17. CONCEPT STATEMENT: ENTERING INTO THE EARTHSHIP HOTEL NEAR TAOS NEW MEXICO, ONE IS IMMEDIATELY AMAZED HOW THIS HOTEL IS SELF-SUSTAINABLE AND
CREATED USING MAINLY ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS. THE FURNISHINGS AND ACCESSORIES THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL ARE MID-CENTURY MODERN AND ADD TO THE UNIQUE EXPERIENCE THAT
ONE HAS WHEN STAYING AT THE HOTEL. THE WALL OF WINDOWS RUNNING DOWN THE SOUTHSIDE, ALLOWS NATURAL LIGHT TO FLOW INTO THE SPA CE AND NOURISH THE PLANTS GROWING
ALONG THE WALL. IN THE LOBBY AREA, THERE IS A QUAINT SITTING AREA THAT HAS TWO SWAN CHAIR’S AND A SWAN SETTEE IN A RECYCLED RED ULTRASUEDE. BEHIND THE SETTEE ONE
NOTICES THE CONCRETE WALLS PAINTED A PALE GREY INLAID WITH RED GLASS BOTTLES IN A WAVE PATTERN. LOOKING UP ONE NOTICES THE RECLAIMED WOOD BEAMS ON THE CEILING
WHICH ARE BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND FUNCTIONAL. MOVING FURTHER INTO THE SPACE, THERE IS A LARGE CUSTOM RECEPTION DESK FOR CHECKIN G-IN AND OUT OF THE HOTEL, AND FOR
PROVIDING ONE ANSWERS TO ANY QUESTIONS A GUEST MAY HAVE. THIS DESK IS COVERED IN A RICH FSC CERTIFIED WALNUT WOOD VENEER AND HAS A BEAUTIFUL TERRAZZO COUNTER WITH
RECYCLED GREY GLASS. BEHIND THE RECEPTION DESK, ONE TRULY GETS THE MID-CENTURY FEEL OF THIS HOTEL WITH FLOOR TO CEILING RECLAIMED WOOD PANELING IN A MODERN DESIGN.
THERE IS AN ADA ACCESSIBLE RESTROOM LOCATED IN THE LOBBY FOR BOTH GUEST AND EMPLOYEES. LEAVING THE LOBBY AREA, THERE IS A HALL LEADING ONE AWAY THAT ALL OF THE
GUEST ROOMS ARE OFF OF. THE HALL MAKES IT A PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCE GOING TO ONE’S ROOM BECAUSE IT IS ALONG THE WINDOW WALL AND HAS PLANTS GROWING ALONG IT. EACH
GUESTROOM CREATES AN EXPERIENCE THAT NO OTHER HOTEL OFFERS. THE ROOMS HAVE THE STANDARD TWO FULL BEDS AND OTHER FURNISHINGS OF A TYPICAL HOTEL ROOM, BUT
EVERYTHING IS BOTH ECO-FRIENDLY AND MID-CENTURY MODERN. BEING IN THE SPACE, ONE IS INTRIGUED THAT EVERYTHING IN THE ROOM IS POWERED BY SOLAR AND WIND ENERGY, AND
THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING OR HEATING BECAUSE THE BUILDING IS BUILT FOR THERMAL COMFORT. THE RESTROOM ATTACHED TO EACH RO OM IS VERY FUNCTIONAL BUT REMINDS GUEST
OF WATER CONSERVATION, SINCE THE HOTEL USES ONLY WATER IT COLLECTS. LEAVING THE HOTEL ONE WALKS A SHORT DISTANCE AND ENTERS VERDE, THE RESTAURANT THAT IS PART OF
THE HOTEL. THIS RESTAURANT GIVES GUEST A TRULY COMMUNITY DINING EXPERIENCE. THERE IS ONE LARGE CUSTOM TABLE IN A FSC CERTIF IED WALNUT THAT SEATS FOURTEEN PEOPLE AT
ANY GIVEN TIME. THE TABLE IS FLANKED IN LIME GREEN SERIES SEVEN CHAIRS. ONE NOTICES THAT ON EITHER SIDE OF THE TABLE, THE W ALL HAS A CHALKBOARD WHICH DISPLAYS THE SMALL
MENU OF THE VERDE WHICH CHANGES DAILY WITH MENU ITEMS CREATED FROM WHAT IS GROWN IN BOTH THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT ITSELF ALO NG WITH LOCAL ORGANIC INGREDIENTS.
THE NORTH WALL HAS THE SAME MODERN RECLAIMED WOOD PANELING THAT TIES THE TWO SPACES TOGETHER. THERE IS A ADA RESTROOM OFF TH E DINING AREA FOR BOTH GUEST AND
EMPLOYEES. OFF THE DINING AREA THERE IS ALSO A EFFICIENT KITCHEN AND A SMALL OFFICE. ANYONE STAYING AT THE EARTHSHIP HOTEL AN D DINING AT VERDE RESTAURANT WILL BE
AMAZED BY AND ENJOY WHAT LIVING IN EARTHSHIP CAN PROVIDE.
