Bendery Fortress
On the high right bank of the Dniester is one of the oldest towns of the region, the city of Bendery. Every
corner of the city keeps traces, events of the past. A unique monument of the history and architecture of
the Middle Ages in the city is the Bendery Fortress. And today the modern appearance of the fortress is an
earthen rampart, a deep ditch lined with limestone, towering towers of the citadel and lower fortifications,
and the fortress walls confirm its former power.
In the fortress there are two museums: the history of the Bendery fortress and medieval instruments of
torture.
In October 2012, a souvenir shop "Besiktas" began to operate, where you can buy a variety of souvenirs,
calendars and magnets with the image of the Bender fortress, as well as souvenirs made of wood and
ceramics.
On September 12, 2008, the first church service was held on the territory of the fortress in the Temple of St.
Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, and a blessing was given for the beginning of the restoration work. In
2009, the head of the Russian Imperial House Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna visited and visited the serf
church of Alexander Nevsky, and a year later the Tsarevich Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich visited the
church. These were not the first visits of representatives of the House of Romanovs to Bendery Fortress,
earlier in 1828 the Russian Emperor Nicholas I visited the temple with his family, and in 1877 there was the
Emperor Alexander II. May 9, 1916 the church together with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarevich Alexei
and four daughters visited the Emperor Nicholas II. In September 2013, during a two-day visit, the Patriarch

Excursions and Activities
Causeni
The Assumption Church in the town of Causeni is a historical and architectural landmark. This is one of the
oldest and most valuable artistic relics of Moldova. The exact date of construction of the only church in
Bessarabia with wall murals is not established. There are different opinions on whether this is in 1455, when
Causeni was founded, whether the period of the reign of the prince Vasile Lupu (1634 - 1653), or even later.
The temple is located at the foot of the hill about 80 km south of Chisinau. It is noteworthy that the church
in Causeni is halfway to the ground. As one legend says, the Tatars agreed to the construction of an
Orthodox church, provided that it would not be higher than a soldier sitting on a horse. The temple
deepened in the ground is almost invisible beyond the stone fence, above which only its tiled, low roof
protrudes, and cross on a small, deaf drum.
Also interesting are the engineering features of the structure. In the construction of the temple an unusual
method of strengthening seismic resistance was used: with the help of peculiar shock absorbers, wooden
beams, which were laid by three belts in horizontal grooves of walls along the entire perimeter of the
building. All this speaks about the architectural and engineering skills of the builders of the church.

Curchi monastery
In the picturesque region of Moldova, in the Orhei district, 45 km from Chisinau, there is an ancient Kurki
monastery founded in 1678.
One of the legends of the monastery says that the founder of the monastery was Iordache Kur, at that time
a resident of the village of Morozeni, located near. According to legend it was Iordache Kur who founded
and built on his land a wooden church, which he named in honor of Saint Dmitry.
A lot of legends go around the history of Kurki Monastery. One of them says that for a long time in this part
of the Moldovan Cod, a band of robbers committed robberies and robberies. The head of this gang was
Iordache Kur. One evening, the bandits met a man and a woman on a deserted road. The robbers killed the
poor people, and at the time when they began to rob the dead, Iordache Kuri admitted to the murdered of
his parents. This crazy case so shocked Iordache Cour, that he took monastic vows and founded a
monastery. Most of his gang did the same. The monastery was laid at the site of the death of the parents of
Jordan.
