Reflection on collaborative and individual peer teaching practice
Teaching practice is the dream of every B-Ed student and is a part of third semester
syllabus. The Covid pandemic had prevented us from going to school and have our teaching
practice. But the developed information technology helped us to take classes to our peers through
an online mode; thanks to the digital Medias. To make us familiar with the digital technology of
teaching our class tutor arranged a peer teaching program. Since it was our first attempt through
online, sir formed collaborative groups containing 3 student teachers and we took shared classes.
The peer teaching started from October 5th
Monday. It was really an amazing day for all
of us. Before the day Jijan sir prepared a schedule of peer teaching. According to the schedule
we all prepared lesson templates and submitted to sir before taking classes. For that, in the first
day we all were called in a Google meet and after an hour two Google meet rooms were created
and we were divided to two groups.
October 5 Monday
The class started by 10 am in the morning. All the students were asked to join in the
Google meet by our class tutor Jijan sir. We all joined and he gave a small introduction. The first
class should be taken by Aleena,Jiya and Ancy. So they made their videos on and they started to
teach considering all the rest as 9th
standard students as they are going to take a chapter from 9th
standard textbook. They took the poem Bang the drum which was it poem on the 9th Standard
English text of Kerala state syllabus. Aleena started the class then through Jiya, Ancy
concluded the class. The class was a very much interactive one. They had attractive slides,videos
and music in their presentation. They presented their whole screen through the present icon in
Google meet. They put their videos on during the time of teaching so we students were able to
see teachers during the class. The class was so much nice and interactive. At last the teacher
concluded their class through a quiz organized through padlet. The class was so nice that we
didn't feel that the teachers were doing their first Peer teaching. After the class Jijan sir gave
a small appreciation of the class. He also invited the next group to continue the class.
The next group also consisted of three teachers they are Asha, Treeshma and Steffy. They
were also that much confident that they break the ice very easily. They took the chapter the
Danger of A Single Story written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Three of them took the speech
in their own way. They used PowerPoint slides and the video of the original speech. The class
was very much good that all the students actively responded to it. They selected some students at
random and gave them opportunities to readout the speech. The class was concluded by giving
the students a quiz in quizzes.
The next group consisted of Sabin,Shijini and Merin. They took the chapter The Story
The Little Round Red House. The class was so much appealing. They also used pictures,videos
and PowerPoint slides. The class was very much interactive. They too asked questions at the end
of the class.
Each student teacher took a time of 25-30 minutes. On the first day first two classes were
in a common Google meet with all the rest of our classmates were the audience. But after that sir
created a parallel classroom and asked half of the students to be in the parallel class and half in
the same class itself
October 6th
Tuesday
From the experience of the previous day we all were excited to take the classes and to
attend others classes. One more specialty for that day was that, it was the day in which I got the
chance to take a class. Just like the previous day after a brief introduction from Jijan sir, the peer
teaching classes started. The first chance was for Dhanya,Joshni and Maneesha. They took the
class on the chapter Listen to the Mountains by Kaveri Nambeeshan. They took a wonderful
class. Even though there were some network connectivity issues, the three of them managed to
take a good class. They used attractive PowerPoint slides, videos, images and voice notes. They
also concluded the class by asking some questions to the students.
The next chance was for ours.We three where in the group Divya,Arsha and Liji. We
took class on the poem Song of the Rain by Khalil Gibran. We got some network issues that we
can't continue the class but sir give us time to take the class again after a short break then our
class was postponed after the next group’s class. In the second chance, all the net issues were
solved and we could take the class wonderfully. We used PowerPoint slides, ice breaking video
and some images relating to the poem. We gave chances for students to interact with us. They
gave us a great Co-operation. It was a wonderful experience. We concluded the class by asking
some questions relating to the poem. Students replied with correct answers.
The next group consisted of Sabin,Shijini and Merin. They took class on the chapter
Learning The Game. The class was so much interesting. They also used pictures, videos and
PowerPoint slides. The class was very much interactive. They too asked questions at the end of
the class. It was their second collaborative peer teaching class.
