1. Replace the cream
filling with peanut
butter. Now you have
peanut butter Oreos
Combine Oreos with ice
cream. Combine Oreos
with milk and now u have
an Oreo Milkshake
Adapt the Oreo by
crushing it into the
shape of a pie crust
Could Oreos be bigger, smaller,
change the shape? Mini Oreos.
Triple double Oreo, Oreo Stix
Use Oreo to learn about
the phases of the moon
Inside-out Oreos!
S- substitute BRAINSTORMING IDEAS

C– combine E - eliminate
A – adapt P – put to other use
M – magnify, minify, modify
Remove the filling and now you
have a cookie without creme
2. This how the lesson can go
So far we have covered the problem-solving technique and the Delphi technique. Today we will be looking at another way to get new and
different ideas, a creative checklist technique called SCAMPER. SCAMPER is a method which allows you to create new ideas from 7 different
perspectives. Now let’s take a look at what each letter stands for:
Substitute: What can be replaced? (For example, components, materials, people)
Combine: What can be combined? (For example, other features)
Adapt: What other context of this product or service can your product be put into? (Such as new elements or functions)
Modify, Magnify, minify: What can be modified? (For example, change the size, shape, colour, or other attribute)
Put to other use: Could you use the product for another purpose, a different use, or use it in another industry?
Eliminate: What can be removed or simplified?
Reverse or rearrange: What can be swapped or flipped?
So, if we were to apply this method using a product how will we do it. Take Oreos for example
S- substitute. If we replace the peanut butter for the cream filling you have Peanut Butter Oreo.
C- combine. If we combine Oreos with ice cream you have Oreo-Cookies-and-Cream. Or Oreos with milk and now u have an Oreo Milkshake
A – adapt. What else can I put the cookies into? Adapt the Oreo by crushing it into the shape of a pie crust. And there you go Oreo pie crust.
M- Modify, Magnify, minify. Could Oreos be bigger, smaller, change the shape? Mini Oreos. Triple double Oreo, Oreo Stix
P - put to other uses. Putting what you already have to other uses. Use Oreo to learn about the phases of the moon.
E – eliminate. Remove the filling and now you have a cookie without creme
R- rearrange or reverse. Inside-out Oreos!
3. Now each of you will choose an object from the box. Every object has a Letter, Sam has a P, Vee has a M. So now I want each of you to write
down or think about how you will substitute the product, modify the product, or adapt the product. It all depends on the letter you have. Right, so
you have two minutes. You can start
