This will be a short presentation on the Occupational Health and Safety Act as prescribed to the Farming Sector. The emphasis will be an update on the new requirement for employers to provide mandatory supervisor and worker awareness training. It will include highlights of the resources which the Ministry of Labour and Workplace Safety & Prevention Service have to assist employers.

– Highest number was 70-79yrs (16% fatals and 47.0/100)
– Up to 15yrs ( 12.5% fatals and 36/100,00)

– 23% rollover, 215 runover,85 entanglement,6% struck by not
machine and 6% animal related.
• Rollovers 68% are sideways (too close to edge and on
incline) and29% backwards
• Run-overs 34% unmanned, 29% operator (falls), 20%
bystander and 17% passenger

• 66% in May to October (peak in July/august)
• Average rate is 112.8/100,000
– Under 19 are rates lower than average
– Highest number in 50-59 yrs (frequency just over average at
136/100,000
– Highest risk is 80+ yrs frequency rate 363/100,000 or 3.2x
average!
