2. Background
• Started in 1989, Indonesia has experienced on
implementing large scale Integrated Pest
Management – Farmer Field School Program (IPM-
FFS). More than a million farmers have been trained
through participatory education programme using
rice field as classroom and field laboratory.
• IPM-FFS Program resulted expert farmers, local
facilitators, local leadership and local champions on
implementing agroecology practices at local
• After IPM-FFS, the local champions continue to
develop local initiatives working with local
government, NGOs and Universities - in various forms
of program
• 2007 : Nastari Foundation, Plant Clinique IPB and
IPPHTI (fields school farmer organization) – started to
develop collaborative learning pocess at local
