If you want your visitors to sign up for a newsletter (I want that on my site here) be sure you have a visible call to action. If you are writing about a product tell which one of the choices you like the most. With your design you can make your suggestion product picture bigger than the other ones. Make it with another background picture. There is no doubt that SEOmoz wants you to buy the PRO version of its program right. They are telling you want to do. Just by using different colors. And you only get 3 choices. Subliminal Suggestion Have you heard of this before? It was a big hit in marketing a few years back. But you can still use some of the elements. Newer research shows that it really didn’t help that much anyway and most of the sneak messages were eliminated. A very famous example that everybody is still talking about is about a hidden ad picture in a movie, and suddenly everybody in the cinema wanted to buy that product. Well this wasn’t
  • 28. www.Seocustomer.com Page 28/89 true I have heard. But you know – the advertising industry is still using some subliminal messaging, and you can use it for your website design too. Today, you can meet subliminal messaging for personal development, when trying to stop smoking and a lot of weight loss aids. You can still buy theses CDs and DVDs commercially. When you are choosing your pictures for your website, you must think about what kind of messages the pictures are sending. Choose pictures that embody your message or feeling. Don’t just use the first picture you find – think carefully about your use of pictures. No stock photos (please). You get 2 different feelings here right with the bikes. One picture is selling adventure the other picture is just selling a bike. What kind of messages do you want to send to your visitors? Show the Product Out in the real world (yes you can still sell products in the real world I am told) you can see and touch the products. Sometimes you can smell it too. In fact I am sitting right now eating strawberries – I can taste them, smell them (I tell you they are awesome). But how do you want to sell strawberries on the internet. Well show your product. We can’t make smell (well I have read about a way to do that on the internet too – but that’s another post) so we will have to show the product. Maybe make a video. What about a 360 degree photo. A lot of companies selling software forget to show the product or the screen dumps. Show it – show lots of pictures. Often people are making their judgments based on how the product looks like. Appearance is important – it’s an indicator of a product’s usability. This is also known as the aesthetic- usability effect. This product is Rank Tracker. But the company has shown it in a kind of physical box. A great way to show a virtual product right?
  • 29. www.Seocustomer.com Page 29/89 Design and let People Try It It is becoming more and more popular to let people try the product. Maybe try it for free 30 days or a limited version of the product. People will get used to the product and after the trial period they just need to have it right? If you want the full version you will have to buy it. This is really a great way for software products to sell. I know – this is not a design element. But you can still get a lot of conversions. And get your sale. Aweber which is newsletter software (I use this software – awesome) has a sign up for just 1 dollars and the first month free. Then you will get your first sign ups with this program – so why change after 1 month?
  • 30. www.Seocustomer.com Page 30/89 Design by the Gutenberg Rule I love this rule. The Gutenberg rule. Johannes Gutenberg was a German blacksmith, printer, publisher who introduced printing in Europe. His invention of mechanical movable type printing started the Printing Revolution (Wikipedia). If you haven’t heard of him – go and check him out. The theory is that a reader uses his mental path when he is viewing a design. This is called reading gravity. Here in the western world we read from left to right and top to bottom. So with this knowledge we can make the Gutenberg diagram. So we read a page or design from “Primary Optical Focus” and end up in the “Terminal Area”. This is why it’s good to have a call to action in the bottom right instead of the bottom left. Let me show you an example here. Market Samurai (great program about finding the right keywords) has a free trial for download. Remember now we are talking about elements. Of course you can use colors and pictures to control your readers’ eyes too. 13 elements your home page must have Go and check out this post too about 13 elements your home page must have. • 31. www.Seocustomer.com Page 31/89 The Good, the Bad and the Average – PPC Strategy “The average tyrannies“ have you ever heard of that? Let's say that we have 5 men who all are 2 meter tall – and 5 men who are 1.80 meter tall. Then you will tell say that the average height is 1.90 meter – right? The problem is that nobody is really 1.90 meters tall in this group of men. “The tyranny of averages is a phrase used in applied statistics to describe the often overlooked fact that the mean does not provide any information about the distribution of a data set or skewness, and that decision or analysis based on this value—as opposed to the median and standard deviation—may be faulty” (from Wikipedia). The average PPC In PPC you will have an average of – let’s say – 10 dollars per conversion in 2011. But you will have some months doing much better and month doing lots worse. Maybe your product is a product that is only really interested in the summertime – even though people might click on your ads all year around. So maybe your conversion rate in the summertime is only 1 dollar. Most of the time your conversion rate is not average – it’s always better or worse than the average. My PPC campaigns are bad…? But with a conversion rate of 10 dollars you are losing money – so your boss or your client tells you to stop advertising on Google Adwords or other PPC search engines. Big Mistake! You should stop advertising from October to May – and spend the entire budget in the summertime instead. The lesson to learn here is to dig deeper than the average number. The average number is for the executive summary. So of course you need average numbers – but you will make a big mistake if you only focus on the averages. Check out the worst and best performing keywords and ads – Why are they performing bad/well? Is there some kind of characteristics about them? Remember to check out the hour performance, is the weekend better, seasoning etc. You average might look fine for some of your campaigns – but they still might be doing a bad job half of the time. So take your time to dig deeper. An example of the average tyrannies is this one. I had an ad that was doing average. I was checking it once a week. The next week it was really going down. The problem was that the client had deleted the landing page. So I was sending thousands of people to an non exciting page every day.
