Jesus' crucifixion and last words (John 19:17-30
1.
2.
3. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the
place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called
Golgotha). 18Here they crucified him, and with
him two others—one on each side and Jesus
in the middle.
4. Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to
the cross. It read:|sc JESUS OF NAZARETH,
THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20Many of the Jews
read this sign, for the place where Jesus was
crucified was near the city, and the sign was
written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21The
chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate,
"Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that
this man claimed to be king of the Jews."
5. Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have
written.“ When the soldiers crucified Jesus,
they took his clothes, dividing them into four
shares, one for each of them, with the
undergarment remaining. This garment was
seamless, woven in one piece from top to
bottom.
6. "Let's not tear it," they said to one another.
"Let's decide by lot who will get it.“ This
happened that the scripture might be fulfilled
which said, "They divided my garments among
them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is
what the soldiers did.
7. Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his
mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and
Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother
there, and the disciple whom he loved
standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear
woman, here is your son," and to the disciple,
"Here is your mother." From that time on, this
disciple took her into his home.
8. Later, knowing that all was now completed,
and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled,
Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar
was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put
the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and
lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30When he had received
the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that,
he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 19:17-30 (NIV)
9. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold
nor hot. I wish you were either one or the
other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither
hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my
mouth. Those whom I love I rebuke and
discipline. So be earnest, and repent
10. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If
anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I
will come in and eat with him, and he with
me. To him who overcomes, I will give the
right to sit with me on my throne, just as I
overcame and sat down with my Father on his
throne.
Revelation 3:15-16, 19-21 (NIV)
11. One of the teachers of the law came and
heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had
given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of
all the commandments, which is the most
important?"
12. "The most important one," answered Jesus,
"is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the
Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind and with all your strength.'
Mark 12:28-30 (NIV)
13. "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all
faithfulness. Throw away the gods your
forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in
Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the
LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether
the gods your forefathers served beyond the
River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land
you are living. But as for me and my household,
we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:14-15 (NIV)
14. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure
hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge
all the duties of your ministry. For I am already
being poured out like a drink offering, and the time
has come for my departure. I have fought the good
fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will award to me on that day—and not only to me,
but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:5-8 (NIV)
