Direct the admission, care and general flow of the surgical suite pre-operatively,
intra-operatively and post-operatively for the neuro-surgical operating room.
Use computers for 1)documenting data related to pt.s care including assessment
results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes. 2)
continuing education courses, work email correspondence, event research,
in-house paging, systems protocols and service specific preference card
maintenance.
Make on-going assessments which are related to patient care, safety concerns,
schedule changes and follow-through with appropriate necessary communication
related to patient care, staffing, physician information, vendor related issues,
instrument related issues, on-call physician communications, and patient post-op
transfer information.
2. Maintain a structured and professional work environment in the neuro-surgery
operating rooms.
Operate surgical equipment, set-up in-services that train staff how to operate said
equipment, learn how to trouble shoot surgical equipment in the operating room
and arrange for repairs when equipment malfunctions.
Maintain and update Neuro-Surgery posting sheets log book.
Communicate with the scheduling department concerning up-coming procedures,
proper scheduling related to procedure, and correct preference card assigning per
procedure requirements.
Participate in leadership meetings for the surgery department. Attend OR charge
nurse meetings and follow-through with department leadership requests pertaining
to charge nurse duties.
Maintain compliance for annual department education requirements, HIPPA
adherence, CPR certification, TB Fit test, SIPPS measures and Time-out protocols.
Order and coordinate appropriate education and dispensing of specialty supplies
for neuro-surgery.
Circulate and scrub in the operating room.
Precept new nurses as well as scrub techs in neuro-surgery.
Train and assist staff with computer charting and patient charges specific to neuro-
surgery.
Maintain flexibility and ability to prioritize and adapt during emergencies to ensure
ideal surgical-patient outcomes.
Meet with upper management to discuss personnel and administrative issues and
address and solve problems among staff.
Provide administrative support and patient care for the surgery department and
specifically for the neuro-surgery service.
Provide guidance to OR staff on administering care to new patients or those with
special needs, answering questions and providing nursing outcome based rationale.
Assess and monitor patients including monitoring vital signs, conferring with doctors
on a patient's progress and reporting special circumstances.
Collect capital purchase equipment requests from surgeons annually. Research and
gather data related to these items. Submit a financial quote to the OR director for
items requested, as well as prioritization of items based on need, relativity for
service line, function, projected patient benefit, as well as any other benefits.
Document data related to patients' care including assessment results,
interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes.
Assess urgent and emergent health conditions using both physiologically and
technologically derived data.
Administer blood and blood product transfusions or intravenous infusions, monitoring
patients for adverse reactions.