  • 32. www.Seocustomer.com Page 32/89 If I had been more careful and not trusted the average I would have discovered that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were great. And after that 0 conversion. • 34. www.Seocustomer.com Page 34/89 What Elvis Can Learn Us about SEO The other day I had an article about SEO the Beatles Way. - So I was thinking, if The Beatles could learn us something – what about Elvis – the king himself. So put on some music from the king while reading this article – deal? Elvis wasn’t the best singer or musician in the 50s. He wasn’t the best dancer. I think what made him great was his passion. He was maybe the most passionate one that has ever lived. He didn’t just stand still singing his music; he was jumping around, moving his hips. His body language was huge. He shows facial expression. His passion was so huge that 50.000.000 people couldn’t be wrong in 1959. So ask yourself – what passion are you bringing to your website? How do you write about your product or service – plain and boring? With passion? Don’t write like a robot – remember you are writing to people. Even if you are writing in the B2B market – you are still writing to people. What makes your product different? Why is it the best product in the world? Why should people buy it from you? Do you think that writing with passion will help the sale? Well I think so. Bring passion to your website. The 10.000 hour rule is king Another rule we can learn from Elvis (and also The Beatles) is the 10.000 hour rule – have you heard of this rule? Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book in 2008 called “Outliers: The Story of Success”. Caldwell examines which factors that contributes to a high level of success. He was checking out ice hockey players who were born in the first months of the calendar year (they would play more than the people born later in a year), Bill Gates and The Beatles. The Beatles were playing songs in Liverpool and Hamburg for years before getting famous – yes they had 10.000 hours of practical training before make it in 1963. And so did Elvis – he was singing, learning the guitar years before getting famous too. And after making his first records he went out playing lots and lots of concert – and he was getting better all the time.

  • 38. www.Seocustomer.com Page 38/89 How You Get the Easiest and Highest Quality Backlinks Fast We all know it’s not easy getting our high quality backlinks. The high quality backlinks are do-follow backlinks from pages which have content almost like ours. You can get backlinks from a lot of social sites – like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – but most of them are no-follow. There are 2 groups that I advise all B2B companies to start getting backlinks from – Customers and suppliers. If you are a B2C company you can still get backlinks from suppliers’ websites. So how do you get these backlinks? Don’t just write them an e-mail asking them for a backlink – most of the time this will not work. 1. Start building your list of likely linkers – remember both groups  Ask a department head to help you with your list depending on the size of your company  Who are your happiest customers?  Where do you buy most of your parts for your product?  Do you have a testimonials page or case studies on your website  If you have an email club – give a shout for testimonials or case studies. A lot of customers would like to help you. This will help you get contact information to relevant persons/companies  Check also your companies customer database/CRM 2. Make the priority list  Check out the customer, supplies or vendors’ websites – who has the highest authority?  Use an SEO program to help you – like Market Samurai – find out more contact information (remember also the social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn), how many Inbound and Outbound links, PageRank, MozRank, Domain Age.  You can also use a plugin for your browser to find this information 3. Ask for the link
  • 39. www.Seocustomer.com Page 39/89  Give them a good reason to link to you – don’t say please – give them an offer they cannot refuse  Where on their site do you want them to link to your site?  Do they have a testimonial or case list?  Do they have a blog or guest blog?  Offer them, that they can have an interview with somebody from your company  You can also ask for an interview with somebody from their company for your own website – it will show them as expert – and you could ask them to link to that page – maybe from their news section.  Most companies have a partner page – so ask to be mentioned on this page 4. Anchor text  When asking for a link – remember to suggest an anchor text. This way you will have your main keywords mention in their anchor text. Conclusion Start your link building with your customer and supplies. You have a chance to get relevant, high quality, do-follow backlinks. • 40. www.Seocustomer.com Page 40/89 How to Use the Google Display Results Instead of the Rank Results There is a huge difference between Google Ranked Results and the Google Display Results. Ranking is much more than just ranking these days. Let me show you this example. Lots of view options I was typing in the keyword “Fitness”. And look at these results. I have a lot of options to the left. I can choose to see the web, images, maps, videos, news, shopping, blogs or books. So using video on YouTube or other sites for video sharing will improve your ranking in this category. When uploading a video to YouTube you will therefore not only get a higher ranking in the general search results but also for the search results in the video category. Time frame option and more… I can also choose a time frame – so I only see the absolute new pages – the standard is anytime but I can also pick out past hour, past week, past month, past year or use a custom range. These options are one of the reasons why it’s a great idea to have your customer comment on your pages – not in a special blog – but directly on your page. This will keep the page fresh. And the next options are sites with images, related searches, visited pages, not yet visited pages, dictionary, reading level, personal nearby, custom location. You get my point – when we think SEO we have to think much more than just the old fashion ranking.
