Volvo Cars recognized that
traceability of critical minerals such
as cobalt is one of their main
sustainability challenges.
Circulor provided visibility into
Volvo’s entire battery supply chain
for EVs to provide full traceability of
cobalt from mine through
manufacturing.
Volvo & their suppliers were able to
monitor and manage risks in their
supply chain via Circulor’s
dashboards.
Volvo announced this work at the reveal of their first all
electric car, XC40 Recharge, showing consumers and
supply chain participants that they could back their
claims of transparency, traceability, and responsible
sourcing – creating trust between participants along the
supply chain.
The initial cobalt project was so successful, Volvo
expanded it’s work with Circulor to track 8 minerals
in their supply chain and became an investor in
Circulor.

▸Regulation applies to the inclusion of cells and modules
placed on the market which are ready for use or
assembly.
▸The extension of the provisions applies to all electric
vehicle batteries, removing the 2kWH capacity that was
proposed by the Commission.
▸The regulation now applies to Light Means of
Transportation (LMT), such as electric scooters and bikes.
▸A QR code is to be applied to all batteries placed into
