Dear delegates and participants,
As we approach our 10th year in Asia for our
Clearing, Settlement & Custody conference, our
objectives are to remain true to the themes of
custody and infrastructure challenges as well as
regional harmonization initiatives, all of which
have contributed to our past successes with this
event. We do however realize that markets in Asia
are evolving with a number of underlying drivers
that are influencing and shaping the Asian financial
landscape. Hence we have worked key industry
thought leaders in the region to incorporate what
we believe are topical themes within the itinerary
of the second day of the conference.
One of the distinguishing features this year is an
introduction into blockchain technology, which
we believe will have a key impact within banking
services potentially disrupting several areas of
banking within operations, front office and risk.
We also believe that collateral management in the
Asian markets is still a challenge with many market
participants still looking for an optimal solution
that can cater to both their operational, risk and
liquidity needs. For our event, we will delve into
collateral management with a focus on liquidity
and also provide some discussions around how
Basel 3’s funding and liquidity directives could
complement effective collateral management.
Amongst the other topics we found relevant to
include in the Day 2 sessions are operational risk,
Asian harmonization and how Asia can learn from
Europe’s success with the T2S initiatives.
I look forward to welcoming all of you to Singapore
in March in what should be a fascinating and
thought provoking event.
Warm regards,
Sam Ahmed,
Managing Director & Partner,
Deriv Asia & Chairman
