9. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
The healthcare sector used to be technology driven.
Its tools were used and understood by experts only.
10. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
New technologies allow patients to become experts of their
own health. Therefore it is necessary for the patients to be able
to understand and evaluate their personal medical data.

From expert devices to new service tools for patients.
12. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
From expert devices to new service tools for patients.
As medical devices are used in a different kind of way
and in new and different contexts, the devices have
to be designed differently to answer the needs of their
new user groups.

From expert devices to new service tools for patients.
But how to answer the needs of the new user group?

16. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
Key Learnings:
Most patients do not want to be
confronted with their disease.
17. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
Key Learnings:
Most patients share their symtoms with
a selected number of people only.
They do not want to worry their relatives.
18. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
Key Learnings:
Service should not focus on the patient‘s disease only,
but support the patient in feeling good.
19. 02.08.2016 | Importance of user-centered design in healthcare
Key Learnings:
Doctors were often of the opinion that
apps did not look trustworthy.

What makes us special..so we really can DO things untill the end
This often brings me in intersting but also strange situations
AND WHNE I TELL PEOPLE ABOUT MY WORK; I OFTEN GET THE QUESTION
We have a shift right now in healthcare
So how to do it, i would like to show you how we have worked and what we have learned within one of our projects
CardioSecur® ACTIVE is a smartphone-based mobile ECG wit 4 electrodes*.
It allows immediate and easy to understand certainty about you heart condition
CS had a brilliant technolgy but didn‘t know how to approach the patients – thats why they came to us
EXPERT TOOL, BUT WITH INTERFACE WICH HAS TO BE UBDERSTOOD BY PATIENTS AND THEIR RELATIVES AS WELL AS ANSWER THEIR NEEDS
Data can but must not be shared with the patients cardiologist.
Every recording is automatically translated in a three-stage feedback: neutral, yellow or red.
So how did we find out about what the users expected of a product like this? What challenges do the users meet in their everyday lives?
We visited them, spend their days with them and their friends and relatives, interviewed and gave them little tasks to do in playful kind of way
Analyse insights
People don’t want to be confronted with their disease / Ignorance against their sickness
Even though they are sick and quite life threatening, they want to live a normal life,
The interviews were a special moments, as we could tell that people don’t talk about disease often, but they think about it all the time, are aware of heartbeat, know how to calm down
Beispiel Frau 2. heart attack
–> dashboard more emotional, lightweight, calming and playful
But they are worried and need to share their worries with somebody to feel less worried.
So on eof the first feature of the app , to inform the relatives directly in an alarm situation was quickly dismissed
Interface not too medical, but more “feel good”
Doctors play an important ole in the patients security network…but still they are not always approachable
But if you design an app for cardiovascular patients you got to include the doctors into the design process
it is very helpful to involve all stakeholders – like doctors, Nurses and care services or the relatives of a patient – into the hole creation process
designers goal is often to create the most engaging app you ever saw – but designing for chronicle patients means creating a tool that let them understand their illness, allows interatcion, increases their self- management and motivates behavior change towards their personal goals.
IT IS ABOUT PATIENT EMPOWERMENT
Direct personal response in three levels
Data can but must not be shared with your personal doctor…and of course in a way the doctor understand this kind of data and can work with it.
Finales design der app mit dashboard, calendar, Ergebnis des EKG Messung, tagebucheinträgen