  • 41. www.Seocustomer.com Page 41/89 Local Searches Searching for the keyword “Fitness” and with my location in New York City I get the map from the local search and a lot of local search results. So SEO is also to get you listed in the local searches right? If you have a fitness center in New York City it’s not even enough to list your business in the local searches you will also have to make SEO for the local searches. Check it out here. Google Adwords And yes – Google Adwords. Google Adwords can be a great tool to generate traffic to your site. But remember to check out the rentability with your Adwords.
  • 42. www.Seocustomer.com Page 42/89 I am a big fan of Google Adwords because you only pay when people click on your link. But remember to check out your conversion rates. You can read a lot more about Google Adwords here at www.SeoCustomer.com. Getting social with Google+ We all know that there is a connection between Social Media and SEO right. The social media have an increasing influence on the Google Algorithm. Google is giving a much greater emphasis to the personalized results, at the expense of the more traditional results. The social content, such as Google+ postings and blog posts now appear much more prominently in the search ranking results. The idea is this – if you or your friend Bob – has recommended or liked a page it will get a high ranking in your personalized results. Google uses social signals as an authority measure. The logic is simple. If you page get more “likes” than your competitors’ page then your page is more trusted by Google and it will then get a higher ranking (all other things equal). It’s not sure whether Google uses like from all social sites – and which ones that has the most impact on the Google Algorithm. But Google has all data from its Google+ network so Google+ is one of the main players. Conclusion Remember there is a huge difference between Ranked Results and Display Results in Google. When we do SEO we will have to think of both the ranked results but also the displayed results. With the displayed personalized and localized results you can now much easier bring your page to the top of the Google ranking. • 43. www.Seocustomer.com Page 43/89 How to Use External Links for Your Own Benefit When SEO people are talking about links – most of the time they will talk about backlinks. But you can also use your external links to improve your site. So what are external links? Its links from your website that links outside your own domain to other websites on the internet. Some people are afraid of using them. They think “if people click away from my website I will never see them again – so I better not link to an outside domain”. Other people are thinking “what if the website I am linking to is a spammy or bad website – then I might be punished by the search engines”. And you will also find people that have the idea that “I should never link to a website that has a lower PageRank than mine”. With external links you will provide your readers with in-depth information about the topic you are writing about. You can also write your own unique commentary on existing resources. But if I Use External Linking I will Never See the Reader Again Well you will have to rethink if you are among these people. When you are using external links you will provide your readers with a lot of information and references and this will show to the reader that your site has credible information. And we all know that a credible website is a website that the readers will return to in the future to get more information – right? What is the alternative for the reader? Well if the reader doesn’t find the information he or she needs on your website – the person will just go on Google, Bing or Yahoo and find the wanted information elsewhere. So when not help your reader with credible information. You don’t have to link to your competitors – even though the reader might find them anyway. You can start by linking to great technical people, scientists’ people, bibliographies, Wikipedia, white papers, journal entries. When you link to websites like these it will show that you know your product or business. And that you know what you are talking about on your webpage. Yes credible information. Will search engine penalize me for my external links? No – good external links are great for your website – and the search engines will reward you for doing so. But you are taking a risk. If you like to spammy sites or link farms or paid links they will penalize you. This is the reason you will have to be sure you are linking to the right places, the specialist,
  • 44. www.Seocustomer.com Page 44/89 the technical people, and the white papers and so on. If you have a website where people can comment on your pages (and yes it’s a great idea – to keep the page fresh) then you should be very careful which websites the comments are linked to. The best way is often to moderate the comments and take away the URL in the comments – and also to make all comment a no-follow link. Also undisclosed paid advertising outbound links can reduce your website’s credibility. Another issue is too many links on one page – this might confuses visitors. Google advises webmasters to have no more than 100 links per page. One of my readers here reminded me about the landing page for a convert to sale page. This has to be clear and clean. No need to confuse the potential buyer in the last phase of a buying. And he is absolutely right. And Google don’t really love exchanging any types of links – so stay away from that too … So what about if I link to a low PageRank website? Don’t worry about this. But you are right – if you are linking to a website that has a lower PageRank than yours – you will lend them some credibility (link juice). And if the website you are linking to has a higher PageRank than yours you will not. Google writes this on their own blog – “If you’re linking to content you believe your users will enjoy, and then please don’t worry about the site’s perceived PageRank. As a webmaster, the things to be wary of regarding outbound links are listed above, such as losing credibility by linking to spammy sites. Otherwise, consider outbound links as a common sense way to provide more value to your users, not a complicated formula.” I better make an external link here. So read more about external linking of Google’s own blog Conclusion Yes, yes, yes – use external links on your website and comments. Just remember to moderate your comments and make the comments no-follow links. With external links you will get a higher credibility and you will see your readers again. Remember to grab the 3 free eBooks here at SeoCustomer with tips and tricks about SEO, SEM, Social Media Traffic and Link Building. • 45. www.Seocustomer.com Page 45/89 Spin the Traffic Generating Wheel Have you ever heard about the traffic generating wheel? It’s a wheel you will have to start spinning and you can use it for a new website or for a website that is already up and running. To get a traffic coming to your website you need to work with all these elements – a combination of the elements. So are you ready to take a spin with me? Goals Do you have a goal for your website? Is it sale? Or a download? Or a sign up for a newsletter? Or something else? Most of the website I have seen doesn’t really have a visible goal. If you ask the webmaster he or she will say well I want the customer to call our sales people – that is our goal. But then I just asked why I can only find the phone number in a contact us page and not on all the product pages. I will say to find your goals are the most important step of the wheel. And I would write it down on a piece of paper and tape it to the computer. Never forget what your goals are for your website.
