Presentation of the Government of Vietnam to the First Global Conference on Reporting for Results-based REDD+, January 2018, Milan, Italy. Reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and related forest conservation.
2. STATUS OF REDD+ ACTION IN VIET NAM
❖Since 2009, Vietnam has participated in REDD+
initiatives with 44 REDD+ projects, about US$ 84
millions in supporting awareness raising, capacity
building and pilot activities, models and
preparedness for REDD+ implementation in
Vietnam.
❖17 PRAP approved to 2020, 12 provinces setup
steering committees for REDD+.

3. ❖ National REDD+ Action Program approved June 2012
(Decision 799/TT) and replaced in April 2017 (Decision
419/TTg).
❖ Established the Forest Reference Emission Levels/Forest
Reference Levels (FREL/FRL) submitted to UNFCCC
Secretariat in January 2016 and completed technical review in
April 2017.
❖ Developing a National Forest Monitoring System and a
Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) System.
❖ Developing Safeguard Information System (SIS) and Summary
of Information (SoI) expected to be operational in early 2018.

and large wood business models.
2.2 Evaluate and replicate sustainable models for natural
forests enhancement, protection and conservation.

6. 3. Achieve full REDD+ readiness and engage in step-wise
improvements
3.1 Finalize and upgrade the core REDD+ instruments, in
accordance with step-wise principle, and in compliance with
UNFCCC’s provisions.
3.2 Set up and implement financial management mechanisms
for REDD+.
3.3 Strengthen international and regional cooperation to
promote REDD+ and mitigate risks of displacement.
3.4 Effectively coordinate, backstop, communicate, build
capacities and monitor NRAP implementation.

7. NRAP Specific Objectives contributes to INDC for
the period 2021 - 2030:
Stabilize the natural forest area by 2030 at, at least, the
same level as 2020 (14.4 million hectares), and
increase forest cover up to 43% of national territory,
contributing to realize the national target of reducing
total greenhouse gas emissions by 8% by 2030
compared with business as usual (BAU) scenario as
committed in the Paris Agreement on climate change.
This contribution may increase to 25% if receiving
international support.
