How does it work??
• Fitting into the Generic Statistical Business Process Model
• Country Adaptation
• Living Methodology and what’s ahead
5. Methodological Documents
Sampling Guidelines
• Building and updating the frame (Multiple frame lists,
and area)
• Sampling design and estimation (stratification, multi-
stage)
• Computing Sample Size and Allocation
• Recommended R packages and formulas
• Sequencing modules
6. Methodological Documents
Methodological Notes (1 for each Module)
Core; Economy; Labour; Production Methods and Environment;
Machinery Equipment and Assets
• Context, measurement objectives, reference periods,
etc.
• Data Items
• Indicators (main indicators, including ref. to SDGs)
• Applicable definitions and classifications
8. Questionnaires
Pen and Paper Assisted Personal Interviews (PAPI)
• Generic paper questionnaires for each module are
developed.
• Paper questionnaires were designed in Microsoft Excel
allowing for easy editing.
9. Questionnaires
Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI)
• CAPI generic questionnaires and case management system
have been developed in Survey Solutions.
• Survey Solutions is CAPI software which is completely
free, and easy to use.
• There are support materials available online for Survey
Solutions, and other well known agricultural survey
initiatives such as the LSMS-ISA are also developed using
it.
10. Questionnaires
CAPI
• Survey Solutions has been used in 101 countries, for
560 surveys worldwide. The FAO with NSOs has
implemented 8 agricultural surveys (not including AGRIS).
• Survey Solutions also has web interviewing
functionality for potential use for large holdings.
12. Question Bank
Why?
• Provides easy access to linkages between data items and
indicators
• Provides a user friendly way to browse the questionnaire,
and review the related concepts and classifications.

20. Country Adaptation
Flexibility of Questionnaires
• Methods of measuring yield
• Crop at Farm Level vs. plot/parcel level
• Objective methods (GPS, crop cut) vs. Subjective Methods (Farmer
declaration)
21. Country Adaptation
Flexibility of Questionnaires
• Relevant crop lists, and categories
• Implement non-standard units of measurements relevant for
country.
• Map classifications used in the country with AGRIS (international)
• Take just a part (e.g. permanent crops, cost of production) and
integrate into existing questionnaire.
• Combine with data from administrative registers (possible
example: large agricultural enterprises).
• Take individual modules as independent questionnaires, or
integrated.
22. Country Adaptation
Flexibility of Sampling Design
• Sampling approach can be adapted to resources available
in the country.
• For example, agricultural household holdings can be
selected from a list frame or area frame.

• Using IT to speed up data processing and tabulation
• Farm and HH survey data integration
• Comparing 1 and multiple visits
• Measuring Labor Input

The AGRIS methodology can be adapted and applied according the preferences of the country. For example, the country prefers to use subjective methods such as farmer declaration for area and production, the AGRIS methodology has a set of questions implementing that approach.
However, if the country is currently using (or wishes to implement) objective measurement methods such as crop cutting, or GPS/Rope and Compass, the AGRIS toolkit is flexible enough to allow these methods to be implemented as well.