  • 46. www.Seocustomer.com Page 46/89 Analytic Now you have your goal ready – it’s time to set up your analytic. You need this analytic on your website. You need to know – Which pages are your visitors reading? Where do they come from? How long time do they spend on your site. And you need to set up your goal in the analytic too. If your goal is to have a sign up for a newsletter – you will need to have this goal implemented on your goals set up. With this goal you will learn where the people who sign up for the newsletter are coming from. Are they all coming from mentioning on Twitter and Facebook but not from Google+. Or are they all from Google+ and never from Facebook? Maybe you have no signups from social networks but from your ad on Google Adwords? You will also need to find your keywords. First of all which keywords will be relevant to your site? Write them down. Then go and check out the competition for these keywords – is it very difficult to get on top of the ranking for these keywords? Maybe you should use a combination – so instead of “cars” you could rank high for the word phrase “blue cars” or “used cars” or even “used blue cars”. Now you will have to check out the searches for these keywords – how many people are searching for “used blue cars” or “blue cars”. No reason to rank high if there is no traffic right? Well you get my point – never work on a website that has no analytic. Content Content is king – so I have been told. This is why you want the customer to come to your site right? Write great content. Something useful for your readers. People should think you give credible information. You are a specialist in your field. So tell your audience what they need to know about your product. Your viewers will return if you are providing great information. This will not bring you a lot of traffic next week or next month – but with great content you audience will grow and grow over time. When you write your content remember that each page has a main keyword. So before writing your content check out the keyword you want to be found for. Another use of your content is article marketing. Use your articles to get backlinks to your website. Yes content is king (and Elvis Presley of course). Design So you will ask me – Henrik how can design bring me traffic? It can help you in many ways. Let me just mention a few of them here. Navigation – most of your viewers will only spend around 10 seconds on your website (check it out in your analytic – it’s true) so your navigation has to be very clear and clean. If people can’t find the information he or she is looking for – they are gone before you know it.
  • 47. www.Seocustomer.com Page 47/89 Bounce rate – Google uses the bounce rate in its search algorithm. So if you can lower your sites bounce rate you will get higher in Google searches. (By the way when I write Google I should write search engines right?). If people look at more than one page on your website it will lower your bounce rate. If they only look at one page it will raise your bounce rate. With your design you can make it easier to lower your bounce rate – a simple element as a search bar will lower your bounce rate. Here you can read about some tips about how to lower your bounce rate. Comments – we are now in the time of web 2.0 – so let your viewer makes a comment on your web pages. This will raise the engagement of your potential customers. Other great elements could be something interactive on your pages. If you are selling products for saving energy – let people write their energy consumption – before using your product – and let them see how much they will save. This will also bring some valuable information to your viewers and some of them will link to your page. And backlinks are great for your traffic (but more about this later). Social Wow – just a few years ago – this element wasn’t in the traffic generating wheel. But the last couple of years the social element’s importance has just grown and grown. Most of the social media are not helping you to do-follow backlinks to your website. But in the end backlinks are not the goal for our site right? More and more people are using the social networks. The last number I have seen about the Facebook accounts was that 12 percent of all people in the world (!!!) Have a Facebook account. And then we have Twitter, Google+ and a lot of other social networks. If you are serious about your website you will need to engage people on the social networks. You will have to join the conversation. It doesn’t matter if you are in the B2B or B2C business. Take a look at this Infographic about traffic and social media. Link Backlinks, backlinks, and backlinks – all SEO people are dreaming about backlinks every night. So if you wake up an SEO guy in the middle of the night he or she will not tell you that the dream was about a wonderful trip to a sunny place – no the dream is about backlinks. In the old days (read about 2 years back) the do-follow backlinks counted for around 50 percent of a ranking. But Google is constantly changing its algorithm, so it might not be 50 percent anymore – because the social media have a growing importance too. But even if backlinks importance are 40 percent or 30 percent or 25 percent – its still an important factor. So make a plan about how to get yours backlinks. Get some tips and tricks about getting backlinks here. I have many articles here on Seocustomer.com to give you inspiration about getting backlinks – it’s not always an easy job I know. It’s also important that you have both do-follow and no-follow links – Google wants your link structure to look natural or else they will punish you. When we are talking links – we also talk external links and internal links on your website. They are all part of the SEO work.
