![Standard Yield Trial of Promissing Cassava Varieties in Dong Nai, Vietnam ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],4. Results 2. Objective The research aim to continue evaluation and select top two varieties with high fresh root yield, starch content, low HCN content and early harvest ability from 98 selected cassava varieties which suit for some middle provinces, some highland provinces and some South-east provinces of South Vietnam in order to extend harvesting time for factory and increase income for small farmers. 3. Materials and Methods During the 2001-2007 period, a total of 24,073 sexual seed, new hybrid cassava elite clones from CIAT and 37,210 hybrid seeds from 9-15 cross combinations in Vietnam, 38 breeders’ varieties, 31 local farmers’ varieties, were planted at Hung Loc Center and Nong Lam University. Of these, 344 accessions of cassava were selected, maintained, characterized and evaluated for priority traits. Results of the selection, 98 cassava varieties were the best. 98 selected cassava varieties were planted in Dong Nai province in South of Vietnam. Designing 2-rows plot with 10 plants x 3 replications x 1 location, using KM 94 as checking varieties. Evaluating and selecting 30 high fresh root yield, high starch content, short-term varieties. 30 selected varieties were carried out in different environments (Dong Nai, Tay Ninh) as advanced yield trail. Designing 4-rows plot with 20 plants x 3 replications x 3 locations, using KM 94 and KM 140 as checking varieties, selected 9 varieties which show adaptation in each environment, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh province. Performing 9 selected varieties together with KM 140 and KM 94 as checking varieties in Trang Bom, Dong Nai in the year 2009. The experiment was designed 4-rows plot with 40 plants x 3 replications. 5. Conclusion Through the yield trail, the new advanced cassava varieties KM414, KM325, KM228 and KM98-5, KM397, KM297 were showed priority about FRY and SC, respectively. Therefore, they should be undertaken in other environmental areas for final selection. Table 1 . Yield trail in differently environmental areas can select suitable varieties for those areas. In present study, means and ranges of fresh root yield (FRY), starch content and other traits are presented in figure 2 and table 1. The average FRY of 11 varieties was statistically different and ranged from 27.17 (KM315) to 46.80 ton ha -1 (KM 414), while the common checks were 34.12 (KM 94) and 42.50 ton ha -1 (KM 140). Study in the starch content (SC) showed that there were 3 varieties (KM98-5, KM397, KM297) had higher SC than other varieties included checks (KM140, KM94) but not significant in statistics. Moreover their FRY was just more or less the same with KM94 while had significantly lower than KM140 and other three varieties. Other traits, plant type, stake, root shape etc. were almost the same (table 1).
