3. N.T. EVANGELISM: WHAT IT IS
• Evangelism – to bring or announce good news.
• The word is used in regard to what the
disciples did in fulfilling the great commission.
– “Preaching” the word (Acts 8:4).
– “Preached” (Acts 8:12).
– “Who preach the gospel” (Rom. 10:15).
– “I preached” (1 Cor. 15:1-2).

4. 1ST CENTURY EVANGELISM:
GOD GAVE THEM A PATTERN
• Peter and the 11 on Pentecost (Acts 2).
• The scattered disciples (Acts 8:4).
• Phillip and the Samaritans (Acts 8:5).
• Paul in Athens (Acts 17:16-17).
• Jesus was their example to follow.
– He engaged others personally (Jn. 3:1-21).
– He showed no partiality (Jn. 4:1-26).

5. 1ST CENTURY EVANGELISM:
GOD GAVE THEM A PATTERN
• When it came to evangelism, the
apostles and 1st century Christians…
– Were individually concerned about the lost.
– Individually went out into the world.
– Individually taught lost people.
The church went out into the world, not vice
versa.
They taught them the gospel, not their story.

8. OUR EVANGELISM SHOULD
FOLLOW THE PATTERN OF THE N.T
• Be a good example, but share the gospel with
others (Eph. 5:6-13; 1 Tim. 4:16; 2 Tim. 2:2).
• Be a servant to others, but share the gospel
them (Gal. 6:10; Acts 10:38; Matt. 11:28-30).
• Have non-Christian friends, but share the
gospel with them (1 Cor. 15:33; Acts 10:24).
• Invite people to services, but share the
gospel with them (1 Cor. 14:24).