  • 48. www.Seocustomer.com Page 48/89 Conclusion The wheel is a never stopping process. You constantly need to review your goals – is a sign up for your newsletter still your goal? Or maybe you have started to sell on your website? Is it still the same keywords or do you need new ones? Get back to your analytic – what is working for you? Should you stop your PPC or maybe increase your PPC? Your content needs to be kept fresh all the time. Could you help your viewers with more valuable information? Is your design out of date? The world of the internet is changing so fast – so even if your design is only 2 years old it might look old and out of date all ready. It’s time to use the social networks now – it’s a growing factor in all marketing these days. Backlinks are also a never ending process – use at least one hour every week to get backlinks your site. • 49. www.Seocustomer.com Page 49/89 Your Ultimate Hashtag Guide You properly all know what a #hashtag is right? But do you really know how to work with #hashtag? What are the best practices? Let me take you on a rough ride to the hashtag heaven. (By the way I am listening to Paul McCartney: Rough Ride – while writing this article – watch it on YouTube here) What is this #hashtag? The Twitter universe is so huge that it can be difficult to navigate. But the solution for many people is hashtags. With hashtags you can get receive – what you think are – the most important tweets in an efficient way. Anybody can make a hashtag – write # in front of a word in your tweet and you have made your hashtag. So if I write #SeoCustomer in a tweet I have made a hashtag – easy right? Other people on Twitter can use the same hashtag in their own tweets – and this will just add to the larger conversation about your topic. A study showed that only around one-third of all tweets is worth reading. There are 340 million tweets every day on Twitter. So this is showing that 266 million tweets shouldn’t have been tweeted right? So how do you stand out from the crowd? You will need to find your Twitter voice. Hashtags are a way to get noticed – but using too many hashtags in one tweet, can also make your tweet look messy, spammy and nonsensical. Hashtags is becoming increasingly popular and you can now even find them in Google+ sphere. Other sites that support hashtags are: Diaspora software and social network, All Gawker Media websites, Orkut, Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube (2009–2011), Instagram, FriendFeed (since 2009), Pinterest, Fluidinfo, Catch.com (as well as mobile apps). With these hashtags you can connect with more people and therefor grow your number of followers and engage more people with your tweets. Grab a cup of coffee and read more here…
  • 50. www.Seocustomer.com Page 50/89 Navigation with hashtags When you write a hashtag it will appear in red, blue or gray type color. The rest of the tweet will appear in black. When people are clicking on a hashtag, it will send them to the page for that hashtag. So clicking on a hashtag will not send your audience to your homepage (if you have a URL in your tweets), but it’s a way to be found in the huge Twitter universe (It will send you to a page with the tweets using that hashtag). In your “Trends” sidebar, you can see which hashtags that are the most popular on twitter. You can also write “#SomethingNice” in the search bar at the top of the Twitter page, then you will find all the tweets containing this “#SomethingNice” hashtag. A lot of people use a program like TweetDeck (1. photo). Here you can set up the screen to show you difference colonel with a specific hashtag. Other programs are Monitter (2. photo) and TwitterFall (3. photo). How to find the hashtags to use So which hashtags should you use? There are many ways to find your perfect hashtags. Let me tell you about some of them here… 1. Scroll though the twitter feeds from the people you follow. Here you can get some great ideas. If they are interested in those hashtags maybe you should be too. 2. Search for hashtags. Go to your search engine and search for “great twitter hashtags” or “awesome twitter hashtags” or “interesting twitter hashtags” or “cool twitter hashtags” to get ideas. 3. Go to site that aggregate and share hashtags. These sites can really give you some cool ideas. Tools to find your hashtags Let me show you a couple of great sites where you can get ideas for hashtags. But you have to remember, that if a hashtag is getting trendy it can be even more difficult to parse though the information stream. Twubs: Twubs aggregates tweet and it imports pictures and illuminate the topics that are being discussed. Here in the picture I have checked out the #cafe hashtag. You can also check out the trends on Twubs. If
  • 51. www.Seocustomer.com Page 51/89 you have this trend hashtag you know that somebody out there is interested in your topic. Hashtags.org is really a great tool. It will show you the use over time and the recent tweets. Here in the picture I was trying to find the use of the hashtag #cafe. I love this. So what are the best practices with hashtags? Let me tell you some great tips and tricks about how to use hashtags most properly.  Short hashtags please. If you make a hashtag like this: #SeoCustomerIsTheBestSEOBlogInTheWorld it will not work. It’s much too long and complicated. So rule number one – it has to be user-friendly for the eye.  People really don’t like symbols – people like words – so be sure you only use hashtags sparingly (I will have to check my tweets after I finish with this guide – I think I am using too many hashtags).  Relevant hashtags - You hashtags should be relevant to your tweet. If your tweet is about dogs – don’t make a #cat hashtag. Ready for more?  Don’t spam your tweets with hashtags. When I make a tweet about an SEO article I can use the #SEO hashtag, but also #marketing, #online #business. But in the end it would leave me with 3, 4 or 5 #hashtags and it will make the tweet look confusing. Think quality not quantity.  Promote your hashtags. If you are using your tweets for events or brand you should promote your hashtag. Let’s say you have a cafe and you always use this hashtag: #BestCafe. Then promote it everywhere you can. On your homepage, ads, signs. In your café make some signs telling people to follow your tweets with this hashtag. This could also engage people to use this take. I should make a #SeoCustomer hashtag.  Be persistent. It will take time to build up an audience for your own hashtag. So be patient and persistent please.  Make it readable for the eye. Don’t write #bestcafe – instead write #BestCafe.

