Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, June 2nd 2010 --- Two hundred years ago, Buenos Aires was the center of events
during the May Revolution, which triggered off events that led to Argentina's declaration of
independence from Spain six years later. This week, 6 million Argentineans, visitors from neighboring
countries and foreign dignitaries and travelers came together in Buenos Aires to celebrate Argentina’s
200th birthday with impressive parades, festivals and performances. ILS3 and the Discover.Travel
Group’s clients had the opportunity to be part of this event.
The Presidents of Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela,
Ecuador, Uruguay, Honduras, Bolivia and Chile
and 19 officials from all over the world visited
Buenos Aires during these days. They enjoyed
spectacular shows, parades and concerts with
more than 15,000 participants. More than two
million Argentinean flags turned Buenos Aires to a
blue and white ocean. The first highlights of the
events, which are taking place in Argentina
throughout 2010 were the festivities on May 24th
and 25th. The opening show featured a scenario
with the obelisk on pairs of artists. La Bomba de
Tiempo, Palo Pandolfo, Patricia Sosa, Hilda
Lizarazu, Pablo Lescano, Kevin Johansen and
many more offered a free open air concert and at
midnight the 6 million people sang the National
Anthem of Argentina.
On May 25 of 2010 the Cultural Center of the Bicentennial was inaugurated and will operate in the
former Palacio de Correos, in the City of Buenos Aires. Another long-expected inauguration was the re-
opening of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires , after three years of closure due to restoration works, on
May 25th, called “Día de Patria”, or “Motherland Day” in Argentina, exactly 102 years after its first
opening. The theatre’s high-quality acoustics make it one of the top five theatres for opera in the world.
With over 2500 seats, it was built to reflect, and enhance the rich cultural life of Argentina. Additionally
to a historic city tour and the famous Tango Shows, assisting an opera or a ballet at the Teatro Colon will
be another highlight for culturally interested travelers in Buenos Aires, assure the ILS3 and
Discover.Travel Group’s Specialized Travel Consultants. This season, the theater features Swan Lake, La
2. Bohème and Don Giovanni. With the personalized Luxury Travel Packages to Argentina by the
Discover.Travel Group, travelers are offered advice on the program and can include their favorite opera
