Feature engineering is a fundamental but poorly documented component in LTR search applications. As a result, there are still few open access software packages that allow researchers and practitioners to easily simulate a feature extraction pipeline and conduct experiments in a lab setting. This talk introduces Fxt, an open-source framework to perform efficient and scalable feature extraction. Fxt may be integrated into complex, high-performance software applications to help solve a wide variety of text-based machine learning problems. The talk details how we built and documented a reproducible feature extraction pipeline with LTR experiments using the ClueWeb09B collection. This LTR dataset is publicly available. Weâll also discuss some of the benefits (feature extraction efficiency, model interpretation) of having open access tooling in this area for researchers and practitioners alike.

Every team working on information retrieval software struggles with the task of evaluating how well their system performs in terms of search quality(currently and historically). Evaluating search quality is important both to understand and size the improvement or regression of your search application across the development cycles, and to communicate such progress to relevant stakeholders. In the industry, and especially in the open source community, the landscape is quite fragmented: such requirements are often achieved using ad-hoc partial solutions that each time require a considerable amount of development and customization effort. To provide a standard, unified and approachable technology, we developed the Rated Ranking Evaluator (RRE), an open source tool for evaluating and measuring the search quality of a given search infrastructure. RRE is modular, compatible with multiple search technologies and easy to extend.

Every information retrieval practitioner ordinarily struggles with the task of evaluating how well a search engine is performing and to reproduce the performance achieved in a specific point in time. Improving the correctness and effectiveness of a search system requires a set of tools which help measuring the direction where the system is going. Additionally it is extremely important to track the evolution of the search system in time and to be able to reproduce and measure the same performance (through metrics of interest such as precison@k, recall, NDCG@k...). The talk will describe the Rated Ranking Evaluator from a researcher and software engineer perspective. RRE is an open source search quality evaluation tool, that can be used to produce a set of reports about the quality of a system, iteration after iteration and that could be integrated within a continuous integration infrastructure to monitor quality metrics after each release . Focus of the talk will be to raise public awareness of the topic of search quality evaluation and reproducibility describing how RRE could help the industry.

Abstract Distributed Database Query Optimization has been an active area of research for Database research Community in this decade. Research work mostly involves mathematical programming and evolving new algorithm design techniques in order to minimize the combined cost of storing the database, processing transactions and communication amongst various sites of storage. The complete problem and most of its subsets as well are NP-Hard. Most of proposed solutions till date are based on use of Enumerative Techniques or using Heuristics. In this paper we have shown benefits of using innovative Genetic Algorithms (GA) for optimizing the sequence of sub-query operations over the enumerative methods and heuristics. A stochastic simulator has been designed and experimental results show encouraging improvements in decreasing the total cost of a query. An exhaustive enumerative method is also applied and solutions are compared with that of GA on various parameters of a Distributed Query, like up to 12 joins and 10 sites. Keywords: Distributed Query Optimization, Database Statistics, Query Execution Plan, Genetic Algorithms, Operation Allocation.

Top-K dominating query returns the k objects that are dominated in a dataset. Finding dominated elements on incomplete dataset is more complicated than in case of complete dataset. In the real- time datasets the dataset can be incomplete due to various reasons such as data loss, privacy preservation or awareness problem etc. In this paper we aims to find top-k elements from an incomplete dataset by providing priority values to each dimension in the data object. Skyline based algorithm is applied for that purpose. Since the priority value is used while determining the dominance this method return the most suitable and efficient result than other previous methods. The output will be more preferable according to the users purpose. Dr. Prabha Shreeraj Nair | Prof. Dr. G. K. his talk will feature some of my recent research into the alternative uses for Solr facets and facet metadata. I will develop the idea that facets can be used to discover similarities between items and attributes in a search index, and show some interesting applications of this idea. A common takeaway is that using facets and facet metadata in non-conventional ways enables the semantic context of a query to be automatically tuned. This has important implications for user-centric and semantically focused relevance.

Storing data in relational databases is widely increasing to support keyword queries but search results does not gives effective answers to keyword query and hence it is inflexible from user perspective. It would be helpful to recognize such type of queries which gives results with low ranking. Here we estimate prediction of query performance to find out effectiveness of a search performed in response to query and features of such hard queries is studied by taking into account contents of the database and result list. One relevant problem of database is the presence of missing data and it can be handled by imputation. Here an inTeractive Retrieving-Inferring data imputation method (TRIP) is used which achieves retrieving and inferring alternately to fill the missing attribute values in the database. So by considering both the prediction of hard queries and imputation over the database, we can get better keyword search results.

Every team working on Information Retrieval software struggles with the task of evaluating how well their system performs in terms of search quality(at a specific point in time and historically). Evaluating search quality is important both to understand and size the improvement or regression of your search application across the development cycles, and to communicate such progress to relevant stakeholders. To satisfy these requirements an helpful tool must be: flexible and highly configurable for a technical user immediate, visual and concise for an optimal business utilization In the industry, and especially in the open source community, the landscape is quite fragmented: such requirements are often achieved using ad-hoc partial solutions that each time require a considerable amount of development and customization effort. To provide a standard, unified and approachable technology, we developed the Rated Ranking Evaluator (RRE), an open source tool for evaluating and measuring the search quality of a given search infrastructure. RRE is modular, compatible with multiple search technologies and easy to extend. It is composed by a core library and a set of modules and plugins that give it the flexibility to be integrated in automated evaluation processes and in continuous integrations flows. This talk will introduce RRE, it will describe its latest developments and demonstrate how it can be integrated in a project to measure and assess the search quality of your search application. The focus of the presentation will be on a live demo showing an example project with a set of initial relevancy issues that we will solve iteration after iteration: using RRE output feedbacks to gradually drive the improvement process until we reach an optimal balance between quality evaluation measures.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the worldâs largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

The action of the next cyber saga takes place in the mystical lands of the Asia-Pacific region, where the main characters began their digital activities in the middle of 2021 and qualitatively strengthened it in 2022. Corporate espionage, document theft, audio recordings, and data leaks from messaging platforms were all a matter of one day for Dark Pink. Their geographical focus may have started in the Asia-Pacific region, but their ambitions knew no bounds, targeting a European government ministry in a bold move to expand their portfolio. Their victim profile was as diverse as a UN meeting, targeting military organizations, government agencies, and even a religious organization. Because discrimination is not a fashionable agenda. In the world of cybercrime, they serve as a reminder that sometimes the most serious threats come in the most unassuming packages with a pink bow.
