3. BASIC CATECHESIS: BASIC PRAYERS
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER, ALMIGHTY, CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH:
AND IN JESUS CHRIST, HIS ONLY SON, OUR LORD:
HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY:
SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE; WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED AND WAS BURIED: HE
DESCENDED INTO HELL:
ON THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE AGAIN FROM THE DEAD:
HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN, AND IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD THE
FATHER ALMIGHTY:
FROM THERE HE WILL COME AGAIN TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD:
I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT:
THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH: THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS:
THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS:
THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY:
AND THE LIFE EVERLASTING. AMEN.
4. I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER, ALMIGHTY,
MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH:
GOD THE FATHER-CREATOR
12. THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS:
THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY:
AND THE LIFE EVERLASTING. AMEN.
13. : THE LORD’S PRAYER
OUR FATHER, IN HEAVEN,
HOLY BE YOUR NAME; YOUR
KINGDOM COME;
YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH
AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY
BREAD;
AND FORGIVE US OUR SINS
AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO
SINS AGAINST US;
AND LEAD US NOT INTO THE
TEST,
BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
14. HAIL MARY
HAIL MARY, FULL OF GRACE.
THE LORD IS WITH YOU.
BLESSED ARE YOU AMONG
WOMEN,
AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT
OF YOUR WOMB, JESUS.
HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD,
PRAY FOR US SINNERS,
NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR
DEATH.
AMEN.
15. GLORY BE
GLORY BE TO THE
FATHER,
AND TO THE SON,
AND TO THE HOLY SPIRIT,
AS IT WAS IN THE
BEGINNING,
IS NOW, AND EVER SHALL
BE,
WORLD WITHOUT END.
AMEN.
16. ACT OF CONTRITION
O MY GOD, I AM HEARTILY
SORRY FOR HAVING OFFENDED
YOU, AND I DETEST ALL MY SINS
BECAUSE OF THY JUST
PUNISHMENT, BUT MOST OF ALL
BECAUSE I HAVE OFFENDED YOU
MY GOD, WHO IS ALL GOOD AND
DESERVING OF ALL MY LOVE. I
FIRMLY RESOLVE, WITH THE
HELP OF THY GRACE, TO SIN NO
MORE, AND TO AVOID THE NEAR
18. WHAT IS A SACRAMENT?
• SACRED SIGN
• INSTITUTED BY CHRIST
• TO GIVE GRACE
NOTE; THAT A SACRAMENT IS ENTRUSTED TO THE
CHURCH(CCC 1131)

21. 1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of the
whole Christian life, the gateway to
life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis
ianua),4 and the door which gives
access to the other sacraments.
Through Baptism we are freed from
sin and reborn as sons of God; we
become members of Christ, are
incorporated into the Church and
made sharers in her mission:
"Baptism is the sacrament of
regeneration through water in the
word."5
22. 1285 Baptism, the Eucharist, and the
sacrament of Confirmation together
constitute the "sacraments of Christian
initiation," whose unity must be
safeguarded. It must be explained to
the faithful that the reception of the
sacrament of Confirmation is
necessary for the completion of
baptismal grace.89 For "by the
sacrament of Confirmation, [the
baptized] are more perfectly bound to
the Church and are enriched with a
special strength of the Holy Spirit.
Hence they are, as true witnesses of
Christ, more strictly obliged to spread
23. 1322 The holy Eucharist
completes Christian
initiation. Those who have
been raised to the dignity of
the royal priesthood by
Baptism and configured
more deeply to Christ by
Confirmation participate
with the whole community in
the Lord's own sacrifice by
means of the Eucharist
24. 1422 "Those who approach the
sacrament of Penance obtain
pardon from God's mercy for the
offense committed against him,
and are, at the same time,
reconciled with the Church which
they have wounded by their sins
and which by charity, by
example, and by prayer labors
for their conversion."4

26. 1499 "By the sacred anointing of the sick and the
prayer of the priests the whole Church commends
those who are ill to the suffering and glorified
Lord, that he may raise them up and save them.
And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the
good of the People of God by freely uniting
themselves to the Passion and death of Christ."98
27. 1536 Holy Orders is the sacrament
through which the mission
entrusted by Christ to his
apostles continues to be
exercised in the Church until
the end of time: thus it is the
sacrament of apostolic ministry.
It includes three degrees:
episcopate, presbyterate, and
diaconate.
28. 1601 "The matrimonial covenant,
by which a man and a woman
establish between themselves
a partnership of the whole of
life, is by its nature ordered
toward the good of the
spouses and the procreation
and education of offspring;
this covenant between
baptized persons has been
raised by Christ the Lord to the
dignity of a sacrament."84