  • 55. www.Seocustomer.com Page 55/89 How much is a top ranking position worth – PPC and SEO We all know that a high position is better than a low position – both for PPC ads and in the organic search ranking. But how much better is a 1st ranking compared to an above the fold ranking? Let me show you some of the results of the correlation between positions and click- through-rates (CTR). It can be very difficult to compare the statistic for a ranking position and for an ad position. I have found some different studies to show you the correlation between position and CTR. The studies are from Optify, Slingshot, Enquiro, First Rate and AccuraCast. Organic Position and CTR Let me show you 3 different studies from 2007, 2011 and 2012. In the latest study from Optify – you can see that the 1st rank position gets 36 percent of the clicks. While the 2nd ranking gets only 13 percent and 3rd rank gets 10 percent.
  • 56. www.Seocustomer.com Page 56/89 This means that you should never stop optimizing your website. It’s no longer enough to be on the first page if you really want to boost your traffic. The average CTR rate between being on the 2nd page compare to the 1st page is a factor 6. So fight for your 1st page ranking position. The first page gets 8.90 percent in CTR while the 2nd page only gets 1.50 percent in average CTR. But check this out – if you are above the fold you will over double as high CTR (19.50 percent) than just being on the first page (average of 8.9 percent). Try to stay on the top with all the new SEO best practices and updates. PPC Positions and CTR When you are doing Google Adwords or other PPC ads your position also matters a lot.
  • 57. www.Seocustomer.com Page 57/89 The imagine shows 2 different studies – one from 2010 and one for 2009. The 2010 study from First Rate really tells you to stay in the top 2 – if you want to boost your CTR. So you will have to choose your target keywords carefully, so you can make it to a top 2. Remember also that the CTR has an impact on the Quality Score – and therefore also on the click price for your ads on Google. Head Term or Long Tail Term and CTR In the study from Optify – they have defined Head Term as “… Keywords with over 1,000 monthly searches (Google US)” and Long Tail Terms as “… Keywords with less than 100 monthly searches (Google US)”. The graph shows that a Head Terms get higher CTR for the position one than a Long Tail Term. But it also shows that if you are optimizing for a Head Term you will not see your benefits until you are getting into the top 5 positions. If – on the other hand – you are optimizing for a Long Tail Term you will see some great CTR on every position on page one. The average CTR (on page one) for a Head Term is 4.6 percent CTR while an average CTR for the Long Tail Term is 9 percent. So the impact for you if you are optimizing for a long tail term is to get your page to page one in the search engine. Don’t worry too much about getting to the top 2. And – all other things equal – it should be easier for you to get work with a Long Tail Term and therefor more valuable for you. So what is your strategy – Head Term or Long Tail Term? Henrik

  • 61. www.Seocustomer.com Page 61/89 3 images strategies to boost your traffic Do you use imagines in an active way on your website? With images you have the opportunity to really drive people to your site. But are you optimizing your images for the search engines right now? Images are a way to get attention from the eye. We all look at images before we start reading the text. So when somebody clicks on a link to your website – the first thing that the visitor will see is an image. So the question is – are you using this in an optimal way? Our computers and internet are getting faster and faster so it is getting easier to load the imagines too. Some years back a visitor might have to wait a looooooong time before the page was loaded. Still we have to make sure we are not using a 20 MB image right? So remember to compress your images to the precise size. So are you ready for an image journey? Do you have hot coffee in your cup? 1 – Optimize your images for people not search engines I really hate to say this – because I love everything about SEO – but SEO is never a goal for a website. The goal is to sell a product, maybe a sign up for a newsletter or maybe a download. The goal is never SEO. So when we are optimizing an image remember there are people out there looking at it. Let me present some good rules of thumbs:  Keep them relevant – the images must be relevant to the headline and text  Big is beautiful – an image helps the reader, it will show what the text is about and it will break up the text to make it more readable.  Choose high quality images where people can see a clear image with details  Optimize for the RSS feed – when somebody is using RSS feeds from your site – it gives them an opportunity to quickly scan through the content. An image will help you to create attention for a text.  Images make us remembering a page on a website.  Faces – when we look people we look at the faces first – this is an eye fixation. So remember that faces will get attention in an image.  Get more ideas from heat maps here from Business Insider (You will see some differences between men and women). 2 – Optimize your pictures for search engines Yes – I know I just said you have to optimize your images for people – but you still have to optimize your images for the search engines.
