• Part of the Research Data Spring portfolio funded by
Jisc (#dataspring)
• “to find new technical tools, software and service
solutions, which will improve researchers’ workflows and
the use and management of their data”
• develop a simple ‘one-click’ process where data,
metadata and methods detail are transferred from an
institutional repository to a relevant publisher platform for
publication as a data paper

analysis (complete)

5. Results
• Greatly helped by the RDA-WDS Publishing Data
Workflows WG project that mapped c.25 data
publishing workflows
• 50 direct respondents to 2 surveys (34 repositories, 16
publishers)
• Vast majority were interested
• Most publishers had potential publications in mind

6. Compatability
• Although repositories were running on a variety of
platforms, all were compatible with the SWORD
spec subject to modification

7. Phase 2: tech and prototype
development (ongoing)
• Runs until 30 November 2015
• Helper app tech spec
• Integration with repositories and publisher submission systems (minimal
metadata)
• User workflows(not just a techie project)
• Build presence to engage and leverage community support.

9. Current progress
• 1st technical meeting - identified prototype repositories and publishers, working with
THOR/ORCiD
• focusing on simplified set of requirements - not edge cases
• helper app will need to be a hub - and eventually ‘smart’
• ORCiD api will eventually help with author name disambiguation
• preparing UX teleconference, build wire frames
• starting engagement process

• Publish the API spec for comment - run a webinar
• Publish user workflows
• Build the prototype
• Engage further with stakeholders
• Document and prepare for Phase 3 (developing a reference
implementation)
