8. Growing portfolio in the area of
NAMA, LCDS, MRV
8
• 69 IKI projects approved in the area of LCDS, NAMAs,
MRV (= approx. € 240 m)
• and a current pipeline 2013/2014 of 26 projects
(= approx. € 85 m)
Managing risk of possible incoherence in a growing portfolio:
Enhancing coordination and collaboration
between IKI projects: identifying links and gaps
Identifying and sharing lessons and products
Making an effort for transparent communication
and alignment with priorities of partner countries

13. Future challenges & topics
13
Increasing linkages between projects and their outcomes
with the international climate negotiation process,
especially with regard to the Durban Platform:
Closing the “ambition gap” with the instruments of
LCDS, NAMAs, MRV, etc.
Support of international partnerships, like
the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV
Mobilising public and private climate finance
New call for proposals planned for spring 2014; aiming to
consolidate our portfolio and focus on key areas.
14. IKI – Enhancing Coordination &
Learning
14
Some IKI knowledge management formats:
• Building Blocks Workshop series
• ikipedia:
• Overview and access to information on projects,
topics, countries, publications, etc.
• Please share & stay updated!
• Enhanced NAMA Cooperation:
• Organizations: CCAP, ECN, Ecofys, GIZ, UNDP, and WRI;
• Structure: Working groups on Finance, MRV,
Tools & Guides, Country-wise approach, and Events.
• IKI website, portfolio overviews, mappings, etc.
• Project websites, publications, presentations, events, ...
16. Today‘s Workshop: Focus on MRV!
MRV in the IKI:
• MRV is a (growing) focus area for some IKI projects
• Important cross-cutting issue in many projects
• IKI projects contribute to the 'International Partnership
on Mitigation and MRV'
• Also: IKI monitoring and evaluation on project level and
aggregated programme level
16
17. Why do we need MRV-able mitigation
efforts?
Transparency is key – also for the development of other climate
regime building blocks
• MRV of emissions useful for: identification of ambition gap,
political pledges based on LCDS, effective mitigation action pre-2020,
etc.
• MRV of NAMAs useful for: NAMA design & monitoring,
assessment of NAMA-impact, mechanisms of results-based finance,
etc.
• MRV of support useful for: climate finance mechanisms, GCF-
readiness, etc.
17
18. Challenges of MRV – What can IKI
projects do?
• Capacity building for national MRV experts
• Supporting the analysis of emission data for baselines,
GHG emission inventories, BURs, etc.
building upon existing sectoral expertise
• Supporting institutional developments for the
establishment of national MRV systems and institutions
ensuring coherence and cooperation between agencies,
incentivise private sector involvement, etc.
• Etc. Let’s hear from you and your projects
18
19. Thank you for your
attention!
