The Austrian Ecolabel is a voluntary certification system that provides an eco-label for sustainable tourism businesses and products. It aims to offer guidance to consumers and motivate businesses to develop more environmentally friendly options. There are over 50 mandatory criteria and 100 optional criteria across various categories that tourism businesses must meet to receive the label, such as standards for energy use, water and waste management, food and cleaning supplies. Receiving the eco-label helps tourism businesses act as catalysts for sustainable development in their local regions by supporting areas like mobility, local food and jobs, culture, and resource supply chains through their cooperative networks.

• Most important aspect: environmentally friendly mobility

lodging houses
• Chance for regional food providers etc.
• Challenge through quantity of pilgrims in Spain- different
situation in Austria
15. The Challenge for Rural Areas:
Resilience through diversity

the capacity to survive and rely
on their own resources?
• How can businesses
successfully exploit market
