• A group of people; a community of people
having shared customs, laws and
organizations.
• A society is a group of people involved in
persistent social interaction, or a large social
grouping sharing the same geographical or
social territory.

ethnic, linguistic, religious and caste divisions

Illiteracy creates social problems – lack of
awareness, superstitions, etc

while 3,976 villages have a population of
10,000+.