October 7th
Wednesday
It was the third day of our collaborative peer teaching practice. Asha, Treeshma and
Steffy took the first class. Since it was their second class they were very much familiar in
handling the class through online. They took the play My Sister’s Shoes. They familiarized us
with camera angles and other techniques used in films as well as plays. The class was very much
interesting and interactive. They used their attractive PowerPoint slides videos images and voice
notes. They concluded the class by asking some questions to the students.
The second group consisted of Dhanya, Joshni and Manesha. They took the class on the
chapter The Happiness Machine. Since the name of the chapter is related to happiness, they
asked the students to show their happy faces to teachers. Students did exactly what they asked.
The three of them took the class in a very interactive way. They used their PowerPoint slides,
videos, images and voice notes. To check the understanding of students they asked some
questions and students replied it with right answers.
The next chance was for ours. We three were in the group Divya, Arsha and Liji. We
took continuation class on the poem Song of the Rain by Khalil Gibran. We took the class with
the help of PowerPoint slides, videos and some images relating to the poem. We gave chances
for students to interact with us. They gave us a great Co-operation. Since it was our second
chance for teaching it seemed more comfortable than the previous day. We concluded the class
by asking some questions relating to the poem. Students replied with correct answers.
October 8th
Thursday
After three days of shared classes, sir asked us to take individual classes for the
day. Six student teachers volunteered and they took individual classes. 3 teachers took class in
the first Google meet and other three in the parallel Google meet. We got three teachers
Sabin,Shijini and Jiya. Sabin took class on the chapter Meternity; Shijini on the continuation of
the chapter The Little Round Red House and Jiya on the poem From a Railway Carriage. The
three of them used power point slides audio and video in an effective way. They also followed
the time. Even though the class was not collaborative, they were confident enough to take and
manage the classes through online mode.
The peer teaching practice was a very interesting as well as effective one. It made us
confident. We all learned to use digital resources effectively in a class. All the student teachers
were a great help to each other. At times, when someone interfere some net issues the others
managed the class as well as helped them to complete the class. Inspiration from our fellow
classmates was very much. Sir also consoled us the time of net issues. Sir inspired us to use more
and more digital resources. Once again I thank our Jijan sir for giving us a wonderful opportunity
even in this Covid pandemic situation.

  • 2. Reflection on collaborative and individual peer teaching practice Teaching practice is the dream of every B-Ed student and is a part of third semester syllabus. The Covid pandemic had prevented us from going to school and have our teaching practice. But the developed information technology helped us to take classes to our peers through an online mode; thanks to the digital Medias. To make us familiar with the digital technology of teaching our class tutor arranged a peer teaching program. Since it was our first attempt through online, sir formed collaborative groups containing 3 student teachers and we took shared classes. The peer teaching started from October 5th Monday. It was really an amazing day for all of us. Before the day Jijan sir prepared a schedule of peer teaching. According to the schedule we all prepared lesson templates and submitted to sir before taking classes. For that, in the first day we all were called in a Google meet and after an hour two Google meet rooms were created and we were divided to two groups.
  • 3. October 5 Monday The class started by 10 am in the morning. All the students were asked to join in the Google meet by our class tutor Jijan sir. We all joined and he gave a small introduction. The first class should be taken by Aleena,Jiya and Ancy. So they made their videos on and they started to teach considering all the rest as 9th standard students as they are going to take a chapter from 9th standard textbook. They took the poem Bang the drum which was it poem on the 9th Standard English text of Kerala state syllabus. Aleena started the class then through Jiya, Ancy concluded the class. The class was a very much interactive one. They had attractive slides,videos and music in their presentation. They presented their whole screen through the present icon in Google meet. They put their videos on during the time of teaching so we students were able to see teachers during the class. The class was so much nice and interactive. At last the teacher concluded their class through a quiz organized through padlet. The class was so nice that we didn't feel that the teachers were doing their first Peer teaching. After the class Jijan sir gave a small appreciation of the class. He also invited the next group to continue the class. The next group also consisted of three teachers they are Asha, Treeshma and Steffy. They were also that much confident that they break the ice very easily. They took the chapter the Danger of A Single Story written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Three of them took the speech in their own way. They used PowerPoint slides and the video of the original speech. The class was very much good that all the students actively responded to it. They selected some students at random and gave them opportunities to readout the speech. The class was concluded by giving the students a quiz in quizzes.