  • 62. www.Seocustomer.com Page 62/89 So here are some rules of thumbs you can use:  Not too many images on a page – choose a few relevant images for a text per page. The number of images depends on the length of the text and the content.  Use your keywords – remember to tag the image with your keyword for the page. You can use the keywords in the ALT text, in the filename of the image (no spaces in your filename but use dashes between words) in the text just around the image and page title  Descriptions – write a long description for your image. This way when people are searching for something very specific your picture will show up as a very relevant image.  Image freshness – many SEO gurus suggest re-uploading your images to keep them fresh. Nobody wants to look at 5 years old pictures – and the search engines think the same way. 3 – Optimize for social media Images are the most shared content in the social media network. So this gives you an opportunity to really boost your traffic.  Amazing images – if the image is something special people will share it. But the question is what makes an image something special? You can get inspired here – the 45 most powerful photos of 2011  Think – evoke emotions, tickle the funny bone, surprise and make people curious. You can read more about it here and get more ideas.  Use standard formats – the most used formats in social media are JPG, GIF and PNG. No reason to use other formats – preferring JPG.  Publish your images on social networks – yes (of course) you have to publish your images on the social networks, so you can make it easy for people to share them there too. So go to your Google+, Facebook and Twitter accounts and publish your picture. Yes you can publish images on Twitter too.  Use photo sites – you can use photos sharing sites like Flickr (Flickr is reported to help in Yahoo! Image optimization), Pinterest (I love this one), Picassa, Instagram, TwitPic (for Twitter), Photobucket. This way you will make it easy for people to share the image.  If you want a Digg thumb nailed submission you will have to use (or make sure it can be resized to) 160×120 or 160×160 pixels.  Did you notice I am using a Pinterest plugin for this website? When you put your mouse on a picture you can right away pin it on Pinterest. Well now I have to choose some relevant pictures for this article hmm. I hope you like the picture – it is relevant. • 65. www.Seocustomer.com Page 65/89 YouTube Ranking Factors We are always talking about Google when we are talking about search engines right? But do you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine? And do you know which ranking factors YouTube is using? YouTube Statistic 2012 This statistic is from the official YouTube statistic:  Over 800 million unique users visit YouTube each month  Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube  72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute  70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US  YouTube is localized in 43 countries and across 60 languages  In 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every person on Earth  Amazing right? YouTube Ranking Factors Here are some of the ranking factors. Sometimes a picture is better than many words.
  • 67. www.Seocustomer.com Page 67/89 Action from users  The number of views is of course important  Audience retention but the absolute (which depend on the length of your video) and the relative (compared to other videos with the same length as yours).  The reactions from your user – do you get any comments on your video and how many? What are the reactions (good or bad), how many numbers of thumbs up or down do you get? How many favorites and video responses do you get? And how many people are adding your video to a playlist? This is all telling YouTube about reactions from your users.  Social Sharing – social sharing is also an important factor – how many shares do you get from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and others.  How many people will embed your video – both the number and Page Ranks of the sites that embed your video?  You can also have a website that links to your video without the embed codes. YouTube Channel  Authority – you can build authority with the channel title, the channel keywords and description. Also link to your homepage, channels that are related to yours and make a playlist including title, keywords and description.  Trust – Make your visitors trust your channel. The age of your channel is important, the number of subscribers, the number of channel views and the views of all your uploaded video. You can also connect your YouTube channel to your Google+ profile (YouTube is owned by Google)  Frequency – this is about activity. How active are you? How often do you log into your account? Do some ratings and comments on other videos than just your own, answer questions and comments, how often do you upload a new video? Remember to be active on your YouTube channel. On the video upload  Keywords – remember to tag your video with your main keywords and description, don’t be afraid to use outgoing links to relevant sites too, use the annotation and video transcript.  Quality and Freshness – keep your video fresh. Well you could upload your video again after 1 year to keep it fresh and if it’s still relevant to your viewers. Quality is a key factor for your audience and maybe not for the ranking – but we all love quality right?  Thumbnail – this is more important than you might think because it will influence your click rates in YouTube search results (the results to the right of a YouTube video page). Usually you really can’t influence that but be sure to choose the best version) Read much more about How to Use YouTube for SEO here and get more SEO advices for YouTube All the best to you, Henrik
  • 68. www.Seocustomer.com Page 68/89 Negative SEO Awareness To become an SEO you need to learn how to optimize a website the right way. There’s no quick and easy way in SEO and those who practice negative SEO don’t realize the essence of SEO. I routinely receive emails from various people for link advertisement and know that those links will not help me as irrelevant links from spammy looking sites are useless in today’s SEO game. Most newbie SEOs will fall for those useless and probably harmful links and unknowingly fall to the dark side. Here’s the email the I received (see below). Negative SEO spammers sell their spammy services to people with little SEO knowledge, who generally know enough to be dangerous. I’ve seen two different types of spammers or negative SEO – spammers that sell their services and spammers that break your website with spammy, unrelated links pointing to it. My objective in writing this article is to give the SEO community an awareness of malicious and spammy SEO. .edu links Ever say, “I’m going to get tons of .edu backlinks from this cheap, online service to make sure that my website will rank number 1 in Google”? Check with the Penguin about that. Even now there are still people who are practicing these . I found this ad on fiverr:
