- 5. Impact of Raahgiri on safe access Increased awareness & changes in habit connectkaro.org #CK2015 1. Increased sensitivity towards others on the road [fatalities reduced from 5 in Jan-Oct 2013 to 0 in Nov 2013-Oct 2014] 2. Popularly of Raahgiri has introduced many to NMT options for commute: • 60% of participants cycled/walked/took metro to venue • 28% bought cycles post Raahgiri • 87% have started walking/cycling for short trips 3. People are getting to experience streets for walking/ running/ cycling/ exercising • 60% of these people would otherwise spend Sunday morning watching TV or sleeping • The experience & fitness should help them switch to NMT/public transport

- Raahgiri Day is a street event that provides citizens with the opportunity to reclaim their streets, connect with their community, celebrate their city and therefore reclaim their lives. On the day, one or more streets in the neighborhood (route map attached below), are be cordoned off for citizens for 4-5 hours in the morning to come together in large numbers and use the street for recreation that promotes health, wellbeing, fitness, togetherness and joy. Children and adults are invited to bike, skate, run and walk; to partake in community leisure activities such as street games, street dancing; to learn yoga, aerobics and zumba. The weekly event celebrates the fact that cities are meant for people, not cars. Arrangements are made so that neighborhood residents are not inconvenienced and emergency services are not affected.
