2. Those who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community are
constantly under scrutiny and discrimination. It is
especially hard on LGBTQ youth who face more
barriers when coming out. People and laws are very hard
on those who go against heteronormative culture, which
impacts the lives of many.
I am very fortunate to be a straight identifying female so
I am not directly impacted by this issue. Due to this, I
think it is important for me to use my privilege to get the
message out. I believe that it is very important for those
outside of the community to advocate for those whose
voices are not heard.

If you are interested in donating follow these steps:
4. I made bracelets that I sold for five dollars by
spreading the word through social media and by
word of mouth. The bracelets were made from heishi
beads and have colors that match the pride flag. All
of the proceeds from the bracelets will be donated
directly to the Trevor Project. I ended up selling
fourteen bracelets for five dollars each ending with a
total of seventy five dollars donated to the Trevor
Project.
According to their website, donating to the Trevor
project will “train a record number of crisis
counselors so we can connect with more LGBTQ
youth, continue and expand all of our crisis services
24/7 and for free, expand our advocacy, research,
and education efforts, and save young LGBTQ
lives”. It also goes on to talk about how donating will
show support and pride for the LGBTQ community
and goes on to talk about how the Trevor Project
helps many LGBTQ youth who are struggling.

6. Donating and volunteering are one of my favorite
things to do because I just love helping people. I
enjoyed combining my love for making bracelets
and making a difference.
Actually being able to donate to an organization like
this felt very rewarding and made me feel like I
made a difference. I have had so many friends in my
life who were either scared to come out or felt very
alone because they were a part of the LGBTQ
community and it was a very hard thing to watch as
a friend. By donating to the Trevor Project like this I
realize I would love to do something like this later in
life as well.
reflection
If I were to do this again I would probably go
through selling organizations like Etsy so that I can
broaden my audience. Other than that I feel this
project was executed wonderfully.