  • 69. www.Seocustomer.com Page 69/89 If it were that easy to get .edu backlinks, then they wouldn’t carry any value and wouldn’t help with increasing rank. Within weeks they drop away so even if they do get indexed, then won’t last long. That ad is more a joke and waste of money than positive SEO. Here’s an article about how spammers tend to populate his comment section. He figured out that his blog is number one for the search command [seo site:.edu inurl:blog "post a comment"] and most of his traffic are spammers. This is an example of a .edu blog article that has been spammed for backlinks. Here’s another one, I think they have an auto approve blog comment system which allows spammers to comment then drops off a link. Here’s the blog post: I really hate to see irrelevant comments on my blog but after reading a couple of comments from this post I realized how stupid spammers are and also the webmaster of this site. Here I’ll share some irrelevant blog comments from this blog:
  • 70. www.Seocustomer.com Page 70/89 What’s up with that name? What’s up with that stupid comment? As you can see the comments are not related to the blog post. Most webmasters would tend to trash your comments if you put keywords in your name instead of your actual name. So while blog commenting, it’s better to put a name rather than your keywords to avoid being seen as spam. So be aware of negative SEO and avoid doing those negative practices. Go for organically made links and contextual links when link building. That would keep you from getting penalized by search engines and increase your rankings the right way.
  • 71. www.Seocustomer.com Page 71/89 How to Use Instagram as a Marketing Tool and to Boost Your Social Presence There are new social sites coming up every few months, Instagram is one of the newest ones and it has just received its 80 millionth member. It is also one of the social sites that are quickly becoming popular with companies or public figures who are looking to connect with their fans. It operates on the same basis as Twitter where people are able to follow any person they are interested in. Instagram is a marketing method that many individuals and companies are adopting to help create awareness. Here are some tips on what you need to do to increase the number of followers you have. 1. Post newsworthy and interesting content This is probably obvious to most of the users of Instagram. The truth of the matter is that only interesting content should be posted for viewership. Anything less than that will be a disservice to yourself and your followers. The aim of being on Instagram is to get noticed and if this is what you are after, then post things that are of interest to other people. Something that will generate a buzz so to speak. Always think about your audience before you post. Unless you are someone famous who will get hits and comments regardless of what you put up. An approach that works is that one of putting yourself in the shoes of your follower. Think of yourself as one of your followers and see the picture you are about to post from their point of view. If you saw it and would not like it and quickly skip it to view the next one, that is probably a good enough reason for you not to post your content to begin with. It is better to put one picture that makes a huge impression that posting a million of them that make no impact. 2. Geo-tag photos and content that you put up The application allows individuals to put up details of where the picture or pictures were taken. If you want to get more followers in Instagram, ensure that you always post a picture accompanied by details about where the picture was taken. When you include the location of where the picture was taken, it will grouped together with every other photo available that was taken in that same location and that means other people who uploaded their geo mapped photos will be able to view yours as well. There is a high chance that they will follow you since you visit the same places they do. If you have not been doing this already, then start now. It is never too late to start.
  • 72. www.Seocustomer.com Page 72/89 3. Like and Comment You can’t expect to get noticed if you yourself do not notice the work of others. If you want to increase the number of your followers on Instagram, ensure that you like other people’s photos. Do this especially for pictures that are most popular with the rest of the users. Narrow down your liking to pictures that are relevant to you though. Liking every picture that is posted will give people the impression that you are a serial liker so to speak. You don’t want to seem that way. That’s the reason why you should like and comment with caution. Pick the ones that resonate with you and your interests. Much as liking every picture you see will lead to some people following you, be careful and pick followers that rank high on the Instagram platform. If you like such posts, you are likely to get followed by serious individuals. 4. Use Hash Tags Just like the Twitter platform, you can attach hash tags to every picture that you put up. Many people who are prowling the Instagram platform often search for content they are looking for by looking for a particular hash tag. Kind of like how people type in particular keywords on a search engine to find what they are looking for. It may seem like a tedious affair attaching tags to every post you put but it is well worth the effort when all is said and done. It is by far the most effective tool for getting noticed on Instagram. More so when you are not very familiar with how Instagram works. Ensure that every hash tag you use has a relation to what the image on the picture is trying to portray. It doesn’t hurt to be creative when using this very effective tool. If you set a trend then you are obviously going to get more followers. 5. Promote Yourself On All Platforms Use other social network platforms to market yourself. If you already have a large following there, let them know that you are now using Instagram and urge or coerce them to follow you there. Make yourself known by putting yourself out there. Steve writes for Buy Instagram Followers – a website designed to help boost your Instagram likes and Instagram profile artificially.
