Kristen Williams Dec 2, 2022, 12:11 PM The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Module PS 101: Introduction to Patient Safety provides the structural foundation of the vital role patient safety has in a healthcare institution. High reliability was a central theme of the module. A culture of safety is when the employees share a central belief that a healthcare organization supports root cause analysis in patient care (Leape, 2021). It is a significant theme that humans have a predisposition to error, and it is vital to create systems and a safety culture to have a safe environment for patients. It is crucial to develop systems to track and analyze errors as they occur to improve future outcomes by creating safer systems. When people interact with a healthcare system, they are often at their most valuable state. The number of people dying from medical errors in 2018 was equivalent to a daily jumbo crash (Leape, 2021). Our society would not stand for one plane crash a day, yet often a place whose purpose is to heal hurts. Although humans are prone to error, it is essential to create policies, procedures, and phycological safety to increase safety when people seek healthcare. A facility that commits to embedding safety into policy and procedures and a culture of phycological safety are often referred to as a high-reliability organization (HRO). Education and empowerment of staff are essential components of building physical safety. Haley & Fritz (2019) used a framework of education and empowerment to improve the rate of urinary tract infections (UTI) in a long-term care (LTC) facility. Haley & Fritz (2019) assessed that evidenced-based signs and symptoms were not consistently utilized in obtaining urine samples to diagnose UTIs. A culture of safety examination showed improvement that could be made. Education and empowerment were done to improve the signs and symptoms used to initiate obtaining a urine sample (Haley & Fritz, 2019). Phycological safety is a vital found.

Discussion 1 Decision-Making Process With the paternalistic decision-making model, people tend to feel as though the situation they are intends to be democratic since workers are required to discuss as well as comment and their questions are responded to. Nevertheless, the decision is based on the person at the top. This form of decision-making is effective only when dealing with an individual whose freedom of choice is seriously impaired. With this model, the majority of the decisions are made with the employees’ best interests considered. The manager is provided with the power to rule from the idea that they have the ability to make decisions for the team which enhances trust as well as loyalty with the workers. However, this form of decision-making is wrong sometimes and tends to interfere with an individual’s autonomy. What do I mean by this? May exist the case in which the participants do not come to an agreement all at once, and if that’s so, the “leader” will decide for all of them attempting against the right of autonomy of those few individuals that did not agree at first. (Driever, Stiggerlbout, & Brand, 2020). Informative decision-making The informative decision-making model is mainly used when the choices that people have to make are related to the decision topic. It mainly involves assessing potential outcomes, benefits as well as risks related to every option. With informative decision-making, people tend to have a sense of self-confidence, reduced anxiety and feelings of conflict on one’s decision. However, this form of decision-making tends to require too much time. The decision to be made and the whole process it entails requires time to listen to all people and identify the most effective decision to make (El Miedany et al., 2019). Shared decision-making The shared decision-making method involves the healthcare team collaboration to decide the approach to use on the patients’ plan of care. It mainly involves selecting tests as well as treatment in regard to evidence as well as the individual’s individual preferences, beliefs as well as values. Shared decision-making mainly involves allowing evidence and patients’ preferences to be included in a consultation enhancing patient knowledge, risk perception accuracy, patient-clinician communication, and minimizing decisional conflict. However, with this type of decision-making, the majority of the patients do not wish to take part in decisions, therefore uncertainties inherent in medical care tend to be dangerous. This is not appropriate to offer information on the potential risks as well as benefits of all treatment choices. Additionally, maximizing patient involvement in decision-making may result in increased demand for inappropriate, expensive as well as dangerous procedures that might undermine the equitable allocation of healthcare resources (Driever, Stiggerlbout, & Brand, 2020). Running Head: FINDINGS USED TO MAKE PUBLIC HEALTH PLANNING AND POLICY DECISIONS 5 Findings Used to Make Public Health Planning and Policy Decisions Unit 4 - HA560 March 28, 2016 There has been increased concern among policy makers, scientists and communities that health is greatly affected by a number of factors that occur in a person’s lifetime and in multi levels. Prevention is sententious to curb occurrence of any disease within the population, and it has to come first even if access to quality healthcare services is provided. To adequately promote health and prevent diseases, certain policies and factors need to be addressed mostly factors that are related to health behaviors. Social psychology is all about understanding individuals’ behavior specifically in a social setting. Basically, social psychology focuses on factors that influence people to behave in certain ways in presence of others. The two greatest contributors in the field of social psychology were Allport (1920) and Bandura (1963). To begin with, according to Allport; he argued that the interaction of individuals with others or the presence of social groups can encourage the development of certain behaviors (Kassin, 2014). This is what Allport referred to as social facilitation, in his research he identified that an audience will facilitate the performance of an actor in a well learnt and understood task; however the performance of the same actor will decrease in performance on difficult tasks which are newly learnt, and this is contributed by social inhibition. The second contributor in the field of social psychology is Bandura (1963), in his work he developed a notion that behavior in the social world could be possibly modeled, and this is what he referred to as social learning theory. He gave his explanation with three groups of children who were watching a video where in the video an adult showed aggressiveness towards a “bobo doll” and the adults who displayed such behavior were awarded by another adult or were just punished. Therefore Bandura found that children who saw the adult being rewarded were found to be more likely to imitate that adult’s behavior. Certain theories plays important roles in health assessment, and a theory is defined as a collection of concepts in specific area of concern or interest in the world that need explanations, intervening and prediction. Theories need to be backed up with evidence that tend to explain why things will happen in relation to current situations, and followed with some actions to turn situations in certain desirable ways. Health assessment can be defined as a plan of care that recognizes specific person’s health needs and how such needs will be addressed by healthcare system or any other health institutions (Jarvis, 2008).
