The second lab managers’ meeting of the South-East Asia Laboratory NETwork (SEALNET) took place on 19 - 23 November 2018 in ICAR-IISS (Indian Institute of Soil Science), Bhopal, India. Lucrezia Caon, GSP Secretariat, FAO HQ

2. Established in December 2012to
improve soil governance and
promote sustainable soil
management

3. The Global Soil Partnership is an interactive, responsive and
voluntary partnership, open to governments, regional organizations,
institutions and other stakeholders at various levels. It includes two
types of partnership:
•GSP partners which come from a wide range of institutions such as
Governmental Organizations, Universities, Civil institutions,
Research centers, Soil science societies, UN agencies, NGOs,
Private companies, Farmer associations, Donors, etc.

•GSP national focal points designed by FAO members countries
(partners by default to the GSP).
Collate and distribute relevant communications, information material and
invitations to meetinfs and consultations, received from the GSPSecretariat to
the most appropriate government authorities and/or national institutions, as
well as any other relevant body not already registered as a GSP partner,
dealing with some matters within theircountry.

4. The Plenary Assembly constitutes the
decision making body of the Global Soil
Partnership. It embraces all the GSP
partners in a yearly meeting to review and
prioritize GSP actions while facilitating a
balanced regional decision-making
process.

5. The Global Soil Partnership Secretariat
is the coordination and facilitation body in
charge of facilitating the implementation of
the GSP actions through its regional
partnerships and networks. The GSP is
hosted by FAO in Rome, Italy in view of its
global mandate.

6. TheIntergovernmental TechnicalPanelon
Soils(ITPS)is composed of 27 top soil experts
representing all the regions of theworld.
TheITPShavethe followingfunctions:
• provide scientific and technical advice on global
soil issues primarily to the GSPand in relation to
specific requests submitted by global or regional
institutions.
• advocate for the inclusion of sustainablesoil
management into different development
agendas.
• review and follow up on the situation andissues
related to soils in the contexts of food security,
useand management of natural resources,
ecosystem services provision, climate change
adaptation and mitigation, and other relevant
areas.

7. TheIntergovernmental TechnicalPanelon
Soils(ITPS)is composed of 27 top soil experts
representing all the regions of theworld.
TheITPS have the followingfunctions:
• review and endorse from atechnical viewpoint
the GSPPlansof Action.
• follow up on the implementation of these Plans
of Action with due attention to their impact and
contributions to different global policies and
initiatives related to sustainable development,
MDGs,food security, climate changeadaptation
and other subjectmatters.
• in exceptional cases,when complex technical
matters arise, request the PlenaryAssemblyand
the Secretariat to form technical committees
aiming to gather specificadvice.

Launched on 1-2 November 2017:
Overall, GLOSOLAN will help achieve the objectives of the 5
Pillars of Action of the GSP