  • 4. The next group consisted of Sabin,Shijini and Merin. They took the chapter The Story The Little Round Red House. The class was so much appealing. They also used pictures,videos and PowerPoint slides. The class was very much interactive. They too asked questions at the end of the class. Each student teacher took a time of 25-30 minutes. On the first day first two classes were in a common Google meet with all the rest of our classmates were the audience. But after that sir created a parallel classroom and asked half of the students to be in the parallel class and half in the same class itself October 6th Tuesday From the experience of the previous day we all were excited to take the classes and to attend others classes. One more specialty for that day was that, it was the day in which I got the chance to take a class. Just like the previous day after a brief introduction from Jijan sir, the peer teaching classes started. The first chance was for Dhanya,Joshni and Maneesha. They took the class on the chapter Listen to the Mountains by Kaveri Nambeeshan. They took a wonderful class. Even though there were some network connectivity issues, the three of them managed to take a good class. They used attractive PowerPoint slides, videos, images and voice notes. They also concluded the class by asking some questions to the students.
  • 5. The next chance was for ours.We three where in the group Divya,Arsha and Liji. We took class on the poem Song of the Rain by Khalil Gibran. We got some network issues that we can't continue the class but sir give us time to take the class again after a short break then our class was postponed after the next group’s class. In the second chance, all the net issues were solved and we could take the class wonderfully. We used PowerPoint slides, ice breaking video and some images relating to the poem. We gave chances for students to interact with us. They gave us a great Co-operation. It was a wonderful experience. We concluded the class by asking some questions relating to the poem. Students replied with correct answers. The next group consisted of Sabin,Shijini and Merin. They took class on the chapter Learning The Game. The class was so much interesting. They also used pictures, videos and PowerPoint slides. The class was very much interactive. They too asked questions at the end of the class. It was their second collaborative peer teaching class. October 7th Wednesday It was the third day of our collaborative peer teaching practice. Asha, Treeshma and Steffy took the first class. Since it was their second class they were very much familiar in handling the class through online. They took the play My Sister’s Shoes. They familiarized us with camera angles and other techniques used in films as well as plays. The class was very much interesting and interactive. They used their attractive PowerPoint slides videos images and voice notes. They concluded the class by asking some questions to the students. The second group consisted of Dhanya, Joshni and Manesha. They took the class on the chapter The Happiness Machine. Since the name of the chapter is related to happiness, they
  • 6. asked the students to show their happy faces to teachers. Students did exactly what they asked. The three of them took the class in a very interactive way. They used their PowerPoint slides, videos, images and voice notes. To check the understanding of students they asked some questions and students replied it with right answers. The next chance was for ours. We three were in the group Divya, Arsha and Liji. We took continuation class on the poem Song of the Rain by Khalil Gibran. We took the class with the help of PowerPoint slides, videos and some images relating to the poem. We gave chances for students to interact with us. They gave us a great Co-operation. Since it was our second chance for teaching it seemed more comfortable than the previous day. We concluded the class by asking some questions relating to the poem. Students replied with correct answers. October 8th Thursday After three days of shared classes, sir asked us to take individual classes for the day. Six student teachers volunteered and they took individual classes. 3 teachers took class in the first Google meet and other three in the parallel Google meet. We got three teachers Sabin,Shijini and Jiya. Sabin took class on the chapter Meternity; Shijini on the continuation of the chapter The Little Round Red House and Jiya on the poem From a Railway Carriage. The three of them used power point slides audio and video in an effective way. They also followed the time. Even though the class was not collaborative, they were confident enough to take and manage the classes through online mode.
  • 7. The peer teaching practice was a very interesting as well as effective one. It made us confident. We all learned to use digital resources effectively in a class. All the student teachers were a great help to each other. At times, when someone interfere some net issues the others managed the class as well as helped them to complete the class. Inspiration from our fellow classmates was very much. Sir also consoled us the time of net issues. Sir inspired us to use more and more digital resources. Once again I thank our Jijan sir for giving us a wonderful opportunity even in this Covid pandemic situation. .
