Why Spatial Data? Why Map?
Spatial data or mapping products will illustrate the combined
effects of various layers or dimensions(i.e. biophysical, socio-
economic, etc.) at different spatial scales.
The maps can be reviewed by individuals, stakeholders,
markets and policy makers, either as an overall assessment of
the whole or for each of its layers for a range of enterprises.

  2. Before I move on, I will introduce RDA shortly where I work. RDA is developing Agricultural Science and Technology Through R & D, Technology transfer, extension service, and international cooperation For Stable…. Enhancement…. Enhancing…. and sharing….
  3. RDA was established at Suwon in 1962 and now we moved to a new complex in Jeonju 4 years ago RDA has 4 bureaus and 4 belonging National institutes and about 1,847 regular staffs and 2,000 supporting staffs.
  4. RDA is running 19 R & D agendas in the areas of Basic Science, Practical Application and Future Core Technologies.

  9. The terms ‘soil health’ and ‘soil quality’ are becoming increasingly familiar worldwide. A modern consensus definition of soil health is “ “. And soil quality is “ “. Another concept we express the importance of soil is “soil security”, which is “ “ The dimensions of soil security are; Capability, Condition, Capital, Connectivity and Codification
  10. To understand soils in terms of soil health (soil quality or soil condition), we need data.
  11. Modern concept of National soil survey was initiated in 1964. Countrywide soil surveying over the past five decades produced different scales of soil maps and soil fertility database. And now, Soil information obtained is publicly accessible on the web site.

  13. we also have Soil and Environment Monitoring Project and Soil Testing Project.
  14. Korean soils are classified into 7 Orders which are further divided into 17 Sub-Orders according to moisture regimes. So far 405 soil series have been identified in the country. - Younger soils, Inceptisols and Entisols, and Ultisols are dominant.
  15. In 1991, RDA distributed the fertilizer recommendation program ver.1.0 to the Local Agricultural Technology and Extension Center and that was possible for rice. And it was upgraded continually by addition of crops. A Web-based fertilizer recommendation system was developed in 2008 to manage the fertilization effectively.
  16. The fertilizer recommendation sheet contains general information like farmer’s name, address and soil characteristics such as soil series, texture, drainage condition in the field. And the results of soil analysis with an optimal range of each soil chemical properties. The amounts of fertilizer including inorganic and organic are calculated based on soil testing results.
