  3. Everyone talks about Asia GROWTH: Fast growth – almost doubly fast as rest of work Tiger economies GDP growth has been above trend , boom and bust but the booms have accelereated quicker. Why? Liberalisation of economies, not many rules here, very strong work ethic at all levels Opening to world for trade esp commodities and infrastructure = wealth boom too As region becomes more stable so investors looking inside not outside HNW: Asia is now the region with the highest number of High Net Worth Individuals in the world. And any day now the most absolute wealth too. Unmanaged WEALTH: $14trillion in Asian wealth (ex-Japan) ONLY $3trillion is in wealth management
  4. Look at growth rates too – double digit growth in the amount of wealth So all is rosy right?
  5. The reality is not to get caught up in the hype You need to look at the intricacies of the region to truly understand how to be successful here especially in the wealth management industry

POPULATION Populations look great – but the wealth is tough to find We have mapped Mass Affluent and HNW numbers internally here some examples: Thailand – population 65million, HNWs = 70,000 Philippines – population 100million, HNWs = 70,000 Just to compare: UK 70million, HNWs = 750,000 AGE: Next issue is who holds the wealth: This is where google doesn’t help much - it’s the hands on experience: Age- older Culture – made wealth themselves, who is a WM Attitude to new – respond to aspiration but takes time to earn TRUST ABILITY TO CAPTURE Ability to capture – slow, word of mouth, overbanked?

FWM Survey Entrepreneur appetite in Singapore, average respondent was 29 years old – appetite only 7% of 100 respondents say they want a wealth manager 3. Regulations – MAS – thousands a year. Difficult for new entrants to gain a capital markets license 4. Lack of talent – speaking at Hubbis conference recently in Singapore – this was the biggest issue 5. Currently business is subdued after a bumper crop Chinese led in particular in Hong kong AUM growth of 140% between 2008 and 2014 6. Future of the offshore havens in Asia?
